Not working Tesla wall charger but works with Tesla EVSE

I have the Gen-2 Wall Connectors set to 48A. I plug the Tesla NACS plug directly into the Gravity. The car says Cable Connected immediately and Charging starts soon thereafter. I have left dip Switch #2 to Normal (UP). Putting switch #2 to Legacy has not worked for me.

I still charge Teslas, and this is part of a shared 3 Wall Connector setup. The charger that I am changing settings on is the Master Charger that communicates with the other chargers to set their respective current, which maxes out at 48A.
I also had a similar problem when I was playing and testing. People who used a Teslatap adapter seemed to be successful. I called the teslatap company and they told me that the Teslas tap #2 dip switch in the up or on position will require that you install the Teslastap 30 seconds prior to connecting to the gravity adapter that comes with the gravity. The Teslataphas a small circuit that helps with communication and success on the gravity. The Teslatap person was not correct with several of their suggestions. If you are charging at 48 amps you can purchase a less costly Teslatap. I bought the more costly lightening version with hopes of 80 amp charging. That failed for me.
I had trouble free success at 48 amps gen 2 plugged into Teslatap adapter which makes the connector a J-1772 so I used the adapter that came with the Gravity to plug into to convert back to the nacs plug for the gravity.
There is definitely a communications issue that the teslatap helps with. I have heard that there is a timing issue once the adapter is plugged into the Tesla gen 2 charger with the #2 in the on position.
For me the I leave the teslatap connected to the Gravity J-1772 to NACS adapter and just plug the gen 2 charger into the teslatap. You should wait 25-30 seconds then plug into the Gravity. That should work but unfortunately the Tesla Tap in not inexpensive.

This all sounds incredibly, and overly, complex to me. I know it’s not cheap, but if you want to charge at 80A without adapters and dip switch adjustments, can’t you buy the Lucid wall connector with NACS?

Again, I know it’s not cheap, but all of the troubleshooting and issues folks have had seem like they take a ton of time and time is money.

The Tesla Gen 2 wall charging unit would not work for me at 80 amps, not at 72 amps, not at 64 amps.
It did work at 56 amps but did not work well. There were fluctuations in level of charging and constant stops and restarts which became more frequent at I pased 70% charged.
When I changed the internal setting to 48 amps. the charging was constant at 11kW and went until my set 80% max charge and stopped at that point Still added 37-38 mph.
The dip switch #2 will work in on or off positions but you need to wait at lest 22 seconds (they suggest 30 seconds) after connecting the teslatap to the Gen 2 NACS connector if the switch is set to on or up for Tesla charging.

This is part of a 3 Wall Connector shared setup, which unfortunately forces charging on my Lucid Air to 48A. Honestly, I wanted the Teslatap Lightening to work at 80 Amps and it failed to do so. I kept using the teslatap for my testing after that point so I never really tried going directly into the Gravity and monitoring how it functioned during the charging. the charger is simply a source of electricity and the charger is built into the car so if it works for you that sounds great. Have you tried charging at 48 amps with the Gen 2 charger directly into the NACS port on the Gravity? I was just sharing my experience as calling Lucid was not helpful for me to determine how to make the transition from Tesla to Lucid work seamlessly unless I purchased a Lucid connected charger and replaced the Tesla charger in both of my homes.

Total guess, but not sure more than maybe 10%, max, of owners would use (or even understand) an OCPP server. Seems like something an enthusiast (hint, hint) would/could set-up for folks versus Lucid. There are a couple of open source ones out there.

One of the last things Lucid needs to allocate resources to is an OCPP server, IMHO.

i plugged my NACS Gen 2 Tesla charger that I reduced to 48 amps directly into my Gravity and it worked flawlessly the same way it worked with the adapters , This is clearly simpler and it makes my wife happier as well.
Just wanted to circle back to confirm what you suggested.
 
A slightly different but successful experience with my Gen 2 Tesla wall charger, set at 48 amps, no changes to dip switch settings, charges the Gravity at 48 Amps. 56 amps or higher did not work in my case. My circuit is rated at 100 Amps 240 V and it previously was set at 80 Amps but charged our S and Y at 48 Amps peak
 
Gen 1 Tesla wall charger. Super easy to turn the dial to “9” which results in 48A output. No need to touch dipswitch. Only annoyance was needed a T20 to remove screws. In total, took under 10 minutes and I am definitely not a DIY person.

Tried at 80A out as others did and didn’t work. Wasn’t looking for every last kw, so just turned it to 48A as folks here suggested.

Gravity has the ability to set the max current draw - if one sets their Gravity to charge at 48amps, does it matter what the Gen-2 Wall Connector is set at?

The Tesla wall connector, like all EVSEs, sends a pilot signal that says it can supply up to 80A. Since the Gravity does not understand that signal, it gets a charging error. It will not blindly draw 48A, because it has no way of knowing what the circuit is capable of.

Just got my GGT home and plugged in my Tesla Gen 2 wall connector set to 40a (50a breaker, NEMA 14-50, rotary switch set to 50a breaker/40a max output). It told me to unplug and plug back in.

I came in to research here and read this thread telling me to set the rotary switch to 48a which I'm assuming is the 60a breaker/48a max output setting?

Hmmm, mine is set lower than that so it should work, right?

I went back out to the garage and noticed that the lights in the charge port were white and the screen said "waiting for scheduled charge".

So, I'm guessing that my 40a max output settings will work right and the "please unplug and plug back in" is related to that 20 second delay mentioned above? If so, then I'll forge ahead. I'm not looking to get another wall connector at this place because I'm going to buy a "forever home" supposedly in the next year or two.

It seems that either the car or the wall box is set for a scheduled time. Let us know if it runs as scheduled - I have the same setup and it works fine.

Mine ONLY works at the 48A (60A) setting for whatever reason. Doesn’t charge slower even at lower setting. Just doesn’t charge. I stopped messing with it because it works at the 48A.
