Steering wheel position and dashboard config

Hi, I’m a new Lucid air Touring owner. I have an issue with my current steering wheel position setting. In this setting, if I turn on the adaptive cruise control, I can’t see the top part of the dashboard. Is there anyway I can change the dashboard display configuration? This truly pisces me off. I can’t see my current speed in this position.

Have you tried adjusting either the steering wheel and the seat? We are all shaped differently but it is almost always possible to find a position that works adjusting these two features. I am short so I make adjustments that let me see through the steering wheel; a buddy of mine is 6'11" and he looks over the steering wheel.

This felt like a massive oversight on Lucid's part. It's like they only had one person sit in the car before settling on a position for the instrument display. "Well, he can see the screen. We're all done here."

I'm about 5'10". With a comfortable configuration, the top of the wheel completely obstructs the "Charge - Power" text, as well as the speed readout while in Adaptive Cruise or DriveAssist.

Lower the seat? Now we need to lower the steering wheel.
Raise the steering wheel? Now we need to raise the seat.

The only solution was to place the display closer to the steering column, and that opportunity came and went. I actually noticed this flaw during my test drive, but wrote it off as something I could easily resolve once I own the car and get a chance to play with the seat/wheel adjustments at my leisure.

What's comical about the whole thing is you can Google "Lucid Air Gauge" (for example), and nearly every single photo is taken from just above the airbag cover... I wonder why.

This one may be my favorite. I assume it's from a prototype or perhaps the cluster was arranged this way in the 2022 models at one time? The camera is below where anyone's shoulders would be, and the gear indicator is still obfuscated by the steering wheel. So they relocated this element to the bottom of the display, else no one would know which damn direction the car was going to go when they hit the accelerator.

Recently, the Driver Monitoring Unavailable is almost always displayed. Adjusting steering wheel does not resolve.

Same here. I’m one of those who what the steering wheel on my lap. I also wish the steering wheel could reach closer to me.

Yeah, it’s something. I immediately noticed when I just got my new Pure. They’ve got all the school tech in the screens, including the cameras from when you change lanes, but it’s basically blocked in my seating position. If only I could lower the seat a little further, but I’m at the max. Still doesn’t make a great car any worse

I was worried it was just me… This is crazy and unsafe. Lucid can easily reconfigure the digital dashboard and make it more usable. I too can’t see the lane change side cameras and of course speedometer, when adoptive cruise control is on!
The other solution would be a yoke type steering wheel. I admit I don’t like yoke type wheels but then we could see the whole front dashboard.

The massive dash screen seems like more of a design over fu action issue, good for marketing wow factor but impractical due to the steering wheel getting in the way no matter how you adjust it and the seat u less you want the wheel pointing at the root with the seat on the floor…
It should have been made slightly smaller, positioned lower, perhaps even attached to the column, or all of the above.
Given what little information they show on the cluster it’s laughable that it’s not all visible.

I can’t agree more. The more I drive this car the more disappointed I’m with Lucid UI, specifically when this can be reconfigured so easily.

I’m a very picky person and I was able to configure the wheel and seat so I see nearly everything (I’m 5’9”). There are a lot of other “knits” that I would like see improved, but I’m actually okay with this.

New owner here, in the same position: I can adjust the steering wheel to either be in a comfortable position, or to see the top of the screen, but not both.

Ideally, I would be able to adjust the display to fit in the visible area, for example make everything smaller and keep at the bottom.

If you pay attention there is a giant deadspot between the top of the airbag and bottom of the screen. Why would they mount the screen so high? I am literally not using DDP as I cannot see the speed and info on the top of the screen. At least keep the speedo in the bottom of the screen. Maybe someone in the aftermarket will come up with a screen reposition adapter where you can move the whole screen lower.

If they mounted it lower, other people would be complaining that it's too low. You can't please everyone. That's why I always drive a car before deciding to buy it.

Though they certainly could have helped the issue by having a HUD.

True, however, there is too much space between the bottom of the screen and top of airbag, unless you want to drive the Lucid like a bus. I have driven 100s of cars and this is the first one I see having this ergonomic issue. Not a deal breaker, but they need to at least let you customize the data on the glass cockpit or not move the speedo higher when HA is engaged.

took me about 3 weeks of fiddling to get the seat and steering wheel dialed in (14 way seats). now all is good .. a tiny bit of obstruction but almost none. actually I still have one adjustment to make to the seat but it's only a tiny bit off from my preset and I don't think the computer recognizes it as different than the preset, so I'd need to make a bigger change, store it, then change back to what I want to save. so, overall getting the right fit is doable just takes some effort is what I found. Of course everyone's body is different so finding fit is a very personal thing.

I am also 5’9” and it’s the most comfortable car I’ve driven.

I had to do this originally too. This is annoying, but at least it’s a one-time thing.

Of course everyone's body is different so finding fit is a very personal thing.

I’d call customer care, that isn’t the norm. I haven’t seen that warning for a long long time. Unless I put my sunglasses case in front of the sensor.

Also, check your driving position. Could also be that your face is obscured by the top of the steering wheel.

I agree with @borski its the most comfortable car I’ve driven in.

I think they were going for that floating look. But agreed, its not quite right on the ergonomics with the wheel to be able to see all of it.
