There has been a concerted push from various groups promoting "studies" that find the production of EV cars (mainly batteries) offsets any carbon reduction. These "studies" are seriously flawed like the recent article stating the actual cost of fueling an EV is the equivalent of $17.33/ gallon.

Here is an article that looks at CO2 reduction and how many miles you need to drive an electric car before the net CO2 production is less than an ICE vehicle.

TLDR: "Lucien Mathieu, T&E’s cars director, said that even if you choose a worst-case scenario – vehicles made and driven with electricity largely from coal – the electric car will win out after about 70,000km (about six years of driving). “The more you drive an electric car, the better it gets,” he said."
(70K km is 43,500 miles or about 4 years for US drivers)

That is the worst case, where all electricity is coming from coal.

As countries move more to renewable, it will only make EV's more greener.

Also, as EV battery renewal tech improves, that will help. One thing we don't need is car manufacturers saying battery replacement will cost 50k and totalling the car after very minor danage- that is you Hyundai!

"The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 model comes in 4 trim levels. Canadian pricing ranges from $54,999 to $62,999 MSRP. The entry-level, Preferred Long Range model starts at $54,999 Canadian dollars for the Electric: 168-kW motor & 77.40-kWh & E battery."

How many takers when the replacement battery cost is equal to or greater than the cost of a new vehicle?
"Hello Mr Hyundai Sonata owner,
The cost to replace your engine is $27,500 - check or charge?"😏
Hyundai customer service is infamous - ask car insurance companies.

Hopefully solid state batteries (and replacements) will be coming soon, driving the cost down to reasonable levels
