Lucid gravity order begins Nov 7

I just got this email from my local Lucid Studio manager. Should I assume that an order placed today is unlikely to be delivered before the end of 2025 if he is offering me a tentative test drive in mid-2025?

Congratulations on your Lucid Gravity Grand Touring order and welcome to the Lucid community. Lucid Gravity is setting new benchmarks in the Luxury EV / SUV category - and we want your customer experience to be just as special.

As we progress into the New Year, I will ensure to stay in touch with you and share any exciting updates such as local Pop-Up Events, GravityTest Drive Experiences (tentatively before 2nd half of 2025), and general news relative to Lucid Gravity.

In the meantime, we have compiled a series of Lucid Gravity videos that we thought you might appreciate viewing (see below).

It says nonrefundable.

$1,000 USD
Non-refundable Order Deposit will be subtracted from your total amount due.
Refresh. They've since fixed it; it originally launched with the language for the Air, but I can promise you it is definitively refundable before your order begins production.

FYI I just got word from Lucid sales that there will be no trade in program till mid to late 2025.

That answers that question.

Oh well, I guess I’ll be selling my AGT privately.

Makes sense, they get to move Gravity and have time to figure out the secondary market for Air.

Bummer. I have too many cars and was hoping to trade in my Dream Edition (or any other car they will take).

So it's the policy of the company to discriminate 2nd hand owners ...

I still have a bunch of time left on my complimentary EA charging and never expected Lucid to transfer that over to the Gravity for me. Most of this stuff stays with the model you purchase as a sales incentive so you either ride it out or if you want to jump ship then be prepared to lose those items.

This is not an uncommon practice. This isn't the warranty, but free maintenance.

Dealerships give away maintenance packages if you buy a new car from them all the time. Those maintenance packages aren't transferable to anyone you sell it to. Moreover, they're usually not even transferable to another dealership.
This is not true.

Mercedes Benz states the following on their website:

Included with both Prepaid Maintenance and Extended Limited Warranty

  • Honored at any of our 380+ authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers
  • Includes service by factory-trained technicians using Genuine Mercedes-Benz Parts
  • Helps retain your vehicle's integrity and market value
  • Transferable to a new owner if the vehicle is sold in a private sale

OK, I said it wasn't uncommon, not that it happened for every Manufacturer. But since we're playing this game, fine:

Hyundai: https://www.hyundaiusa.com/us/en/assurance/complimentary-maintenance
* "Complimentary maintenance is not transferable; available to original owner/first retail customers only (except it can be transferred from spouse to spouse).

It's poorly-crafted language, but I think this is referring to a deposit that has become non-refundable by dint of the order having been finalized. That's the significance of the phrase "subtracted from your total amount due" -- a figure that is not determined until shortly before delivery after taxes, registration fees, and other incidentals have been put into the calculation.

It is confusing, but it does not necessarily conflict with the statement that deposits remain refundable up until finalization of the order.

The Mercedes program is "Prepaid Maintenance", meaning something the customer paid extra for at the time of purchase. (I have purchased such programs for my Mercedes and Hondas.). The Lucid maintenance program is complimentary, meaning the customer did not pay extra for it. So it's an apples and oranges comparison.

No one said anything about complimentary maintenance. If it was complimentary, how would a dealer throw it in...? It would be standard from the OEM as is in the case with Lucid and Hyundai.

And for the record, Ferrari comes with complimentary maintenance for 7 years and it is transferable to all owners.

Do we have any insight/guesses as to how the Touring trim would be different from the GT? Do we think it's primarily different power and battery capacity? I can't think of much on the interior/features that could be stripped off the base GT really to differentiate the trims.

I am going to guess that is correct. Starting price $80k, with all the same options as GT. Fully loaded around $107K with around 600hp and about 100-120 miles less range. This is just a wild guess. It's possible that they won't make some options available on Touring to try to force people to buy GT. I think that would bad strategy on their part.

I always thought this was a specific option you had to select or purchase though?

The only thing I can think is no glass roof? But you can today option up an Air with just about everything on the GT, and the motors are actually software limited, so its battery pack...

Who said anything about a dealer throwing anything in?

You compared the Mercedes Prepaid Maintenance transferability to the Lucid 2-year free maintenance program's lack of transferability to suggest Lucid was showing its customers less consideration. I pointed out that Mercedes customers have to pay extra for their prepaid maintenance program whereas Lucid customers do not. There is a big difference between not being able to transfer something for which you paid and not being able to transfer something for which you did not pay.

Isn't it possible the models available for test drives are the same models being delivered to customers?
Not sure if there is something different to be done to test drive models to make them available to customers. Other than disabling demo mode or someting like that.
Also, wondering if they will deliver to customers that have ordered, knowing those customers have ordered before test driving.

Just guessing.
Reply to email and ask?

My understanding is that the clause is exactly about this stuff to not stay with the model when it changes the owner: the new owner of your current Air will not get everything that you got with the car.

Some good news regarding the 6 seat configuration; the one with captain chairs. I confirmed with sales that it does exist. The even have some prototypes built with 6 seats. They chose to not offer it now because their research showed that most people want 5 or 7 seats. It will be offered sometime next year.

So, for me, I’ll wait to order till then. I’ll enjoy my AGT a few more (maybe many more) months.

Huh? So why don't they show it on the order configurator with the "later availability" tag they put on the Lunar Titanium paint color?

I am now seriously considering canceling my order to wait for the captains chairs, but I would like to see how they look before deciding to postpone. One of the issues we noted when sitting in the Gravity in Miami a few weeks ago was that the fold-down center armrest in the second row is much wider than in the Air and can press into the sides of larger passengers.
