Gravity Orders Discussion

I’m hopeful that some of us might get a email from Lucid about gravity tomorrow (Wednesday). Just a feeling. Fingers crossed
Keeping fingers crossed is smart. I wouldn’t advise holding your breath at this stage 😂

Planning way ahead here, but I have been emailing with PlugShare to add a NCAS port to the 2025 Gravity vehicle config. As of today, it is now active. I'll see about getting ABRP to add Gravity next.
We have some graduations to attend in May and June so I'm exploring a few road trips with Gravity in case we get lucky on availability. 🤞

You're prescient, but probably not in the way you were hoping:

I've almost lost interest in following any discussion about Gravity deliveries.

I have to drive over to Miami later this month to drop some friends off for a cruise, and I called the two Miami studios to see if there was any prospect of their having a production Gravity on hand to view or test drive by then -- which will be almost two months after the first Gravity "customer deliveries".

Both studios are getting one of the prototypes back in for viewing in the next week or so, but I've already seen them three times. One studio has no idea when they'll get a production car in for viewing or test driving, and the other studio said they were told it would be near the end of Q1 before they got a test driver in.

Rawlinson said that the next Gravities to come off the assembly line after the December deliveries would be destined for the press and Lucid showrooms before any other customers got delivery. If the Miami studios aren't getting any of those builds until late March, I think it's pretty clear we're still a few months away from any true customer deliveries.

I may be dead wrong, but I've pretty much landed on the view that something is holding up production, even allowing for the slow ramp that was planned and announced.

Based on your end of Q1 showroom deliveries and a rumor circulating on Reddit, it seems that customer deliveries might not happen until June or July. This appears rather absurd, considering at thst point it would be eight months since the start of production, and customers should be receiving their vehicles by now, albeit in small amounts while ramping up.

Considering their theories, I’m undecided about the accuracy of June or July as the intended start of deliveries. However, last week’s 2026 “error” on the website has raised some intriguing questions. Was it an intentional mistake, or did someone inadvertently reveal the delivery timeline? If June or July is indeed the correct date, it could be definitely be classified as a 2026 model.

The silence surrounding the delivery timeline only leads me to believe that there might be some underlying issues. Lucid seems to be attempting to buy themselves time by prioritizing showroom deliveries and press cars over actual customer deliveries. Let’s say they have 5,000 orders for the Gravity model, why would they not focus on fulfilling those orders first? The primary objective should be generating revenue, not simply having cars sitting in showrooms owned by Lucid. While showroom cars cater to those who want to experience and drive the vehicle, it’s evident that not all initial customers will be interested in this aspect. Out of the 5,000 orders, there are likely individuals who are content with receiving their vehicles and not having the opportunity to see or drive them in a showroom setting. In such cases, Lucid can secure the much-needed revenue by fulfilling these orders.

I was planning a road trip in March / April and thought that was ample time to have been doing it in the Gravity. As each day passes it’s becoming evident I was wrong.

I don’t know that everyone should be caught up in the model year and was it a mistake or not. According to an article by Car and Driver…

“Under Environmental Protection Agency rules, manufacturers can introduce a next-model-year vehicle for public sale as early as January 2 of the preceding calendar year—for example, a 2024-model-year vehicle can be sold starting on January 2, 2023.”

So anything delivered from January 3rd of this year on, can be called a 2026.

The only thing I'd be weary about is I have not been able to find any 23" winter tires

I stopped by the Legacy West studio over the weekend to check out samples of the interior colors. I'm still torn between Yosemite vs Ojai. I like the light color better but I'd prefer real leather as I suspect it's more durable and I'm not thrilled about having a fabric armrest on the front seat doors. First world problems, I know.

I had a lengthy discussion with one of the employees. He told me their studio was scheduled to be one of the first to receive their demo Gravity in "the next week or two" and they actually have the VIN number for the vehicle (which will be Aurora Green/Yosemite). I was told as soon as they receive it, customers will be able to sit in the vehicle-- though test drives would not begin to until March.

