Gravity Service Appointments and Time In Service

My Polestar is in for a CPU upgrade. It's been 8 calendar days (car was in service for 30 in April, so I'm experienced in this...), so I called to see what the status is. I was told that it is still in line for diagnosis. Apparently, according to service associate, they like to have cars on hand 7-10 days prior to expected service date, so if one or two take less time than expected, the tech won't have to wait for the next customer to get their car in.

Seems like Lucid's approach, as so many of us have written.

So, I'm looking for even a little sense to be made of this. To be clear, I understand if they have loaners up the kazoo and it isn't money out of pocket for rental cars. It seems, however, that many of us rely on rental cars that are paid for by Lucid (or Polestar). Probably not by the dealer, as we all know, but by the manufacturer.

So, Lucid paid $83 per day for my rental recently. Having 7 days of cars available for the tech, that puts 7 cars being rented to not have a tech waiting? If so, that is roughly $560 per day for rentals, with the average rental being for 8 days (presuming each car takes a day for actual hands-on service, which is faster than my Lucid and Polestar have taken). So, to keep it simple, over $4K to keep the rep busy for a day. And, for a car that is drivable, I have to drive a Ford Bronco instead of my GDE?

I don't get the math or the concept. Please help!

When I dropped my Gravity off I was told that their techs were out for training for a few days so it likely wouldn't be looked at until then. In my last update at the end of the week I was told they also had a few techs out sick since then and it still hadn't been looked at. Just peeked at live view and it's still sitting in the same place it's been since last week untouched.

I also got a rental as they didn't have loaners available. The Enterprise rep told me Lucid has a negotiated deal with them to pay $92/day for the highest class of vehicle they have in stock which is why I got a "luxury" class Mercedes EQS first and then a Tesla Model 3 when I had to swap it out (there was a steering problem with the MB). So Lucid has now paid over $700 in rental cost for my car to sit in a parking space at the SC. When I was there last Monday picking the first car up there was a line at Enterprise, of the 7 or 8 people in the small office 4 of us were there getting rentals being paid for by Lucid (two Air owners and another Gravity owner). That's a lot of money Lucid is shelling out for rentals right now because of their overwhelmed service center.

I find this bananas too. I know it’s not limited to Lucid; Mazda did this to me too. I’ve never understood it, but I’ve also never run a service program.

Entirely possible it’s just dumb and “the way things have always been done,” or perhaps there really is some reason, like having idle time somehow costs more than the rental? No idea.

Well my GGT was in 16 days, got an ICE Chevy Equinox for the duration (it was fine). I'm pretty sure it sat for a week too before being attended to based on "Find My Lucid" ;).

During that time, my service advisor was caught in the recent lay offs and no one told me. Explains why they never answered calls or texts.

One of the repair items was to look at a front droning/humming noise when the car goes left. A tech took a ride with me and they acknowledged hearing it. They replaced the wheel bearings on that side and guess what, it still makes the noise. If it is the bearings, usually opposite side replacement is advised. Now they really don't want to look at it again until the drive units get more mileage on them in case they are involved.

First visit there and I'm not so impressed. Told them so in the follow up survey. 😕

Conversely, I had a 2014 Jeep for years that was my daily driver for work and every time it went into service the two Jeep service centers I used always had a loaner for me. Tesla always has loaners too it seems. I wonder if it's just a calculation they make based on the service volume needing loaners and rental cost vs the cost of maintaining a loaner fleet.

I received my car back after 18 days in service. I’ll say that this third round was the best so far in terms of addressing my issues.

They were able to fix most of my issues without screwing something up. The front light bar didn’t get replaced as Lucid is waiting for a revision.

Two weeks later and my Gravity is still just sitting there untouched. I got a text last week saying they were hoping to have it looked at by the end of the week but that didn't happen. Texted asking for an update on Friday and again just now but haven't heard anything yet. Was really hoping to have my Gravity back for a trip next week but it's looking less and less likely at this point. Not sure I want to do this trip in the rental Model 3 either so I might have to end up seeing if I can swap it for something else before then.

I am at day 31 in a row for service this time, for a total of 52 days in service, and 56 days total not drivable. I've owned the car since September.

Service is supposed to be done tomorrow (this is the 3rd due date I've gotten so far so time will tell), So far they've been really good about communication from customer service, and the Service Center is very nice too but incredibly busy. Hopefully they can put a real dealership there in Washington now to take some of the pressure off the Seattle SC.

Finally got a call today that they were looking at my Gravity and asking a few more questions to help troubleshoot it.

Yikes! Your car has been at the Seattle SC for 31 days straight @socktucker ? I brought my Air in for CCC v2 upgrade a little less than 2 weeks ago; now worried about when it’s coming home.

