Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Grand Touring

There was a video interview with Rawlinson where he stated the software wasn't where it should be and he promised it would be vastly better by year end. We'll see. He also didn't make specific statements about what improvements, just that Lucid was aware of it being a weak point and it was an area of emphasis.
Where is the video as I’d like to see it? If he did this, would it have been so difficult to also send an email to owners Everyone you talk to within Lucid openly admits the software is a problem but this is the first I’ve heard of Peter actually acknowledging it publically.

The only thing I’ve seen him say is about the priority of CarPlay and how many software updates they pushed out to owners in the last earnings call.

Another 2021 confirmation done!

Once they get through those, things should pick up. As for reds, they were the last DEcolors produced and the first GTs. They went through red batch until they got way down the list. Then they changed over paint to another color. Colors are batched, Now they are into the greys which were backed up due to the harmonization Issue. Nearly all of the remaining 2021 orders are for Grey cars (Except for silver which are delayed until Q4). They will run through those, most likely, and get ahead of the other colors before changing over paint again, likely to red.
This is the first I've heard of Q4 for silvers, but then again with the switching of DAs and the lack of communication I'm not entirely surprised. I have to say I have become very wobble on this whole thing.

Question on the Grand Touring:

Horsepower is the same for smooth and swift( both 536).

Torque is 620 smooth and 645 swift.

Since the numbers are so close together, what is the difference between driving in smooth vs swift. Why not just have smooth and Sprint since the smooth and swift appear to have little difference between them..

Unless of course there is a difference in suspension settings between smooth and swift.?? or change in other settings??
The suspension is noticeably different between smooth and swift. Smooth is more floaty, swift is tighter and more planted but not harsher at all. It may affect the steering also? To me there seems to be a bit more understeer in smooth than swift, but smooth is still excellent and I leave the car in smooth most of the time.

Hello all, I’ve been following this site for the last couple of months and it’s been very helpful. Please add my info to the tracker to help provide more real data. My confirm date was 1/5/22 and the car is Quantum Grey/ Santa Cruz/ 21”. I received my VIN on 6/11/22 and was asked for payment as my car was “Ready” on 7/9/22. Lucid received and confirmed payment on 7/13/22. I spoke with my rep who has been outstanding on 7/15 and we’re trying to schedule delivery at Short Hills mall on Thursday 7/21. One interesting thing is he said I could do home delivery but that may delay things as scheduling could be an issue. I hope this helps

I don't know if I should bother trying to make sense why @Balin, @histal, and I received VINs before you, but haven't heard word on completion. I suspect logistics is the reason. Perhaps a truck is nearly full, and it made financial sense to put yours on it. I don't really need an explanation, I have a great deal of patience. I'm just more hopeful that mine coming soon.
This is from my DA last evening; it frankly does not make sense:

I was able to get an update that there are still cars that have not yet completed the heightened review process. These new guidelines caused a huge back log of cars to go through this review which is the reason why it is taking long for many them, and it is not a sign that there are concerning issues with your vehicle.

They are getting through each review as fast as they can, and I have put your vehicle on their radar to see when they expect to have the review done. I hope to hear something as soon as next week and will reach out to you once I do.

Makes sense to me. They have a ton of cars to get through and are having a hard time telling exactly where your vehicle is in the inspection backlog. That doesn’t make it any less frustrating that you don’t know when you’ll have your car though.

Sounds like they are still going through them. My VIN was issued on April 26th and stuck in the same queue. It was only delivered a week ago so I would think your car is close. They won’t say anything until it’s done, perhaps not until it is actually at the service center ready for delivery.

I received my VIN yesterday, July 15. My confirmation was on March 1.
Since the DAs are now saying it should take 8 weeks or less for the car to leave the factory once production begins, I may see my car in September.

They updated the configuration page and added the Q4 availability. Not sure if that applies to orders made some time ago but I think it would.

5~12 weeks any time. The variance is wide, congratulation!

How do you make sense of @LRSIII having his VIN issued over 45 days later than mine, same color and interior configuration, same delivery point, being notified his vehicle is shipping, while mine is in an inspection delay?

I think it is evident that your VIN was issued during the time Lucid was having problems with their quality control and a lot of cars were put on hold and LRSIII car was produced after the delay at the plant.

Yeah as @stevelitchfieldpark said your car’s production must have fallen very close to the pause and recall, so it may have been a perfect storm of bad timing for your car where it needed a PDI redo but his had gone through the revised standard thus needing less time in inspection/re-inspection? I totally get it’s annoying. I just read an article about a nightmare Rivian delivery process too where they had no idea when his car would be ready then told him it was ready and needed a cashiers check with one day notice on a weekend then turned out it had been ready for a few weeks, then he found a problem with the PPF on delivery but they fixed it quick at least. Not making excuses, I think all agree Lucid needs to do a better job giving customers more accurate information, but I think that starts with them getting the accurate information internally, which I’m not sure they’ve figured out how to do yet? I feel for the DAs, they cover 100 customers per DA and often don’t have access to the info they need to keep customers in the loop.

Agreed. Logistics are insanely difficult to manage. The logistics of getting something from point A to point B — particularly something big and relatively fragile like a car — while simultaneously ensuring product integrity AND performing product quality checks is a whole other ball of wax. Just because something sounds simple, it doesn’t mean your intuitive solution is the most efficient or workable approach. And Lucid is tackling this challenge with kinks in every part of its logistics chain!

Per the DAs when mine was in production purgatory - “every car has its own unique journey.”

You will never get he answer you are looking for.

I hear what you guys are saying, but by telling me repeatedly that my car has no particular issue and is only in an inspection backlog, it certainly begs the question of why the inspection process is not FIFO. I know no one can answer this here, so I will stop being annoying and shut up.

We are here with you and are certainly sympathetic to your situation.

I think that I can answer but you probably won't like it. If they used the First in First Out theory, they would have had to delay the production (shut down the plant) another 4-6 weeks while they were doing inspections and recalls on all the cars produced that had possible problems. Or holding the cars that were produced after the problems/procedures were corrected would even cause a bigger bottleneck than they have now