I also asked him if I placed an order when I could expect to receive the vehicle...to my surprise he said "in about 6-8 weeks". I then asked about lunar titanium "late availability" and he said he had no info on when that color will start shipping or why it's not available out of the gate.

Btw, this employee has actually been to the Lucid factory, seen the assembly line, and has personally driven a Gravity and said it was awesome to drive.

I've had the "vegan leather alternative" in my Tesla for 8 years now, the ones with all of the many holes for "ventilation". I can't say for sure that it is the same material, but they feel the same.

I eventually had the driver's seat show signs of abrasion after 7 years - apparently my 260lb butt plopping into it and doing a 90 degree twist to face the steering wheel many thousands of times eventually took its toll. I'm not sure there would have been an issue if it wasn't for the thousands of tiny holes.

When I took it in for replacement they recommended replacing both seats so they would match, but I decided to just do the driver seat and there is no difference in appearance between any of the other seats and the brand new driver's seat. And, other than the coin sized abrasion, the other parts of the driver's seat looked brand new as well.

So, other than the excessive wear for being "that body type that my doctor uses vicious terms to describe", they have held up quite well.

I should add that every car I've ever had for more than 3 years with leather seating eventually showed creases that could not be smoothed out. I'd rather have the risk of an abrasion after many years of ownership and a super-soft material to sit on, than the creases you get in leather.

I'd not be too quick to dismiss the Purelux material. Some of the new synthetic materials are remarkable. When we ordered home theater seating over seven years ago, I decided to follow the manufacturer's recommendation and go with their synthetic leather-like material over the Nappa leather. The synthetic material was actually more expensive. It is buttery soft, does not get hot or cold to sit on, cleans easily and, after years of heavy use, still looks brand new.

I also suspect the fabrics Lucid uses in the interior are very durable. I keep finding my right knee rubbing against the covering alongside the Pilot Panel on our Air, causing me to worry that I'm going to wear it out. But after over three years and 30,000+ miles it still looks pristine.

The Aurora Green / Yosemite and the Lunar Titanium / Tahoe Gravities that have been on the Lucid Studio circuit for a while are still making the rounds. The two Miami showrooms (where I've seen both) are getting the green one in again next week. The Miami showroom today confirmed it's one of the prototypes, not a production vehicle. They do allow people to sit in it, but it can't be test driven. It would likely have a VIN. I don't know for sure, but I strongly suspect that's what's coming to the showroom near you.

The development of creases and a patina have long been viewed as desirable traits of good leather. However, the advent of nice looking synthetic leathers that don't develop such characteristics seems to have caused a shift in attitude, with signs of well-tended wear on premium leathers now sometimes seen as a fault.

Our 3-year-old Air is just now beginning to show the first signs of creasing (only in the driver's seat), and I actually welcomed it as a sign that the leather was wearing as good leather should.

The sales person implied this was actually going to be a new, production vehicle, not one of the similar prototypes that has been floating around (I previously saw the Lunar Titanium/Tahoe prototype at that location). This is also supposedly the vehicle that will ultimately be doing test drives in March after they receive it. The delay between receiving this production demo unit and allowing for test drives again leaves me to ponder if the true hold up is on the software side (either squashing bugs or adding the last few features).

Are you talking about Legacy West studio in Plano? I texted my contact there and attached is the response I received. Basically no confirmation is what they said. Surprised that folks in the same studio, assuming we are referring to the same is providing different responses!

“ Hey there, simply rumor for now. Nothing that’s been confirmed by leadership as of yet. We’re all hoping of course, but no official news. ”

Yes, same studio in Plano. I guess this confirms the one thing we do know for a fact: Communication internally at Lucid is poor! 😂 😅

I knew you were being lied to when you were told 6 to 8 weeks if you ordered today. 😂
