Gravity Service Appointments and Time In Service

I got an email showing a Lucid wallet charge. Once I saw they had gone to a commercial charger, I knew they would have had to use the plug-and-charge feature. My question was why did they tie up an employee to drive the car several miles there and back and sit with the car while it was charging. Perhaps @borski is right that all the L2 chargers at the SC were taken. But the car's not being trucked right away, so there was no particular hurry to charge it as far as I am aware.
It's entirely possible the service center is slammed, they saw it was below 20%, didn't want it sitting there, and went to charge it. "next item on today's checklist" so to speak.

I'm a lot more concerned about them trying to charge it to 100% than I am about paying for a charge. According to the mobile app, the car is sitting outside in a parking lot right now. I keep turning on the A/C to pull the battery down a bit, but someone or something keeps turning it off after a few minutes.
I wouldn't stress too much about this. It won't degrade the battery in any noticeable or significant way over a few days. I understand the annoyance; the reason they do this is precisely to have to charge less frequently if the car has to sit there longer for some reason, waiting on parts or whatever, so that the chargers are less tied up.

From my conversations with Lucid folks, I wouldn't stress too much about it, even if it feels quite annoying. But yeah, you should tell them and have them note your preference for the future, if you haven't already.

Lucid always sets the limit to 100%; I had to have a chat with the Millbrae service team to ask them to note to always set it to 80% for me. They still sometimes forget. This one isn't new.

I do the same thing with the Miami Service Center, and they have been pretty good about complying. I also asked Roswell to keep the limit set to 80%.

I figured Lucid likes to turn cars over to customers with a full charge so that they don't get accused of parsimony. But charging me to replace the charge they used while in service caused me to think that practice may have gone by the boards.

I try not to attribute to malice what is much more likely stupidity. :)

It seems, to me, like just an honest mistake.

(And good use of parsimony! :P)

Part of this is that I'm getting tired of trying to deal with cars constantly in for service. I'd just like to get the car home and be able to use it without worrying about what's going to go haywire next. I'd much rather be here talking about how great the Gravity drives and rides, how great the sound system is, etc., instead of what service issue it's now having.

Totally. That, I cannot and would not argue with. :)

Sorry you have had so many problems.

I’m about to order a 2026 Air GT and I’d like to know your perspective on the Air vs Gravity. The Gravity is great, but the Air seemed like a more capable vehicle in my test drives. The one concern is the Air has DreamDrive Pro while the Gravity has DreamDrive 2 Pro. Also getting in and out of the Gravity is easier.

I've been astonished by how capable the Gravity is on the road. Our Air Dream Performance is stellar, but I think the rear-wheel steering of the Gravity is remarkable in how it tightens the race between the two. When Jason Cammisa, a professional stunt driver, said the Gravity raises the question of whether sports cars are becoming obsolete it wasn't just hyperbole.

I ordered the Gravities on the assumption that we would keep the Air for when we really had the lively driving itch but, honestly, I'm beginning to rethink the need -- and that's comparing our Air on Pirelli high-performance summer tires with a Gravity on all-season tires. I haven't even put our second Gravity on the road yet with the hot new Pirelli PZ5 tires.

In my estimation, you give up virtually nothing in driving dynamics with taking a Gravity over an Air, and you gain a lot in terms of room, entry ease, quiet, and more-evolved UI (at least once they get all the software sorted).

Your situation sucks, agreed. You’ll also be much happier if you don’t look at your Lucid mobile app while it’s in service 🤣.

That would mean abandoning my primary reason for living.

Seems like the service center employee(s) would have noticed your 80% charging limit and gone with that limit.
Plug it in and go with whatever the customer has set for charging.

I was thinking perhaps an employee saw your Florida address and thought you might be driving home and thus needing 100% charge, but I'd like to believe you've had too much communication with them for that to happen.

My guys working at the Mechanicsville sc (aka The Silo) charged mine back to my 80% charge limit, from the 77% it dropped to from my drive to the sc and the three days they had it.
I had to let them know I didn't want the complimentary car wash. I'm pretty sure they weren't going to wash it by hand.

