Programming Homelink on a Gravity

The only “range” problem I’m having with my otherwise phenomenal 4 week-old Lucid Gravity is Homelink range. To get the opener to work, I’ve got to set the car DIRECTLY in front of the garage door, within about 10’. You can imagine what a challenge this poses to those of us who normally back into the garage. Maybe the car’s transmitter is in a weird position. I’ve never had this kind of “range” problem with any other car, and there have been quite a few. Is it just me and this car??
For me the Gravity behaves like every car I had, sometimes I need to hit the button several times that the gate actually opens. On my Porsche I need to press it 3 times .. on the 3rd it opens, no freaking idea why. But yeah I have a gate and not a garage door and its like 30ft behind the car (front facing away from it), so I know its not ideal .... it works but yeah need to press several times. Maybe it increases power? no clue.

Thanks, NerviG. I suspect the Gravity’s transmitter is positioned down real low but I carry a garage door clicker in the hatch just in case.

Has anyone set more than 3 programmable homelink connections?
Ask Lucid customer service, they dont know.
Apparently it is 15, but I can't even get my garage to work as of yet!
Yes. I have 8 programmed: 6 garages and 2 gates. If you are not concerned about GPS location, then the gates can be programmed at home because they don't need interaction with the opener. You'll need to touch on the HomeLink menu and scroll through to find the gate when you arrive in front of it, however.

All my garages, except one, were HomeLink/MyQ compatible and I didn't need to fiddle with the learn button - they have what is called HomeLink "D-Mode" (Direct Programming Mode). The other garage had an "ancient" garage door opener and I had to push the learn button as part of the programming process.

As a side note, it would be nice if Lucid let you reset the GPS location. without having to reprogram the HomeLink entry. Tesla lets you do that and it's convenient for something like the gate GPS location when you program the gate at a different location. This helps for multiple garages at the same location, so you can move the car exactly where you want the GPS popup to appear.

Unfortunately this approach hasn't worked on my genie homelink. Whether I hold it under the driver or the passenger side, I get a honk and lights but neither results in a functioning homelink. Dlink connecting also doesn't work

I just programmed my newish Genie opener. If your Genie is newer than 10 years old or so, after you get the light flash/horn honk, you will then have to hit the learn button on the opener itself, then follow Homelink dash prompts (I think mine asked me to hit the onscreen button a couple times and on the third time, my garage door closed.). Also, with my Genie, you have to hold the learn button for 5+ seconds until a little blue light starts to flash.

Fwiw, if you install a ratgdo or similar tool, it can actually control the learn button (and rolling codes and everything else).

So I just sat in my car and hit learn in Home Assistant and chuckled at how this used to require a ladder and running back into the car to do it within 30 seconds or it expired, lol.

Everyone should get a ratgdo (or similar) and take the 10 minutes to install it. It’s such a quality of life improvement.

Tried this again, no dice. Have an appointment in the 2nd with mobile service to see what can be done

I have a Tailwind that works great for auto close on leaving and auto open on return. Only deal is that it is still only about 95% reliable. Upon leaving, the auto close does not activate until I am a couple hundred feet from house and out of sight of garage. I am not willing to rely on Tailwind to close my door without having visual verification it is closing. So I just hit the Homelink close button for peace of mind. Fortunately, in my limited use of Homelink in the 5 days of my Gravity ownership, it has popped up 100% of time while backing out of garage.

I've never used Tailwind, but with Home Assistant you can control the automation more directly, since Home Assistant also integrates with the Lucid API.

But closing it yourself is obviously more reliable. :)

The instructions for programming Homelink on your Gravity contain an error.

Here is what comes up on the screen in your car when trying to program Homelink:

View attachment 33800

Note that it instructs you to hold your remote under the driver-side headlight. In fact, you have to hold your remote under the passenger-side headlight. I found this out today when the mobile tech came today after I had been unable to get Homelink programmed by following these instructions. I was sitting in the car when he went straight to the passenger side with the remote. I showed him what was on the screen in the car, and he said he had never seen that. He is going to let Lucid know.

Oddly enough, I was able to get the horn to sound and the headlights to flash by holding the remote in the location illustrated, but the programming would not take. Although I tried several times by moving the remote around that area, it did not occur to me to try the other side of the car.
Same issue with me. Walked away and will try again later

I was having a hard time getting it to work until I remembered about this thread... Followed the suggestions and it worked right away. Fresh remote batteries, aim it under the L and keep it close to the car.

none of these approaches work for me. tried everything.
Mine must have a transmitter issue. It can receive signal but will not transmit. Service is looking into it

It took me over an hour to program Homelink. The car would not reliably pick up the signal from the remote. Yes, I pointed the remote (with brand new batteries) at the driver’s side bumper as per instructions. After many tries in various positions, including moving the car, pointing the remote at different parts of the bumper, and walking back and forth with the remote, the car finally registered the signal (honk and flashing headlights).

On the times it detected the signal, detection was within 5 seconds. On the times it didn’t, I kept the remote button pressed the full 30 seconds before giving up, just in case it really does take that long to detect and sync to the signal.

Be sure to hit the learn button on your garage opener as per the (optional) instructions once the remote signal has been received. I didn’t do it the first time and had to go through trying to get the Gravity to detect the remote signal a second time. I think there is a software glitch with the Gravity not actually searching for the signal from the remote - sometimes it activates, most of the time it doesn’t.

The good news is that Homelink works once programmed. 80% of the time it activates on 1st press. 20% of the time it takes multiple presses.

did this yesterday as well, only worked for me on the passenger side, never on the driver's. and make sure to continue the opener button press until the light flashes too, the honk isn't enough.

while it's programmed, it seems to only work sporadically and I only occasionaly get the little indictor that the signal is being sent to the opener. like other things with this car, whatever their loop is for capturing button presses, it needs some polish. :)

Update here: brought the vehicle in for service. They allegedly replaced the homelink unit and allegedly said it was functional in their tests. Still having the same issue at home. I say allegedly because the vehicle was also being serviced for a rear washer malfunction and they have me the car back without having tested it- it was still malfunctioning-luckily they were able to fix the issue in a few moments after properly fastening the fluid line. So I'm wary of their"testing" at the moment.

Update here. My genie opener had a full memory so I had to wipe it and re-pair all remotes. Apparently my genie could only pair with up to 7 remotes.

It worked for me on the driver's side. However, after a couple of failures, what got it work was a new set of batteries in the garage remote. Maybe give that a shot, in addition to trying both sides.
i think age/strength of garage-remote battery can account for many of the difficulties cited here. i got homelink programmed from driver’s side, but my remote had fresh batteries.

In no way pointing fingers at anyone, it's easy to see how many things are erroneously blamed on Gravity's software by frustrated new owners.

I had to change the battery on my remote, though it was otherwise working fine. 3.0V coin cell out, new 3.28V coin cell in.

The surprising thing here was that 3 technicians at my house couldn't figure it out. I stumbled on a site that described troubleshooting on a Volvo with genie. I also like to think I'm not a new owner necessarily as I had the air for two years- but I can only imagine someone new to the lucid ecosystem.
