I'm thinking Lucid could make a commercial showing a home losing power and going dark briefly. Then all the lights, TV, etc. come back on and the family is relieved and then the camera cuts to the Lucid Air in the garage with it's light bar flashing back and forth as it supplies all the power the house needs through the Lucid Connected Home Charging Station using V2H!! This could be a key differentiator and help drive increased sales while offsetting some of the higher price of our luxury sedans for those who are considering other very expensive forms of backup power. More blackouts are coming, even in the Spring/Summer with fire/wind risks causing utilities to shut down temporarily. Yeah I know Lucid V2H still hasn't been completely developed but what if it was?

I believe Ford had a similar commercial already. I don't really think that your average consumer gets what is required to make it all happen even when the vehicle implements the feature. But agree, education is really needed once available.

Ford has implementation before Lucid did. Lucid has many specs announcements, yet still have to fine-tune its DreamDrive Pro. Peter has toned down some areas of overselling since. Imo, Lucid will be fine if it can adhere to its planned product release schedule. Delay of Touring and Pure production and pushed back Gravity with Sapphire insertion kind of hurt reservation queue.

Yeah Ford got there first and in fact some F150 Lightening owners are participating in the PG&E pilot program testing out V2H and also V2G I believe. But meanwhile Ford is cutting back on the F150 Lightening production so I still think V2H and perhaps V2G are opportunities Lucid could be seizing upon. It isn't clear to me what specifically is holding it up but I'm led to believe from the electrician who installed my LCHCS almost two years ago that it is primarily a software need. Yes there will also be some hardware required but those items are already pretty much identified so it is really software limiting at this time.

No, but it doesn't seem to have made any kind of significant dent for Ford's sales. I think that's the drawback.

I'm not sure that is true. I believe that was one of their very early promotional commercials and initially the F150 Lightening sold pretty well. Then It was the towing impact on the range that I think hurt them most plus cost/benefit vs. ICE F150 just wasn't there for people who want a "working" pickup. Lucid is appealing to an entirely different set of buyers.

Interesting thought. But, as someone who lives in an area with occasional power outages, I think that most folks would do some quick math on the cost of a (insert higher priced EV and home charging station here) that will depreciate and might not be at home when power goes out vs a permanent standby generac-type generator that will add value to the home. That's not to say that it's not a selling point of the EV's that can do it. I just don't see it as a viable economic move that will prompt people with power outage issues to move to an expensive EV setup.

I guess I see it more as a competitive edge for someone who is trying to decide which EV he/she wants to buy. So in that case the cost comparison of a Generac or Powerwalls would only be compared to the additional cost of the hardware beyond the home charging station since the EV owner will want to have a home charging station for his/her EV anyway.

Agreed. But that competitive advantage only works if the other EV is similarly priced to Lucid. I was saying that someone could easily say they wanted to get a Genesis or ID4 or something, then Install a home charger and a standby generator with the savings and probably still not equal the cost of a Lucid depending on model of course. They just would not get all the other benefits of a great car

What does a generator cost? One that can comfortably power the entire house? What does a Tesla Powerwall cost?($8K each). Even it you have 6.5 powerwalls already, for the cost of a home charging system, would you like to double your capacity with your Lucid?

Yeah I looked at a Generac generator that would run off our PG&E supplied gas. For our home it would cost close to $20k including installation. Of course gas charges from PG&E are very high. Equivalent PowerWalls would be even more.

I do have solar but no batteries. I held off on generator or batteries because I was told when I took delivery of my Dream Edition in early March 2022 that V2H was coming very soon. Two years doesn't seem like it fits the description of "very soon" but I'm trying to be patient.

I am wishing for it as well. My current inverters are not compatible with batteries so I’d have to replace a lot of the system in order to get there. V2H is a really good answer for me, although it wouldn’t be used to save money on electricity because I am grandfathered into an early program that does not consider time of use. It would be very useful in the case of a blackout, though. We do have those occasionally especially when there’s high winds and risk of fire. I agree that they did say it was coming quite a long time ago, unfortunately, as you know, lots of things changed since the days of the Dream deliveries. The market, the size of the company, anticipated deliveries, interest rates, etc. I have to believe they’re still developing it because I think it would be a nice thing to release before or with the Gravity. I’ve asked several people but nobody seems willing to talk about it so I’d imagine it’s not coming as soon as we would like.

I really hope you are right Bobby. My intent is pretty much the same as yours. I really don't need V2G but V2H does provide us with a good buffer for future outages. You would think for the electric rates we pay PG&E (and also for you in San Diego) our reliability would be 100% but that is not the case.

SunPower told me the same thing when I approached them for an upgrade to add more panels and a battery system. This was annoying since my original panels were only 3 years old from SunPower w/ the new home construction. I ended up going with Tesla and they just tied the existing SunPower system after the inverter into the same panel with the new Tesla solar panels I added along with the PowerWalls, no one else was willing to look into the possibility of even attempting this. Just FYI, not sure if you tried or if they even offer it, I went through this during the pandemic when I'm sure installs took a hit.
