Software version 3.3.2

Soooo....the first day of this update was without fault. Since then tho, I have experienced every single bug previously noted in here including just having my fob not recognized (keycard worked and I did the battery remove and reset in the fob and then it started working fine). If it weren't for this forum and folks reporting out and telling of the workarounds....I think a great number of us would be about done with this car. Lucid, I know you are working hard, but you guys HAVE to find a way to step it up with this software. I was actually not having any issues in the last update and this one now is considerably worse. Please do better. We all want you to succeed and this vehicle to be as magnificent as it could be. Someone mentioned next version may be inbound soon, I hope you have QC's this software up and down. If not, hold and keep working it. Don't make it worse....

100% agree re: the forum. I would be totally stuck without all the folks on this forum and the input and solutions and workarounds that are shared here.

I appreciate you posting this. The update just appeared in my Lucid this morning and I was going to install it tonight. I think I'll wait. I've had my share of software issues with my Air, and its finally been working satisfactorily. I don't want to take a big step backwards.

Apparently you and I are in the same update batch because I also just was finally offered (and accepted) the update.

I think I’ve seen all of the issues people are talking about already so we’ll see if this makes it better or worse. Plus if 3.3.3 is really coming out soon as mentioned in another thread I’d rather be up to date prior to accepting that, even though I know in theory it shouldn’t matter.

While I understand the desire, you won’t be able to skip it regardless. In order to get the later updates, you’ll have to install the intermittent ones. There is no “cumulative” update process, fwiw.

You won’t be able to install 3.3.3 (or whatever comes next) without first installing this.

Oh interesting, I wasn’t going to tempt fate with anything but the most common upgrade path but good to know I don’t have a choice anyway.

I am fine if they need to wait on 3.3.3. It felt like 3.3.2 came very quickly - which I appreciated at first. But it didn’t markedly improve a whole lot and brought the black screen issue.

If they need time to make sure 3.3.3 really addresses bugs, I am happy to live with the bugs I have now versus have new ones move in. Early adopting requires incredible patience and a willingness - rather, an eagerness - to accept huge leaps forward in return for incredibly annoying and frustrating leaps backwards.

has anyone heard about when we might get a 3.3.3? I have been stranded several times now and am seriously wondering if I made a good choice with getting the GDE... at this price point its nuts that they are having these issues.. minor bugs, missing features, early adopter stuff I am fine with.. but stranded car.. thats a bid no-no on a 140k car.

It won’t strand you. There is an issue with some Gravities with the fobs due to possibly a center console issue or a software issue; it has been improved by the latest update, and will continue to improve further.

With that said, there is a quick workaround now, which is: if it happens, simply get out, lock the car, remove the battery from the fob, wait 30 seconds, put it back in while holding the unlock button, and unlock the car. That has fixed the issue every time.

So it won’t strand you. That doesn’t mean it’s not an issue, but it won’t strand you.

I kinda doubt I would have even bought my Gravity without this forum.

The whole "knowing more than the Lucid SA" is because of this forum. Not just the knowledge here, but also the historical experiences of Air owners and the continued support of one another let me know, I won't be totally on my own if something goes south.

Sadly, you are correct. I'm particularly sensitive to it after having my Air out of service, sitting in the Lucid Service Center for a cumulative 30+ days due to software issues that they were struggling to solve a couple of months ago. I live in the Bay Area, so Lucid brought in their engineers to try and troubleshoot the car, not just the local techs. Ultimately, we had to wait for a new software upgrade to address the issues, which included Apple Car Play crashing, the entertainment center and Nav system crashing, and all voice commands including for Siri and Lucid failing to work. I literally couldn't make or receive calls without putting my hands on the phone, which is illegal in CA. So... I lived with a Lucid loaner for about 30 days until the matter was resolved. It was a painful experience, but once I escalated the matter within Lucid, they stepped up and did their best to soften the pain of a brand new car failing to operate correctly.

When 3.3.3 is released, if I choose to wait awhile to install and then another update (like 3.3.4) is released, will both uninstalled updates show in my notifications until I decide to install the first, followed by the second?

