Gravity V3.5.7

I’m not the one who made you watch them

If it were up to me it would just be a spinner that’s done when it’s done
I remember one of our developers saying how hard it is to make a progress bar work the way you think it should. Everytime I see one struggle to get to 35% and then suddenly say "DONE!" I think of him.

Progress bars are indeed hard.

A very simple example is you have one job with 10 tasks that you must delegate to others, sequentially. You have no idea how long those tasks will take. How do you report progress?

A easy way is to report 10% done for each task. What if the first nine of those tasks take one second but the last one takes one hour? You’ll zip through the first 90% and wait a long time for that last 100% report.

The obvious next step is to have the person in charge of the one-hour task report how many sub-tasks they have - let’s say 10 subtasks - and report back when each sub-task is done. Now, at the top level, you know there are 20 total tasks+subtasks and you can report 5% per task/subtask completed.

Out of those 10 subtasks, let’s say the first nine take one minute and the last one takes 51 minutes. Now you zip through 95% and wait a long time for that last 5%.

This example is ”simple” compared to actual software development. The number of levels of delegation is very large, the number of tasks performed at each level is constantly changing, and the tasks themselves are also constantly changing. It takes a lot of profiling on stable code to find some measurement that correlates to user time.

Unless a smooth progress bar is a necessary product feature, the effort involved isn’t worth it.

This thread is getting into 🧦 territory.

Emad Dlala just said an extensive update is imminent -- already being rolled out to Dream Editions with broader rollout soon to follow.

(Neither of our Dreams has yet received it, but we're usually not at the front of the line for updates.)
Ah thanks for the heads up. So we will simply have to see and wait then.

This posted on Facebook seven hours ago. Anyone have 3.6.0 yet to share the notes?

Has there been any mention of a pause in the roll out of 3.5.7? The Tracker.app has not revealed any additional downloads in the last 24 hours. Also, I haven't really heard much regarding the second OTA drop of the feature download which has been rumored for the next couple of weeks. Just curious.

Can confirm. I have built many progress bars, and all of them have been BS.

The one time I tried building an accurate one I eventually gave up and made it BS. Nobody ever cared.
I like the ones that jump backwards randomly after going forward and then just peg to 95%:)

It could be that 3.5.7 is only applicable to some cars. Or something else.

You can read back a few posts for info on your second question.

I doubt this is the case. The way Lucid's upgrades seem work is in order to get 3.51 you had to have 3.4.4 installed which came like a week after 3.4.1. If you were still on 3.4.1 you could not get 3.5.1 even though 3.5.1 was out. So if you want to get the "big beautiful update" contained in 3.6.0 you will need to get version 3.5.7

I believe 3.5.7 is coming to ALL Gravity as it is a key software structural change that preps car to be able to receive the large 3.6 update. There have been no reports of cars bricking or other issues, so I would not assume a pause in release but rather a slow, purposeful, release, over a couple of weeks. Lucid tends to release in waves, so you may not see any new 3.5.7 releases for a couple days, and then suddenly a big batch over a day or so. Same will be case for 3.6. Patience my young padawans, all will be revealed in time.

Correction: It's not Dream Editions that are getting the early rollout. It's a small group of owners who preview updates to help identify issues and bugs before a broader rollout.

Interestingly I downloaded 3.5.7 a few nights ago and the next day all was well. Yesterday morning when I got in the car I couldn't shift out of Park. I left the car and gave it time
to reset several times but no dice. I then attempted to do a soft reset but got no response. I then closed Apple Car Play and attempted to reset and this time I was successful.
When it rebooted I was able to shift normally. Always a crap shoot with the updates.

Makes sense, they’ve done this with previous updates.

From the screenshot earlier, it appears the owner that got the 3.6.0 update works at Lucid.

The update will come to us in due time.

I did that the other day - went to the car, got in, and it wouldn't leave Park. Played around trying to figure it out before realizing I left the fob in the house. I must have left the car unlocked in the garage (which is unusual, but I had been playing around with it that morning).

Another day I tried using the 2-minute Unlock&Drive button in the app (without carrying the fob) to go get the mail from our community mailbox. When I pull up there I leave the car on, put it in Park, leave the door open to grab the mail, and get back in. I got back in and it wouldn't go into gear! Aargh. Started to panic since I was blocking the mailbox. Thought I was gonna have to leave the car there and run home to get the fob. But then I tried the Unlock&Drive button again and it worked. Apparently if you use that, you have to reuse it again any time you take the car out of Drive.
