Out of Spec Kyle - A.M.A. on Lucid Gravity

Should have asked them about adapters because there's no official automaker supported 1,000V CCS -> NACS adapter yet (the ones Tesla use are only 500V max) that would allow this vehicle to interface on public CCS chargers yet... they also don't have supercharger access so how should a Gravity owner DCFC and stay in compliance of automaker recommendations? Not sure...
This is what I was curious about. I was hoping they would have made some announcement that they were getting their Supercharger agreement in place in time for the launch. But who knows maybe they are waiting for it to really go through, before they announce anything. We know how Tesla is with timelines...

It's not like there's a TON of room in the 3rd row but I can fit comfortably - I can in Kia EV9 as well. Really need to re-do our EV SUV comparisons next year with so many new ones coming on the market around now

It didn't sound like any major announcements other than the expected AC bidirectional up to 80A AC through NACS as well as V2V through RangeXChange

How would you compare the second row space of the EV9 to the Gravity? And the third row?

Also, in general, what did you like more about the Gravity versus the EV9 (and vice versa)?

Hey Kyle! been following your videos and watched the Gravity review, do you know what the ground clearance and how high/low the active suspension can adjust? Curious to see how the Gravity will do in the Colorado mountains and maybe deep snow.

That's a little like comparing a Grand Highlander to an Escalade isnt it? :P

Considering their prices (for the upper end EV9) and the comparable interior features (in some cases, even more), not really! Material-wise (and "traditional luxury"-wise), the Gravity is likely better, though.

No questions. Love your work, and will watch all of your Gravity content!
+1 from my end too. Love your work @outofspeckyle and your podcasts are my long drive companions. Keep up the great work and continue influencing Lucid and others to make their products better!

@outofspeckyle kyle, so cool to have you in the community. Huge fan of your work, you've brought a ton of important knowledge to myself and many others. So first, thanks!

Next, what would you say you were most impressed by in terms of driving dynamic? Also, what was your sense of software? I share others in a bit of hope and hesitancy on what's possible and what's already there from a current Air owner.

I was just about to ask this question. The Tesla CCS Combo 1 adapter spec says it supports up to 250 kw, but I assume this is limited to 500A and therefore 500V. I guess that is why they say it does not support Cybertruck, either?
If you could get any info out of Lucid on when Gravity will be able to use NACS superchargers, that would be great. The road trip fast-charging picture is still pretty clouded. Thanks.

I loved your video 👍 Just about to dig into the companion podcast...

It is not the current that is the issue, it is the 500V rating. High voltage components have something called a creepage spec that requires the distance between high voltage connections is sufficient to make sure that the air along the surface cannot arc due to the high electric field. The Tesla to CCS1 adapters are rated for 500V and hence will not work for Gravity's 924V architecture. Without a 1000V J3400 to CCS1 adapter, DC fast charging Gravity will be impossible until the Tesla network is open to Lucid.

Ride and handling…you can tell Korean cars suck in that aspect.

I am sure there is a physics reason that I do not yet understand, but can’t the Wunderbox be bypassed (even on Air) with an appropriately designed NACS to CCS adapter thereby allowing the Air to access the Supercharger network at greater than 50 kW?

Nope but you know I’ll be trying ASAP - really hoping software / ADAS is dialed
It’s weird because other videos that were posted after the embargo lift today specifically show the software being used. Were you early in the process?

Handling, I completely agree with (in comparison to the Gravity), but ride? It absolutely does not "suck." You want to see a ride that sucks, get in a Model Y!

The issue with the Tesla SC network is that it can only output 500V and the battery in the Air is ~700V-900V. Hence, the DC voltage most be increased to charge the Air's battery. The DC to DC up-conversion is done by the Wunderbox and the up-conversion power is limited to 50kW.

It looked to me like there were a few pre-production vehicles being tested at the same time by various media outlets, it seemed to me the one @outofspeckyle was in was mostly finalized in terms of the driving, but others may have been later pre-production vehicles with more features enabled? I might be wrong.

I wish they would have only previewed cars closer to production. They’ve already done previews with some media outlets. It seems shortsighted to try release cars for review without working software even if Kyle was somewhat understanding. At least they could have shown him the car with the software stack closer to completion.