They surely did not need layoffs on top of how slammed they seem to be now!

Yeah 32 or 33 now! Have to check.

Good service center though I really like them. Manager is a great guy. As a whole they are pretty responsive too, no complaints. They just need twice as many people and 20,000 more square feet 😂

I really like them as well, communication has always been great and helpful.

But yeah, they’re gonna need some serious expansion of facilities and staff when the midsize models start rolling out.

Well, not sure what to think. My Gravity had the warning every single day for over a week, every single time I got in to drive the message popped up and stayed there. Dropped it off for service a couple weeks ago and when they finally started looking at it on Tuesday they say they can't replicate it or find anything in the logs. I even sent them a screenshot with a date/time of when it was active but they said there's nothing there. So I'm picking it back up tomorrow and I guess I'll see if it comes back.

My Air has been in the shop again for over a month now, they still haven't fixed it and can't duplicate one issue. I have the issue on video, but I digress.

My driver side door handles don't wake the car anymore, especially with the phone key. They blamed fob batteries first, but i don't use the fob.

...they asked me if I would give them my username and password for my Lucid account so they could try a phone instead. I kid you not. If they are resorting to that, then Lucid is seriously lacking diagnostic equipment for their shops!!

Just picked up my Gravity from service today (Thursday 03/19/2026).
I dropped it off at Tysons Corner SC on Monday 03/16/2026, as was scheduled in Jan 2026.
However, my car sat untouched for 3 days! They were so backlogged with other service requests.

All my service request items below were completed in one (1) day! Way to go, Service Techs.
  1. Realigned Frunk. No longer hesitates when opening.
  2. Realigned Trunk. No longer makes clanking noise when closing.
  3. Realigned Front Fender Corners (Driver & Passenger) with Frunk/Hood.
  4. Replaced Broken Rear Wheel Well Rivets and Realigned with Bumper.
  5. Fixed Non-Flowing Rear Windshield Wiper Fluid.
  6. Released Stuck Passenger Seatbelt.
In the past 3 days, I drove these 3 cars:
  • Air Pure [Loaner] - Insanely efficient and a real driver's car. It easily conquered windy and curvy roads, but too low to the ground for me (ingress and egress).
  • X5 [Wife's] - Was a step down from Gravity. Noisier, Leather Seats were hard and uncomfortable, Steering feel was soft, Steering Wheel felt too big and awkward. However, HUD was perfectly positioned!
  • Model3 [Brother's] - Even a further step down! Couldn't wait to get back into the Air Pure. My Brother loved the Lucid Air, but complained that it didn't have FSD...these Tesla people!
On my way back home from Service Center, I kept missing my exits because I was enjoying my Gravity so much that I zoned out. Truly, the best overall car available today.

that particular warning never came back for me. even on a week long trip over hundreds of miles.

But I have to schedule service anyway, because two of the three issues it went in for last time, frunk never opening right and loud droning noise from the left front when over 60 MPH, were not fixed. dreading to take it in because who knows how long it will be there.

the frunk I could live with, just stand at the front with phone, open from the app and gently "help" lift it open by hand. But the droning noise I'm concerned about, I think the wheel bearings on the right side are slowly failing. Which I told them to look at and they apparently didn't, they just replaced the left. that's not what a typical wheel and tire center would do.

3 days!!?! You got off easy. Seems like a lot of us have had a car sit at an SC for 10-14 days or more before anything happened with them. :)

I was told that Idaho and Utah are going to Rocklin now, and Seattle is doing Pacific Northwest. Perhaps because Seattle can sell cars now. Seattle is good people but they said Rocklin is solid.

Damnit, Rocklin is really quiet. Able to schedule appointments within days and get service done quickly. Now it’s going to get busier.

I assume it's a lack of process management and planning capabilities. More established manufacturers put a lot of effort into service documentation, training, parts supply, and resource planning. The only time my Toyota has been in for service for more than 8 hours is when the job actually required a mechanic to be hands on for multiple days. I can't imagine that Lucid is happy about either the money spent or the negative customer experience.

A follow up. A couple days ago I asked for scheduling service for a few things through the LM website since the app is useless for that location due to the limited time window. (oddly San Jose is still missing from the locations pop-up on the website). I received a call from San Jose today and am getting scheduled. They found a slot for me within a few weeks, which seems early and I assume is because they are repeating on a couple items they’ve already tried to resolve.

Anyway I’m mentioning this because apparently that method works as an avenue to service. Yes I could have called in the first place but I like being able to get my problems written out as opposed to a phone call because more info can be relayed and there is a better record.
