If you have or will be ordering a Gravity and it were available in 5-, 6-, or 7-passenger configuration, which would you order?

The 6 seater, and I shared why in the other thread. If I had to make a dream configuration, I would take a 4 seater with the 2nd row moved towards where the third row currently is (like a LWB Range Rover)!

How do you like your EV9? In your opinion, how does the EV9 compare with the Gravity?

You're reminding me of what I loved most about my VW EuroVans -- with the two middle rear-facing jump seats in or better removed, the "third row" bench seat was six feet behind the front bucket seats, super-spacious, super-flexible. Passengers (wife and kids, buddies, kids' buddies) with feet up on coolers back there watching movies on longer trips.

I had the same Eurovan. My kids and the dog loved it! Great for long trips!

Mechanically, the Eurovan is a dog...under-powered and mechanical problems. But the cabin seating and room was great! That said, I kept mine for 26 years.

Having grown up with minivans, first having the bench in the 2nd row then my parents getting one with the captains chairs for the 2nd row…..
I would say the captain’s chairs are better as the flexibility of having the space between the two seats was very nice to have for legroom for those in the back, or for carrying long items/food coolers/access to items in the back during a road trip.
Combined with the fact that I have found that reclining either of the 2nd row outboard seats (if the center seat back does not recline), or trying to recline the seat that isn’t attached to the center seat (ex. 60/40 split), can cause your shoulder to hit/have to curl to fit. This is not pleasant!

I see the 2nd row bench as something for someone that wants to use the Gravity as a people hauler (over short time periods), or doesn’t want to have the third row which makes it basically large mid size crossover then with plenty of interior space! One other advantage of the bench is that middle seat works well for placing items not on the floor.

Wait great idea (in my head) middle seat of the 2nd row bench fold down to floor independently of the outboard seats! Best of both worlds, but more complicated to engineer and expensive of course.

I was about to order on the first day but didn’t since I’d prefer the 6 seat with the captains chairs. I’ll wait.

The impression I get is that captains chairs aren’t coming. I don’t have that with a direct source I’ll name, and don’t bet money on it, but I would be very surprised if they ever show up.

I hear from a sales rep that they do have gravity vehicle prototypes with captains chairs.

And? They made Air prototypes with the executive rear seating that was eventually canned. There are also Gravity prototypes with CCS connectors, but we'll never see those either. If @borski says they'll likely never make it to production, I'd trust him.

Any reason you can tell us?

I was about to place an order for the Gravity, but I have kids with Car Seats and with both car seats installed it would be very difficult to access the back row. I can't wait until the 6-seat configuration is available (if ever).

Nope. Just a hunch. Like I said, I wouldn’t bet money on my statement, but I’m not waiting despite wanting them.

Same here. As much as I want captains chairs, their absence is a non-starter for me.

Rear-wheel steering, on the other hand, once I knew it was coming at some point, I would not have ordered until it was available (at least the hardware accompanied by assurance the software would follow).

I don't think sedan-based SUVs have adequate room (width) to accommodate "Captains Chairs". A simple way of looking at it is to visualize the space between the two front row seats where you have your arm-rest and storage. To a first-order, that's the same width that would be afforded to the ingress/egress space between the two captains chair for the 3rd row access. In reality, it is likely less than that because the 2nd row captains chairs might require arms rests that encroaches on that (already) narrow space. Captain chairs on van/truck-based platforms are more realistic.

While I am a big fan of Captains Chairs (as in my VW Eurovan), in short, I don't think vehicles like the Gravity will ever offer Captain's Chairs because of the space limitation.

The Gravity was teased with captain's chairs, however. I do think you have a point, because both the Air and Gravity had captain's chairs that were unusually close to each other. In fact, there was no gap between them, meaning there is no advantage to entering the third row with it.

The Gravity is 0.2" wider in exterior dimension (w/o mirrors) than the Honda Odyssey minivan: 78.7" vs. 78.5".

The Chevy Tahoe (one of GM's largest truck-based SUV's) is only 2.3" wider than the Gravity: 81.0" vs. 78.7".

I don't think lack of space has anything to do with the Gravity's not offering captains chairs. I think is more likely that Lucid ran into difficulty in figuring out how to get captains chairs with footrests to fold into a flat cargo floor.

If so, would your two Captain's chair fit inside the Gravity with enough passage for ingress/egress? Are you saying, if Lucid eliminates the footrests, it would work fine?

The Tesla Model X has second-row captains chairs between which people can pass to the third row . . . and the Model X and the Gravity are identical in width. So it depends on the design of the chairs more than the width of the vehicle. I suspect that the captains chairs that used to be shown on the Gravity webpage had no room to pass between because they were commodiously wide, unlike the Tesla captains chairs.

All I really know is that the computer rendition of the captains chairs that Lucid used to display on the Gravity webpage showed footrests. When I later heard that the captains chairs would not be available at launch because Lucid had not figured out a way to fold them into a flat cargo floor, I assumed it was because of the footrests, as otherwise they should have been able to fold into the flat floor just as the bench seat does.

BTW, with the "Falcon Wing" rear doors, the Tesla Model X has a hidden advantage when it comes to 3rd row access. Such is not true on the Gravity (and many other SUVs).
