Lucid Motors in Canada

I also just want to remark on what a fantastic parent the person you are referring to seemingly is. People like this are who I aspire to be, in terms of how they treat their kids.
What the heck are you talking about?
Is this a parody? Or schmoozing.
Or, is it a one of those
"We can see what is possible, unburdened by what has been!"

Politics are okay now, even in Off-Topics?
Do mods have double standards, or what!
It will a miracle if my post goes through.
I am exploring the idea of allowing the Off Topic section to be more open for discussions, as some of these conversations are valuable to have. The forum rules will still apply.

The moderators are simply enforcing the forum rules. This change is solely at my discretion and hopefully I won’t regret it.

It is being discussed internally. Insults are definitely still not allowed no matter what.

Prior to this, all politics were equally removed, left or right. The standards were applied equally across members and the mods are here simply to enforce the guidelines. That doesn’t mean the guidelines are never subject to change.

Key word, "were". I'm for moderation, but on both sides. That's all. Am i guaranteeing that we won't have heated discussions? No.
Insults? Only toward mods. I'm joking of course.
Hopefully, you can take a joke. Sometimes you can't, unfortunately.

For what it's worth, I'm on the fence about this. There is a lot coming out of the political environment that will possibly impact Lucid, and I'd like to see discussion about it allowed, such as whether tariffs will affect Lucid sourcing and/or sales. But maybe allowing political discussion should be accompanied by a requirement that only political issues should be raised that have a nexus to Lucid -- and that may be a difficult line to find and enforce. I see both benefit and risk, and am hence on the fence.

That’s precisely how we treat moderation; we aim for fairness. That means you end up equally pissed off as others; it’s rare that everyone is happy. Please don’t imply otherwise; we aim for fairness and always have.

No problem with discussions if they are respectful. When insults start flying, they will get shut down regardless.

Insults? Only toward mods.
🙄

I did standup comedy for years, and improv for even longer. I’m usually the class clown.

Love jokes. They’ve just gotta be funny. ;)

No, I still want to own fancy cars, but I would want to hide them from my kids for a period of time! 🤣

My theory is that you don’t want to make them feel spoiled from an extremely young age, as that could make it part of their personality. Rather, until they are, let’s say 7 or so, you would try and make them humble (not exposing them to too much fancy stuff, teaching them the value of something when they are), and then I would expose them to fancy cars, etc.

Probably completely wrong in terms of reasoning (and your I can see where your comment is coming from), but my main objective is just to make my kids humble (and not spoiled brats)! If there’s a way to do it even while exposing them to too much overly fancy stuff (there probably is), I would definitely do it.

This is straightforward... You explain it to them. No need for a circus act. You tell the kids how you got to point A to point B, the finances, the dice rolls, the setbacks, and the windfalls.

Context is everything.

This thread has been pretty polite even though it includes some politics. I think the key is with the tone of the comments.

I agree. Politics is among the most extremely charged topics, so this kind of discussion is rare (and has historically not been polite).

If every discussion were polite, I’d love that.

Almost as rare as a conservative on a Lucid forum! 🤣

I think you (the general you, not you specifically) might be surprised by many people’s politics in general. Many of us just don’t wear it on our sleeve. For example, I’m very much an accidental moderate, but if you ask a number of folks I’m sure they’d say I’m very liberal. If you ask other folks I’ve discussed other topics with, they might think I’m a conservative. They’d all be wrong. :)

But you’re probably right that this forum likely leans more left than right on average. As mods, we don’t get to do that; we can certainly have opinions, and we can express them. But we will not shut down opinions we disagree with unless they are unproductive, insulting, etc.

The hollowing out of the center of American politics and the migration of people toward the extremes, along with the loss of interest in and understanding of the need for compromise, is the most corrosive domestic political trend I've seen in my lifetime.

The last, though fleeting, moment of optimism I had was back in 2015 when there were murmurings of a Kasich / Hickenlooper cross-party ticket emerging.

Left or right are ideological terms. Unfortunately, they have become applied to what should be matters of science, not politics or ideology. The notion that you are leftist because you accept the science behind global warming concerns or the efficacy of vaccines is an absurdity.

I completely agree