I don't know why, but it has been the policy for years to charge it to 100%. I find it annoying too, but it isn't new.

Maybe your SC is different but I’m certain mine washes it by hand, they have a dedicated car wash bay and I’ve seen them do it. That being said I usually say don’t wash the car cuz it just adds extra time before I get it back haha. Also I wouldn’t characterize their washing as professional auto detailing, but they do take extra care with new delivery vehicles.

Have you seen the picture of my SC!? :)
Dedicated car wash bay!?
Surely you jest!

It's possible they would have hand washed it.
However, like you said, the extra time needed.
They did offer twice to wash.
I'd rather they use that time on the next car.

Maybe Hot Lips Hullahand will come out and wash it!

The Roswell Service Center put in a request Wednesday afternoon to their towing contractor to have our Gravity returned to us. I was told the contractor was required to assign a driver within 48 hours of a request going in, but that it usually didn't take that long. It's now Saturday, and there has still been no response from the tow service. My understanding is that this company is actually a broker who farms out jobs to independent drivers. Maybe they are having trouble finding a driver willing to do an out-of-state transport with no guarantee of a return load?

Meantime, the car is still sitting at a battery charge well above the 80% limit I set even though I've been trying to use the climate control to bring it down.

If this persists into next week I'm thinking about flying up to Atlanta and driving the thing back myself.

I really would not stress about this piece of it. Your battery is not going to degrade in any meaningful way over a few days of sitting at high charge. Just my opinion.

But yeah, call them and get your damn car back :P

I will take one for the team and drive your GDE back for you.

Seriously, the drivers are 1099s and brokered out. Totally sucks because some are terrible and not reliable. There’s no standard.

^. This is/was my concern. If they’re “only” into the triple digits on deliveries - give or take per Nick Twork - it’s disheartening to see the service network so (potentially) overwhelmed.

The window regulator for my Gravity can be replaced via mobile tech. That’s what the mobile tech was going to do, so having to wait 2+ weeks with an inoperable rear door concerns me. I also fell like it’s kind of a safety issue if my kids are back there…

Regardless of Gravity deliveries, I think Lucid as a company has “only” delivered 27,000 cars - and that’s all across the US and KSA. I do hope they continue to invest in their service network. Love the cars, love my Gravity, but really slow service will stop them from growing. “Normal” buyers will not accept long delays for relatively quick fixes. I can deal with it as I knew what I was getting into and the drive is worth it - but there’s only so many of us out there.
Agree

Okay, I’m just going to say it. It sucks to have to accept my frunk just won’t open correctly for at least another 3+ weeks. Can’t schedule through app, so it’s a call back and forth with service center. They’re responsive and helpful and overwhelmed.

I know they’re ramping up, I know there are people (like me previously) who have more severe issues, nevertheless, being afraid to use frunk since we can see the stress on the hood during inevitable first failed attempt to open is disappointing. Same with the driver window not going up until the third or fourth attempt. Yes, easy fix of the seal, but takes forever to get a mobile appointment or in person. And both of these issues have been addressed at least once previously. Ugh.

I know, I should be grateful I don’t have @hmp10’s issues, my fob works (most of the time), etc…but still.

This, above even the bugs, is a huge concern for me.

My car has been in service at KOP since yesterday (well Saturday but they started looking at it yesterday) to address a bad blinker plus some other more cosmetic issues including a non-flush front “Lucid” trim piece.

Anyway, I just got an update saying both the blinker and the trim piece have been replaced, which I thought was worth noting since as far as I know neither of those parts were ordered in advance for me- certainly not the trim piece which I didn’t even mention until the car got there. Maybe this is an indication that parts are in better supply now.

(And yes they updated my key fob too)

Thanks for the update. It is helpful to know.

When did you make the appointment, out of curiosity? Asking from a lead time perspective as it’s very difficult to get an appt with our SC and “minor” issues like you mentioned would be 3+ weeks at best, I think. Hence my annoyance on other threads at not being able to actually get the fob update any time soon.
