Steering wheel creaking

I'm not that lucky, so I can only imagine these issues are the exception, not the norm, at least on post-2022 cars.
I don’t think this is the case because mine is a 2023 built in October with a 2024 steering wheel on it now.

To me it almost seems like the people with older cars don’t have the fit/finish issues like the newer cars. More complaints I read are from late ‘23 owners.

Anyway, here’s the part number for my “new” wheel that still creaks.
P11-DA00AP-08

Anyone who got a replacement that doesn’t squeak like @joec know what part number you got? Should be in your service invoice

My 4th wheel just developed a slight creak. Just a month or two in. Between this and the parcel shelf I’m kinda losing it 😭😅

Service dept continues to offer replacements? How’d you convince them to give you 4??

My appointment to have my steering wheel worked on today was canceled at the last minute. This is what I was told by the mobile service tech. I'm pretty frustrated and upset at this point. This is not acceptable for a car at this or really any price point.

"Unfortunately I was informed that due to the materials used to make the steering wheels we will not fix it by replacement. It's a characteristic of those reclaimed materials and the plastic used. I can not justify the replacement for that reason..."

Wow I had mine replaced with no questions asked. The mobile tech replaced the wheel and the new one has not made any sounds since then. Should definitely call Lucid Care and push for them to rectify the issue.

The problem is this would be my 4th steering wheel, so I can understand the hesitancy to continue replacing it, seeing as it hasn't solved the issue for me. I'll be pushing back to CC to see what else can be done.

Ah didn’t realize this would be your 4th steering wheel. I just pulled up my old service invoice and the mobile tech had stated that the creaking was coming internally from the wheel. They replaced it with this part #: P11-DA00AP-08.

I know this isn't a fix, but our GT-P creaks. If you give a firm pull, it quiets down. The rubbing that is occuring seems to be alleviated as a result.

Anyone know if you can install the felt yourself? I would like to experiment with solutions and share the results.

Yea I’m convinced they all have the issue. Those saying they don’t have it probably just aren’t bothered by it. My loaner has it pretty bad too

I assure you my steering wheel is smooth and silent. I have a 2023 Touring, same as you I think. I'll record it if you'd like, if there's some particular motion that usually triggers it.

There are at least 2 different creaking issues.

1) The plastic bits above/below/behind the wheel are rubbing against each other and causing some creaking. This can be fixed by attaching felt in between. This can be tested by torquing the wheel by pushing or pulling the sides and you will hear the creaks.
2) There is plastic within the steering wheel assembly which is rubbing/grating against each other. This is remedied by a whole replacement of the wheel assembly itself.

Over 23k miles and I'm still on my original wheel without a creak. The one loaner I had definitely had a creak, so I know what it sounds like, and mine definitely has never had it.

Knock on wood, I have had no creaks or pops since my wheel was replaced two weeks ago. Somehow the steering feel seemed improved also. I know that last part is all in my head, but it's illustrative of how distracting the wheel noises had become.

I was doing a test ride with a tech to point out a noise (unrelated to the steering wheel) last week and he noticed the creak and just said "I'll fix that real quick before you get your car back", and he did. I never even complained about it since it didn't happen often. Great service as always!

I wrote a letter to customer care about my steering wheel experience. No response. They simply forwarded it over to the local SC which then gave me a call to bring it in for service for the 7th time for the same issue. I said that unless there is new information/fix I am not wasting my (or their) time/resources again. I'm on my 4th wheel and have had all the felt stuff done already 3 times.
Its very unfortunate that my entire experience with this vehicle has been so completely tainted by these poor quality wheels.

mine was quiet for a few weeks after replacement, but then it came back. Once the plastic wears in a bit, they start squeaking again.

Mine has been replaced for about 2 months and it feels solid and silent.

@Shane_SLC and I have the exact same wheel replacement part number and it definitely creaks.

Update from Service team after they replaced my wheel and my car went back into service center for some other things:

"We looked into the steering wheel and it looks like it already had the replacement and a rework on the new steering wheel so we have performed all of the repairs available to us currently. I am hearing that an updated steering wheel is in the works but I do not have information on when that will be available quite yet."
