Issues Gravity Software Updates Haven't Yet Fixed

Has anyone put on the bears after ppf and any problem?

Yes and yes.

One of our Gravities was delivered with the bear logos already mounted (although I had asked that they not be). The PPF shop removed them and put them back on over the film, but they did not hold well. The second Gravity was delivered with the logos not attached, and they adhered well to the PPF once it was installed. So I ordered a new pair of logos to be put on the first car, and they held fine.

Same thing with the Gravity logo on the rear hatch. Reattaching the original logo did not hold, but mounting a new logo over the PPF did.

1) Charging at home via the Lucid 80A charger is still not fixed with the latest updates. Charging throttles down from 19kW to 11kW within 45 minutes.

2) Cannot turn on 3rd HVAC when it’s occupied by 2 car seats. This is extremely dangerous and completely negligent on Lucid’s part.

3) When the 2nd row is occupied by 2 car seats or boosters, you cannot access the 3rd row. The seat back does not tilt forward enough to trigger the seat to move forward. Manually moving the seat forward does not allow enough room to enter the 3rd row.

Tonight, for the first time, our newer Gravity also exhibited the identical dashboard LED issue (same length of strip, same bright white, same full intensity) that our older Gravity exhibits and that @bryway's Gravity is experiencing:

Either all these strips have the same manufacturing defect, or it's the software. I now suspect the latter.

Up until recently, this newer Gravity (delivered in mid-December) was relatively problem-free compared to our older Gravity. But in the past week we've seen:

1. upper and lower screens not powering up until several minutes after entering the car
2. rear hatch refusing to lock and then reopening itself
3. car not responding to key fob either to power up and unlock or to lock and power down
4. easy entry/exit feature not returning driver seat to programmed position
5. constant "key fob not detected" messages
6. and now the LED Vibe malfunction.

It's as if the car developed a minor infection a week ago that is now threatening to go septic.

We are planning a spring drive from Florida up to New England and had already decided not to take the older Gravity even though it has the mid-sized wheels we chose for road tripping. Now I'm becoming reluctant to get far afield with the newer Gravity, too, as its software problems seem to be spreading and I'm worried about them hitting the charge
function at some point. (We've had a few intermittent episodes of this with the older Gravity.)

In short, I'm not confident in putting either of these steaming piles of software manure on the road for any distance from home.

FWIW, both are running version 3.4.4.

While I agree this is a relative oversight that should be fixed with software update, isn't it a bit sensationalist to call this 'extremely dangerous?'
Uncomfortable at worst.

Never heard of 3rd row heat stroke or frostbite?
Gravity is a long suv.
A whole different zone back there. 😀

Our older Gravity was in the Service Center for over 3 weeks recently, mostly for software issues. One of the issues they supposedly fixed was the right side of the dashboard LED accent light strip staying on at night when the car is in "drive" mode -- and staying on in a different color and at higher intensity than the door LED strips. Our mobile tech thought it was a hardware issue with the strip, but the Service Center said it was an intermittent miscalibration in the software that controlled that segment of the LED strip and that they corrected it by recalibrating the strip.

Tonight, a week after the car's return to us, the problem returned. It's annoying as hell to drive at night with a strip of bright white light glaring in your peripheral vision. And it does not go away with a software reboot.

Again, the software in these cars is still not stable and remains endlessly annoying. If they still cannot get the Gravity software reliable over a year after its release, I truly fear for the Earth launch and Lucid's future.

This got to be hardware/your car problem… again. Never seen this on mine.

At first this seemed unique to our older Gravity. However, as I posted a couple of hours ago, this has now happened with our second Gravity, and @bryway posted a photo yesterday of the identical problem with his Gravity. It is either a manufacturing defect with some of these LED strips or a software problem affecting more than one car.

This is the consistently weird behavior where OTAs “fix” issues and then the software seems to degrade over time. I’ve had some fob issues recently where it won’t unlock without using buttons, then doesn’t lock when I walk away - but it was fine with 3.4.4 for a while.

My biggest software issue is it’s just consistently inconsistent. As soon as I get used to a “fix”, weird stuff happens and then, it appears, across the fleet, cars react differently.

I know it’s hard stuff, and they’ve made a ton of progress, but gremlins continue to roam free. And I have to imagine most buyers are nowhere near as patient as folks in the forum.

You live on top of magnets, bro.

I don’t know. I just don’t know.

