Hey all,

My Lucid Air (around 20,000 km) has a peeling spot on the top part of the steering wheel looks like the leather is bubbling.
Car’s always been parked in the garage, no harsh cleaners used

Anyone else had this happen? Did you get it fixed or replaced under warranty? Any advice?

Sure looks like an obvious defect. I cannot image a fix. Needs to be replaced. And most definitely should be warranty.

I know Lucid has replaced many many steering wheels. I saw a pile of old one stacked up at the SC. Tbh, I think most replacement is due to electronics.

Thanks for the reply, Sounds like it’s a known issue.

I’ve reached out to customer service and will update once I hear back.
Appreciate it!

Your steering wheel leather looks terrible, mine looks like nappa leather, smooth and matte

Do you have the Nappa leather or the Purluxe interior?

I've never seen leather do anything like this before, but the Purluxe is a 2-layer material. Could this be the top layer detaching and stretching?

I don’t think it’s real leather to be honest it doesn’t feel like it.
Could very well be what you said, that the top layer of Purluxe separating.
I have seen the same issue in tesla models
Appreciate your reply

Mostly creaks, I imagine.

and yeah this should be warrantied

A lot of steering wheels had to be replaced due to the silver buttons inside the scrolling buttons on the wheels failing. Those were integral to the steering wheel, and the whole wheel had to go when they failed.

A few*

But otherwise yeah. I’m still on my second steering wheel (due to creaks) but have never had a button fall off 🤷‍♂️

Have seen it has happened though!

I get a lot of creaking, are they still replacing them for that?

Call customer care, they handle it quickly. Normally with a mobile service visit. They don't need to replace the whole steering wheel anymore, just insert some spacers. Quick and painless.

Based on the upper right-hand of the picture, I think OP has the PurLux interior. I think the bubbling probably comes from hand lotion or another solvent that OP might be wearing. Seem to recall a friend having this problem in her Volkswagen. Hopefully it's a warranty item, please let us know how it goes @Moon .
