We are nice enough to have an owner volunteer to do an AMA about their ownership experience with the Gravity so far.

Please post a question but also if your question has been asked, please vote it up so the most sought after questions are at the top of the list.

Anything off topic or not a question will be deleted. Keep this organized!

First, about the underfloor storage area where the third row folds down @bryway I think you mean the sub-trunk? I measured the depth in there, and it looks like it's about 11 inches deep. I use this space all the time for groceries.

Exactly what I wanted to know - that grocery bags will fit (standing up, not laying on their side) under the sub floor, and that the subfloor cover will cover that space (without crushing anything) and that more bags / items can then be placed on top of the subfloor cover. Thank you. 🙏🏼

TL;DR Question: Has the lack of an external button to open the frunk frustrated you yet?

My wife has so far been unable to get over them not having a button on the outside to open the frunk. And, honestly, I agree with her.

We have a model Y (no external open button) and a R1S (handy little button to open frunk).

We use the Y's frunk when we travel.
We use the R1S frunk every day.

We might literally use the R1S frunk 100x as often as the Y.

On the Gravity, THEY EVEN HAVE A FRIGGIN' BUTTON ALREADY, it's just only available to close the frunk (I enjoyed the little burst of vitriol in the all caps section).

Would this keep me from buying it? No. I love the idea of getting ~50% more range on 10% smaller battery than the R1S (which is, I should note, far and away my favorite car ever). I love the idea of having slightly more space internally but having it feel smaller and more nimble externally.

But it's pretty irritating because it seems so needless.

@TribbleTrouble and @borski could you folks comment on the DD features and how does it compare to air? Also what do you think about SS pro, compared to air? I understand if these features are still being updated with software updates, etc. But if you are able to share your first impression, that will be super!

I think having a physical key will make a big difference here. We have a 2019 Model X which came with the little homunculus RF keys, and having the key in a pocket means opening the frunk is pretty easy. If IIRC, the Y only has card/mobile access.

You can use a key fob with the Models Y and 3. You just have to buy it separately.

I bought key cards for < $10 for my TSLA on eBay and could add them to the car myself. This is how it should be for a RFID chip IMO. Then again, I'd like my phone to actually work, so I may be a little cray-cray.I do not understand the massive mystery on an RFID chip that still needs a PIN to take the car out of park. LCID needs to seriously re-evaluate their entry and usage experience - it is wrecking a great car.

This is exactly what we do. A Trader Joe’s paper bag fits perfectly in there. :)

Sounds like you’re pretty worked up over this, but no, it hasn’t bothered us at all. The fob button for the frunk (and trunk) works great. 🤷‍♂️

The version of software we are on is somewhat behind the latest; what you see in the DD videos with @outofspeckyle are likely to provide more info about DD than we can. Also, tbh, while I use Drive Assist in my Air for boring drives all the time, I haven’t gotten tired of driving the Gravity yet as I’m still “learning her,” and @TribbleTrouble never uses Drive Assist, ever, even in the Air.

SS Pro is even better than it was on the Air. It’s next-level good.

:-)

I suspect a key difference (pun, ahem, intended) is that neither of us wants to use a fob. One of the wonderful things about our 2 cars is that I no longer have to carry physical keys. We both use the phone as key, with the credit card stashed in wallet as a backup (and house has keypads).

I've never had a car with the foot swipe / kick sensor, but I suspect I could get behind that. Setting up the phone to use voice control to open frunk is an interesting idea, but pulling the phone out, unlocking, and using widget / app is a surprisingly significant pain.

Think of it this way. It sounds like some of you have had problems with Lucid's phone as key, as I have to some extent with the Rivian. The time to take the phone out and unlock the car is not the end of the world, but it's gone from easier than an old-school key to harder than an old-school key.

And pulling the phone out to unlock the car is the same as doing so to open the frunk.

Anyway, if this is my biggest problem with Gravity it would be quite a win...

Only thing I ask for in a car these days is to walk up to it with my iphone in my pocket, have it unlock so I can let my wife in and then be able to drive it without looking like an idiot in the rain figuring out how to get in for 5 minutes, fumbling on my phone, then a criminal needing to enter a PIN to drive it. TBH I really don't even care if it locks when I'm away for these basic conveniences (yeah I know that is sad)

I'm learning this is a lot harder with my air than it seems apparently? hopefully gravity fixes this.

Is this really so hard?

What it really needs is the "foot swipe"/"kick sensor" opener other brands have so you can open it with your hands full.
Very underrated comment/suggestion here. My current Audi has this feature and I use it almost exclusively to open AND close the trunk. My previous car (BMW M4) also had this feature to open the trunk.

I was hoping the Gravity would have this feature (though I'm pretty sure it won't). That being said, (and please correct me if I'm wrong)...but I believe I read a while back that Tesla added this as a new feature via a software update...which means maybe it could be developed--though tbh I'm not sure exactly what hardware sensors Audi and Tesla use for this feature and if that's already in place in the Gravity.