It's gotta be a gator contagion ...or perhaps unfairly misplaced Karma for stuff other lawyers did

IDK either

I'd never had key fob problems until now.
Car'd been at SC for 2 weeks and came back with 3.4.4
Key fobs don't lock or unlock the car.
Side view cameras fail.
X-Mike-Brake resets make no difference.
By the way, SC was supposed to put on the bear logos but didn't because the car was ppf'ed.
Has anyone put on the bears after ppf and any problem?
Interesting to read your experience with the key fob issues after your service visit. I had zero key fob issues the first two months I had the car. It was in service for two weeks (they actually replaced the battery pack due to a high voltage fault picked up by the engineering team monitoring remotely, I was unaware of any issues) and since I got the car back both my key fobs are basically useless. Most of the time the car doesn’t recognize them, lock/unlock don’t do anything, and occasionally when the do unlock the vehicle then I get a no key fob error when I get in. Very frustrating. Not sure what has happened to move us backwards.

I wonder if it’s corrosion or something. That’s what happens with Air wipers I guess. Charge port door corrodes, which then causes the wipers to wipe constantly.

Unbelievable.

but it was fine with 3.4.4 for a while.

My biggest software issue is it’s just consistently inconsistent.
My car has been nearly trouble free from a software standpoint - warnings, stuff that goes away - but the number of comments from owners where the updated software clears glitches, fixes the cars - but, then, the update seems to "erode" or the underlying glitches find new ways to present themselves - that is really weird. The car seems to have a brain that can do more that "if, then, else" but instead uses "if, then, else, here's a new way I can get around it" processing power.

Oh yeah, AI isn't going to affect us, is it?

I know less than nothing about software technology, but I can't escape the impression that Lucid's underlying UX software platform is inherently unstable. Our Air has also has some recent moves backward in some of its UX features -- relatively minor ones I haven't reported as they pale in comparison to what's going on with both our Gravities. In terms of user software features I just get the vibe that Lucids are houses built on a beach without foundations, and every time a wall crack develops or the roof shifts they just throw on a patch.

I don't get the same impression about its powertrain software which, as near as I can tell, works as it should.

Whatever it is, they have to figure it out or their midsize won’t be their path to profitability but the final nail. And that’s not what I want at all. I want them to be successful. The cars are engineering marvels. But in a software defined world, software has to be solid.

My brother, who had been holding off on replacing his 2018 Tesla Model 3 until the Earth becomes available, has now decided to move on and look at other offerings. He has only one car and cannot put up with the software problems and constant service visits we've had with our Lucids.

Lucid's recent prognostications about building a licensing franchise around their autonomous driving technology strikes me as the pinnacle of self-delusion when they can't even get key fobs and LED accent lights to work reliably.

Ha! My brother also has a 2018 Model 3 he’s looking to replace and won’t look at Lucid after he drove mine. Wishes he could, but can’t have the issues he had during a quick test of mine.

As for licensing, that’s absurd. Tesla tried it too. Not going to happen. More likely that Waymo or someone like that does it. Right now, a ton of folks still use MobileEye. Point is, just make cars people love and are stable and you won’t have to scratch and claw for every dollar.

In a peculiar way I find the problems I'm now having with the newer Gravity almost a relief. For several months, I've been convinced there was a hardware problem somewhere in the bowels of our older Gravity's electronics or wiring that was causing the software and its updates to malfunction. And I was dreading having finally to decide whether to eat almost $20,000 in PPF and radar installation expenses to lemon law the car, as Lucid was insisting the hardware was not defective.

What's now happening with our newer Gravity brings me to the view that, as wide the array of issues has been with the first Gravity, it all has its origins in defective UX software. And I'm hoping that means that, as this will affect many cars, Lucid will have no choice but to keep plugging away at resolving these issues.

Meanwhile, I have quit promoting the brand to friends and to the casual questioners I still encounter. I cannot in good conscience recommend a Lucid to anyone that I am not sure has both the patience and the financial resilience to deal with the issues owning a Lucid might present to them.

I sometimes wonder what it must feel like to be a chassis or a powertrain engineer at Lucid and know you can hold your own against the best Porsche can throw at you or to know that Lucid space engineering has no equal anywhere . . . yet to see the brand pilloried in the press and by owners due to software that can't deliver basic user features reliably.

I certainly know what it feels like to be someone who placed a heavy financial bet on Lucid's technical prowess in automotive engineering only now to be holding a large tranche of what became effectively a penny stock.
