Mismatch in body paint/fascia?

A couple of days ago, my son and I flew to Houston to pick up my Air Touring. It is painted in Quantum Silver Metallic and I noticed that the trunk didn't match the door, mostly on the passenger side. The sparkle/metallic finish was much denser, with more sparkles per inch, and the sparkles seem to have "pooled" in some areas. It looked like it had been sprayed with a heavy hand by a different person, or repainted.

There were also about 10 scratches on the hood, trunk, and a side mirror, plus a tiny chip on the driver's door. After a lot of back and forth between me, the delivery person, the delivery manager (by phone) and the service manager (who only spoke by phone to the on-site delivery person), the detailers came back to work and took out all of the scratches, except one on the front chrome which was added to the Due Bill. The chip on the driver's door was more or less fixed still with a clear-coat chip but much less visible. Since I drive and park the car all over New Orleans, I'm expecting more chips in the future.

However, the service manager texted my delivery person to say that paint mismatching between the body and trunk was normal because the panels were made from different materials‽ He said they wouldn't do anything about it. The delivery person even showed me the text from the service manager. Since we were excited to get the car and didn't have return plane tickets, I kind of let the trunk thing go and accepted the car. Now it's annoying me. I'm wondering if I did the right thing accepting the car.

Am I being unreasonable about the color issue?

Despite the crappy delivery experience, I am liking the car and glad to be out of my Musk-mobile. It out performs my Model S in pretty much every way.
Ahhhh. I'd push back on that one. That mismatch is fairly apparent. And I've seen them match those colors better.

Escalate if you have to. Politely, but firmly.

Thanks, @joec. That's what I plan to do. Fingers crossed!
It’s worth noting that they’re not lying about the material making a massive difference though; if you sprayed the exact same paint on plastic and on aluminum, it would look like a different color.

Color matching like this is a pain, and so often why repainted bumpers and the like are a slightly different shade.

I’d also push back a bit, since this one seems pretty obvious to the naked eye, but it is true that the material would make it look different. That doesn’t make it unnecessary to fix though. :)

Well, my car is in the shop at Houston for a suspension clunk, so I asked them to look at the paint mismatch. Last week Gen Manager says he saw a "slight difference" in the paint colors and that he would have the service manager evaluate it. This week the service manager said he looked at it and that he saw absolutely no difference. So not too sure where to go from here.

Does anyone have a noticeable difference between the body paint and the rear trunk and lower rear facia? Its hard to see in the photo below but it is definitely a different shade. The main body is a pure white while the back trunk and fascia have more of a cream tone. I even had my neighbor (a car guy) come over and he saw it right away. I didn’t notice it at delivery as I was looking mostly at alignment and gap issues. Curious if anyone else has seen this and what my next step should be? We dont have a service center nearby but I was thinking of taking it to the local Studio to see what they think. I was also hoping that Bobby and others (including our local LUCID mobile service rep) could take a look at our San Diego meetup on the 8th.View attachment 8293
Thank you for sharing this. I took delivery of my '23 Air Touring in the evening a couple of weeks ago from Carvana. In that light, all looked good but a day in high sun, I noticed the back passenger door was distinctly a different color when looking at the car from the side. I have mobile service coming in a few weeks to address the wind sound at the driver's door and will talk with him about the mismatch as well. Should I also call customer service to talk about it?

If it was purchased used from Caravana that could be a challenge.. Any chance that the door was repaired and repainted.. ?

That's what it seems like to me.

There is always that possibility, I imagine. Am hoping that mobile service can help provide some answers for me.
