Issues Gravity Software Updates Haven't Yet Fixed

You live on top of magnets, bro.

I don’t know. I just don’t know.

I've been thinking about this.

If three Gravities owned by contributors to this one thread have experienced this identical problem, these cars are on opposite coasts, and they were manufactured over a span of at least six months, I think it's highly likely that other Gravities are experiencing this problem, too.

I have sent all the photos (mine and @bryway's) and information I have about it to the software team email. I've never had any acknowledgement of receipt or follow-up contact from this team, but I'm hoping someone sees it and addresses it.

Possibly; before, it seemed to be just you. Now, it seems like it might be rare or a small percentage, which is even more annoying, in a way, lol

What do you think the chances are that I bought two Gravities -- manufactured six months apart -- and both are among a small percentage that have this particular defect?

I know it's possible, but I think it much more likely that a significant number of cars are experiencing (or will experience) this defect if it is not addressed by Lucid. Note that it did not occur in our newer Gravity until three months and almost 2,000 miles after we took delivery.

Here's the only thing we know for sure: 9 people who have posted on this thread report owning Gravities. Three of those cars have already experienced this issue.

And if it is a hardware defect, it is one that requires removal of the dashboard to correct, a time- and labor-intensive operation. Lucid would be well-advised to delve into this issue quickly to determine what the source of the problem is and how widespread it is instead of plowing ahead with production using a component that might present problems a considerable time after delivery.

I know it seems to some that I post about an extraordinary number of issues with Lucids. However, as far as I know, I am the only forum member who has owned 5 early-production Lucids: 2 Air Dream Editions and 3 Gravity Dream Editions.

Given the fact that Lucid issues -- especially software ones -- seem to vary a lot from car to car, if anyone is going to see an outsized number and array of issues, it would likely be me. And not because there is anything unique about where I live or how I use and drive the cars, but simply because I have had so much more exposure to them than most forum members over the past four-plus years.

Sure, I agree. I have no idea how likely it is. You have had more issues than literally any vehicle owner on this forum. That's all I mean.

We are all way more informed about potential issues we too might encounter because owners like you take the time to provide thorough posts of your experiences.
I for one, am grateful. Thank you and keep 'em coming

..... But in the past week we've seen:

1. upper and lower screens not powering up until several minutes after entering the car
2. rear hatch refusing to lock and then reopening itself
3. car not responding to key fob either to power up and unlock or to lock and power down
4. easy entry/exit feature not returning driver seat to programmed position
5. constant "key fob not detected" messages
6. and now the LED Vibe malfunction.

It's as if the car developed a minor infection a week ago that is now threatening to go septic.

We are planning a spring drive from Florida up to New England and had already decided not to take the older Gravity even though it has the mid-sized wheels we chose for road tripping. Now I'm becoming reluctant to get far afield with the newer Gravity, too, as its software problems seem to be spreading and I'm worried about them hitting the charge
function at some point. (We've had a few intermittent episodes of this with the older Gravity.)

In short, I'm not confident in putting either of these steaming piles of software manure on the road for any distance from home.

FWIW, both are running version 3.4.4.
I think it has long-Covid.

Add to this the fact that the issue I was experiencing has now traveled to the leftmost portion of the illuminated channel in the dash (see pics). And this time it stayed on for the entire duration of my 45-minute commute to work this morning.

Hoo, boy. Things are not looking up on this.

Well, as fate would have it, we also had some new experiences with this errant strip this evening. As we left the restaurant where we had dinner to head home, the Vibe lighting was working normally.

Suddenly, while going down the road, the errant strip came on, but in three segments this time: blacked out, white, and the color to which the other strips were set:

When we got home and shifted into "Park", the rest of the dasbboard strip came on as it should, except that the errant strip now switched to two segments, the right side lit correctly but another section of it bright white:

When the car powered down and locked itself for the night, the errant strip remained on with everything else in the car turned off. I don't know how long it stayed on, but when I checked about a half hour later, it had finally turned off.

The above post happened with our older Gravity tonight. However, the whole evening has been beset with Gravity software problems.

On the way home while the LED strip was going haywire, the brightness of the HUD began to wax and wane every few seconds, going from full bright to very dim. This happened during the whole drive home at 4-5 second intervals.

