Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Grand Touring

Just got my phone call - looks like with the increased volume the process is a little fluid. My DM didnt call, but someone out of Chicago to let me know my car just completed assembly and is on its way there for PDI. They said my VIN was assigned a couple of days ago and he would send me an email shortly. He is expecting I should be able to pick up my car sometime late next week at the Tysons Corner location in Virginia. VERY EXCITED!

The car unlocks every time, with the fob. If the fob battery is dead (happens, rarely!) it unlocks if you hold it on the pillar and push in the handle. Or just change the CR2032 battery. Mobile key is iffy for now, so just use the fob.

Sound system is incredible, as evidenced by multiple audio engineers (pro and amateur) on these forums and elsewhere. I had exactly one time where the bass cut out, many versions ago, and a reboot fixed it.



It works. It will get better. The software is the worst part, agreed. But unlocking is not an issue for the majority of owners, if they use the fob.



This is inaccurate; it is selection bias. I had very minor fit and finish issues because it was the 241st car ever produced, but I’m quite close with service and the *vast* majority of owners have had no physical issues. When they have, it’s a random scratch here or there which is quickly addressed. The “major physical issues” are quite rare, actually.

Software? Sure. If the software were where it was when I got the car in January 2022, I’d say maybe hold off. As it is now it’s *way* better and improving constantly.

People come here to gripe and complain, and look for solutions. It is rare that someone simply posts how much they love the car, because most people feel much more compelled to share when something has gone wrong. The same phenomenon often exists in online reviews, which is why business will explicitly hire people to respond to reviews hoping to change them from negative to positive, and incentivize people to leave positive ones (with free meals, etc.). You have to take that into account when reading these forums.

Moreover, people tend to “dump” their issues on every forum thread, related or unrelated, and some do so from multiple accounts (still no idea why) which makes it seem even *more* negative and like “everyone is having these issues.” And people *exclusively* dump negative issues; even if someone does post about how much they love the car, they certainly don’t do it on every single thread.

Also, angry people tend to lean toward assuming malice rather than mistake. “Lucid clearly doesn’t care” vs “Lucid clearly is *overwhelmed* by interest and is still staffing up.” The latter isn’t an excuse, but the former isn’t accurate.

@Joe @hydbob maybe we could have a monthly poll posted that gets emailed to all the forum users and asks the general questions of overall happiness with the car? Similar to an NPS score? That might help address some of the otherwise overwhelming bias toward negative issues here?

Thanks! I’m trying to be as objective as possible and I know I’m sampling from a very biased and flawed dataset. Only Lucid would know the true state of things.
I guess that’s one downside of me being excited enough to be watching this forum for months :)

I’m definitely not letting the loudest voices dictate how I perceive things(it goes both ways actually).
I think it’s just those few critical functions that I expect to be flawless. Hearing that it’s nearly 100% reliable with the fob is definitely reassuring. The silence on some issues is just not reassuring though. I wonder if owners are hearing back from Lucid but are not at liberty to share.

The plan right now is to make a decision after my second test drive tomorrow. I’ll report back after we do it.
Current plan is to form a new opinion on(Importance in braces):
1. New Nav (Low)
2. General state of software (High)
3. AC function/heat from the windshield (Low - to decide if we need to setup a tint appt)
4. Sound system (High)
5. Luggage capacity (Low - We’re gonna carry some luggage and see what it can fit)
6. Profile switching (Med)
7. Random fit and finish things from the forum delivery checklist (Med)

It’s really just going to come down to the car not having a hiccup during a 1.5 hour test drive.
I’m super excited and generally very lenient towards new tech. Thanks to all the owners to try and keep the story straight.

No. They said if I want it Friday, it's in Short Hills, NJ. If I wanted to wait potentially a week or two, I could have had home delivery.

On luggage capacity, I fit one full size carryon and a duffel in the frunk, along with some random items, and 2-3 checked bags plus another carryon or two in the trunk. (Family was visiting)

They were amazed their rented SUV only needed to fit one checked bag and a duffel (or something similar) lol - the vast majority of their 6-person luggage fit in the Lucid, and they weren’t traveling light. 🤷‍♂️

I was contacted by the DA on 8/5, asked him to place me on the “list” in case any car with my configuration (regardless of exterior color) became available. The DA contacted me 9/20 regarding the availability of my exact configuration and desired color. Completed all the paperwork and payment today. Pickup scheduled for Tysons on Saturday.

Interesting that I ordered that exact same config on 5/19 yet am still waiting. I think this gives us some insight as to how they may be prioritizing deliveries… you ordered after the price increase. Perhaps they are prioritizing $154K orders over $139K orders to maximize revenue.

It's been established that Lucid will not assign a cancelled order to someone where their car has started production. @FP1 got a VIN when Lucid was assigning VINs to April/May confirmations. Your car is close to getting a VIN. FP1 probably got a cancellation that couldn't go to you since your car already started production. I think that anytime we see someone jump the line months ahead of where most VIN assignments are taking place, we can assume that was a cancellation going to someone whose car has not started production.
 
It may have been a last minute cancellation. I had to decide whether to take it quickly after receiving the call from the DA. The car was on its way to or already at Goose Island.
 
Suuuurre…Cosmos Silvers start delivery 2.5 weeks after I take delivery of my alternative color, Stellar White. Please…someone tell me the paint color and the platinum finish roof margins don’t quite match…. 🥲
