If you drive a vehicle that meets certain emissions standards and other criteria, you may be able to get Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) decals and a CAV decal identification (ID) card, which allow single occupancy use of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV, or carpool) lanes.

I've found that it's better to do a google search for what you need from DMV rather than try to find it on their web site. It is the worst site I have ever tried to navigate.

Do not believe everything you read on the Cali DMV web site. I ordered a custom plate last June. The website stated 8 - 12 weeks. I called them after 15 weeks. They said it was really 4 - 6 months and the web site has now been updated to reflect that. I called after 7 months and was told that the real time now is 9 - 12 months, but they don't want to put that online.

Thanks for sharing the site. I had previously applied in December and hadn't heard anything. Upon going through the online app, I was able to confirm they issued a sticker last week. This is a good way to check on your status.

I just got mine too. It wasn’t the 5 days like it said in email. I just requested the new fastrak for clean air sticker user

Piece of advice, be careful and do not place these stickers directly on the car paint. It will strip it when you try to remove it. (My body shop made this error.) These adhesives are super sticky. On PPF or other sticker film, they are fine and can be removed and replaced if you need to.

I've found that it's better to do a Google search for what you need from DMV, like finding the FasTrak phone number or the Clean Air Vehicle decal info, rather than try to navigate their website. It’s one of the worst sites I’ve ever used.

It typically takes about 7 to 10 business days after approval to receive the stickers in the mail.

Yup, unless Congress extends it. And, uh, I don’t see that happening, but I love surprises, in case any congresspeople are reading this.

I thought it was a state decision? If so, it would be a terrific incentive if CA can keep it in place for manufacturers headquartered in CA.

It looks like the current program was created by the state assembly bill cited in the article. Past ones were created by state senate bills.

No doubt. Yes, you are very correct. It's state run.

If you reads a little further:

"States wishing to allow certain vehicles with a single occupant access to HOV lanes must have federal authorization to do this."

Sure, a state can create all the assembly bills it wants but the final say is still the Fed.
