The other huge factor to consider when talking about road tripping an EV is WHEN the trip is taking place. If you are road tripping during a major holiday or known event like the recent eclipse, you are entering a world of pain.
This is also an issue for ICE cars, of course. But any delays you'd factor into a 4th of July or Memorial Day weekend trip for your ICE car you have to multiply by five in an EV.
You need to plan your charging stops not only by distance, but by time of day and day of week.
Apps like PlugShare should incorporate busy time of day graphs, like you see in Yelp for restaurants and museums. That would go a long way towards planning to hit chargers at non-peak times.