And . . . on the way to dinner we had detected a problem with our newer Gravity. It has been at the detailing shop since yesterday. At 5:52 p.m. -- almost an hour after the shop closed -- I checked the app to see where they had parked it. I got this warning that the rear hatch was stuck about a third of the way open -- something that has happened with me several times in addition to the malfunction where it keeps opening itself when I close it. (The mobile tech has already replaced the latch, hoping that would cure the issue, but it started recurring two days later.)

I was able to open the hatch all the way using the app, but then it refused to close. So it's just past 9:00 p.m. and the car is still sitting at the detailer with the rear wide open.

I am really starting to hate these cars and the f.....g company that is putting me through all this because they rushed a defective product to market while yammering on about how great the user software experience would be with UX 3.0. It's a total shit show, and the updates aren't doing a damn thing to straighten things out.

To anyone planning to buy a Cosmos or an Earth: don't believe a damn thing they say about how the software will perform.

I dunno man. No one has it worse than @hmp10, but there are quite a few frustrated Gravity owners here, and not that big of a forum population. I know that problems draw people to complain online, and trouble free driving doesn't pull people to the forum. But I think it's reasonable to conclude that Lucid's software has a whole lot of non-deterministic behavior that has resulted in way too high a frequency of gremlins. I still want a Gravity, but I'm thankful I decided to not take delivery at the end of November. A 2027 with a bunch of small hardware improvements and hopefully dramatic software improvements is now what I'm hoping for.

Indeed. Not everyone was able to take delivery of a Gravity Unicorn Edition. There are many with issues with different degrees of annoyance and purchase regret inducing behavior.

Agree, and I’ve had my share of issues. To be fair, Lucid tried their darndest to fix them and have about 90% succeeded. What’s frustrating is the “feeling” I have about the car. I was sooo excited to place my order, and even more excited to have been fortunate enough to secure a Dream Edition. But the excitement is somewhat diminished now. It’s difficult to describe, because it’s nowhere near regret. I absolutely LOVE the performance, handling and ride quality, along with the styling, spaciousness, smart interior design, etc. The “feeling” I’m trying to put my finger on is probably “anxiety”. I’ve had early builds of all-new cars before (2008 BMW E93 M3 hardtop convertible; the first and last naturally aspirated V8 in an M3, and BMW’s first implementation of a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and first implementation of iDrive in a 3-series), and a 2016 G12 BMW 750i (their first full-car electronics system to be fully Ethernet, and their first full air suspension in a 7-series), and both of those experiences were flawless, and I positively loved those cars. Seriously.

However, with my Gravity DE, I always have this sense of anxiety when I approach it intent on driving. Anxiety and angst collide as I approach wondering if it’ll unlock this time as I approach, or if I will have to stand there for a few seconds waiting for it to do so? Will the interior lights do the right thing? Will the center display freeze as I’m trying to switch between Navigation and Entertainment screens? Who bloody knows? I have to plow ahead and see for myself on that particular drive.

That’s what I don’t like. These feelings as I approach the car subtract from the feelings I SHOULD be having: pride and joy of ownership and all that. I do feel that pride of ownership as I approach the car, but it’s snatched away in an instant by the anxiety and angst I mentioned above.

I think I’m trying (and probably failing) to say that I hate to have to carry that anxiety and angst with me every single frickin’ day. 🫩 I just want to enjoy the car — fluidly — without all the worry.

I can’t believe they released these cars in this state. Ridiculous.

Anxiety... exactly

I agree with you. I was not referring to “all problems.” I was referring specifically to the LED light strip misbehaving.

Absolutely spot on. Exactly my feelings about the Gravity . . . and it's exhausting.

I should add that, if I'm running to a tight schedule, I have to add an extra 5-10 minutes to my calculation to allow for balky door unlocking, blacked out screens to come up, a software reboot, seat positions to be reset, other programmed settings to be redone, etc. It's absurd.

Stockholm Syndrome is real.

Similar to what bryway said - I had a 2013 BMW 750, and it had every single issue that plagued the N63 engines. It got to the point where I would obsessively stare at the instrument cluster on every drive, waiting for some new fault or error code to pop up - and it often did. I was in a constant state of anxiety, followed by depression, every time I drove that thing anywhere. I was under warranty the whole time but ended up where hmp is now - I hated that car with a passion, even though I thought it was beautiful and was an incredible driver. I went to the border of Texas, went in to a shopping center and left the car running the entire 2 hours I was in there, praying someone would steal it and take it across the border into Mexico - but even the cartels knew better. That car drove me insane, and I vowed to never go through that again. Life is way too short.

Spending six figures on a car that leads to spending five figures on therapy is not fun. 🤣
