Gravity; SUV or Minivan

...I had become totally hooked on them as the most useful vehicle I had ever owned. I didn't give a damn how it looked or what anyone else thought of it. It drove surprisingly well, and I actually thought it looked pretty sharp for something so big and practical.
You're making me feel much more comfortable with the idea of owning a minivan Gravity!

You're making me feel much more comfortable with the idea of owning a minivan Gravity!

I have been posting here for a couple of years that my dream vehicle would be a Honda Odyssey on a Lucid platform. So I would not have minded at all if that's what Lucid produced with the Gravity, except for my concern about the market's reaction to a minivan.

But from the moment I saw the Gravity for the first time at the West Palm Beach studio, I was downright thrilled at what I was seeing: a vehicle with all the utility of a minivan but something that looked decidedly racier in the flesh. (I say "all the utility", but I will miss those sliding rear doors. For the life of me, I can't figure out why they are viewed so dismissively.)

I really wish people would hold off on claiming that the Gravity looks like a minivan until they see one in person. Some will still feel afterward that it looks like a minivan, and if it does to them, it just does. As I posted earlier, David Tracy at "The Autopian" does, and he's no lightweight in assessing cars. But I'm fairly sure many who see the Gravity live and breathing will not see a minivan.

My first input on this question. When I saw it in the studio, which I have twice, it looked more like a minivan to me than an SUV. But now that I've see a few videos and pictures of it on the road, it definitely has more of an SUV look when it's driving around. I can't wait to see one on the road myself.

As an alternative to normal doors (might be hard to open esp with a wide vehicle) and gullwing doors (not so great if you're in inclement weather), maybe Lucid can consider using scissor doors next ;)

Scissor doors long enough for third-row access might be a problem in some garages?

Until I'm in the tres commas club, I'm more than happy to have standard doors.

They did, called it Gravity.

We own a 2018 Odyssey (our second Odyssey), and I've seen the Gravity in person three times at Design Studios and sat in it at one of them.

Now, especially after seeing the recent test drives from Kyle Conner, Jason Cammisa, et al., I have to say Lucid has done one better than "just" fulfilling my dream car fantasy of an Odyssey on a Lucid platform.

I've said it before . . . I don't know what to call it, but the Gravity ain't no minivan. If the likes of Porsche Cayenne and BMW X7 buyers don't seriously consider a switch, they aren't truly serious about the "sport" or the "utility" in Sport Utility Vehicle. Who else makes a 3-row vehicle that can do what we saw David Lickfold do with the Gravity on canyon roads?

I am signed up to get one and saying minivan is not an insult in my book. I need large space in a medium package with good power, no other vehicle can give me that at this time besides Gravity.

But I am seriously considering slapping a Toyota badge on the rear…ordered mine in stealth black.

As someone who is not the least bit embarrassed to have been driving minivans for the last 13 years, I certainly agree calling the Gravity a minivan is not an insult.

I just happen to think the Gravity isn't one. But no worries. We've had long debates on this forum about it, and opinions are all over the place with no truly objective arguments that hold under examination for either side.

Personally, I think the Gravity has clear elements of a minivan, an SUV, and a station wagon without being any one of them. My guess is Lucid calls it an SUV for marketing reasons, as trying to introduce the Gravity under a new category moniker would have been more straw than the camel could handle.

It’s long and low like a wagon with an unmistakable minivan rear hatch. It works for me as I prefer a stealth fast vehicle, regardless of class designation.

For someone who loves minivans and enjoys the gravity for having the utility of a minivan, you’re quite insistent that the Gravity is NOTHING LIKE a minivan 😂

I swear the only people who claim the Gravity is a minivan are non minivan owners.

Did any one compare Lucid Gravity vs Acura MDX or Honda Pilot ?

I don’t mind being called as a mini van’ish but hey Chrysler said they will go all electric version of Pacifica 🤪

Whether 2024 or 2025, some things apparently don't change. :P
Curiosity is what brings us closer to the Lucid enthusiasts 😂