I vaguely recall a member buying a used Air that hadn't had a significant update installed and it resulted in them needing a new TCU.

Will multiple updates show in notifications until they are installed in sequential order?

Java simply has different categories of memory leaks. Circular references is the most common A references B references C references A. Those will stick around in memory.

Also, while Java is relatively good with cleaning up highly transient garbage, it can fall down in the deeper generation garbage.

In Java-based games, we tend to force GC once per frame to minimize hitching due to longer GC passes. That only works to some extent, but it helps.

In data centers, it's somewhat common to simply restart servers on a scheduled basis, because 4th gen GC, when triggered, can take longer than a reboot. This has taken entire services offline as all the servers behind a load balancer would tend to hit the deep GC at similar times. As servers go offline, the traffic is shed to other servers, causing them to reach deep GC sooner, and so on into cascade failure.

Every language can leak memory. Every language can have multithreading issues.
Now you're in my area of expertise: I've invented Java garbage collectors, and have a chapter in the standard academic text on the subject about my work. A lot of what you're describing is a result of people not really understanding why different garbage collectors exist, and/or not being willing to be disciplined about accepting the performance guarantees (or lack thereof) offered by different collector implementations. The garbage collectors in "off the shelf" Java from Sun (and then Oracle) were always designed to offer best case performance most of the time, at the expense of seriously degraded performance a small fraction of the time. There are some workloads where that makes sense, but many many consumers of Java respond by just trying to completely avoid ever doing a "4th gen" collection cycle. I know a consultant whose entire business is advising companies on the GC parameters to use to avoid running that sort of cycle until a nightly/weekly server restart occurs. There are other collectors that offer different tradeoffs. For example, there are non-compacting collectors designed for embedded and real time applications.

Unfortunately market pressures have tended to reward breadth of features above reliability and performance, and so we're now ~3 decades into a dramatic reduction of software engineers who have expertise in traditional embedded/real-time software, as the field has generally found that inconsistent performance is good enough most of the time.

I’ve only had my car back for a few hours. But for each drive, I’ve had a black screen (still drivable but only see speedometer). I started experimenting and I noticed if I wait 30 seconds and open the door, the screens all instantly came on. A reset also fixed it once but that takes awhile.

Same issue like mine. Seems a fairly decent bug on 3.3.2. Can’t wait for fixes and upgrades.

Fixed plus Apple Car key and CarPlay will solve a bunch of concerns.

Most manufacturers do sequential since that is a predictable route. so you should see 3.3.3 and 3.3.4 etc.

Every now and then there’s a major release (say jumping from 3.* to a 4.* and that will require a min 3.x.x to upgrade from. That’s how it’s on Teslas.

Totally agree! In real time/embedded scenarios, I much prefer well-written, disciplined C++. All allocation (if any) performed at initialization. No heap churn.

Back in my J2ME and Android game development days, we would minimize garbage generation, but it was extremely difficult to do 100%. We would run GC every frame to keep the time as short as possible.

I just updated and joined this forum within minutes (after stalking you all for the last couple weeks to see how other early Gravity owners are faring) and am now a little more concerned, lol.

I absolutely love this vehicle, but I had every access issue described finally pop up today. I've had a couple key fob detected glitches that led to intense frustration and a couple late arrivals to work before, but they always self resolved or resetting by battery worked. Today I had it refuse to leave the garage because it wouldn't detect the fob and although it would unlock fine with the card, it wouldn't start with it. That self resolved after a few minutes but I never leave *that* early for work and got rid of my previous vehicle last week, so that wasn't ideal. Then at lunch the fob was dead again, but keycard unlocked it. Then the screens simply would not turn on. I could use climate in the app and the car was awake/communicating, but I could not start the vehicle/drive it and the screens would not wake up. I had limited time so I just cooled off in the vehicle and doom-scrolled, but I was in it 30 minutes and it still didn't wake up/allow it to drive. Locked it by card and crossed my fingers. Finished out the day and thankfully keycard worked fine, things lit up, and made it home without incident. Reset the fob just now and it's alive again and seemingly fine, but I also just installed 3.3.2 (I already had working live view since delivery but didn't have .2 until today) sooooo we'll see.
