Gravity Orders Discussion

The car in the headline picture in that electrek article looks like the "Late Availability" Lunar Titanium exterior? Or is it just Stellar white with odd lighting?

That's probably the Lunar Titanium Dream Edition that was at the L.A. Auto Show (as well as the Aurora Green GT) and that we saw in the West Palm Beach and Miami/Brickell Studios. It's been making the rounds.

I noticed that the next car behind the first that rolled off also appeared to be the Lunar Titanium color.

Looks like another Aurora Green to me 🤷🏻‍♂️

It looks like several are directly behind the first one. I wonder how many they’re producing per day.

Do we know if they are producing Air and Gravity on the same time or separate production lines simultaneously?

The order configurator says Lunar Titanium is not yet available to order, so I doubt that's the color in the shot. After seeing both the Lunar Titanium and the Aurora Green in person and having seen and photographed the other Gravity colors in inside and outside lighting, I have found some of the colors can look vastly different in different lighting.

For instance, these are all shots of Lunar Titanium:

If you are referring to the photo at the top of the Electrek article (and not the video on X), then it appears to be one of the pre-production models they were shipping to showrooms around the country. It looks identical to the one I saw in the Scottsdale, AZ design center as well as the one you see in all the stock photos and on the website. Looks like Lunar Titanium with Platinum to me.

I believe that Gravity is on a separate production line in the AMP-1 factory expansion they completed this year. Not 100% on this.

The video on X of the first Gravity rolling off the production line was just the end of the video. Here is a slightly longer video of Vin 001, which is most definitely Aurora Green with a Tahoe interior.

Yikes. Someone posted this photo of the Aurora Green Gravity in a Lucid studio:

I've seen loads of photos of this color as well as seen the actual car in a showroom under artificial lighting. It appears to be very chameleon-like in its tendency to pick up the hues of its surroundings.

So far, I'm sticking with the choice of green on my order, but I would really, really like to see Gravities in Aurora Green, Supernova Bronze, and Lunar Titanium in outdoor lighting. I think all these colors can shift significantly in different conditions.

The color accuracy, white balance, etc. in this photo are terrible, so no need to panic even though this looks like 💩. My sales rep told me that anyone who paid a deposit would be offered a test drive when Gravities (Gravitys?? ;)) arrived in showrooms in Q1, so hopefully we'll know more soon. It's certainly true that, at a minimum, Aurora Green and Lunar Titanium shift a lot in photos, but that could just be the camera sensor getting confused.

I figured that was part of it. But fwiw, the same post on which I saw this photo included two other photos of the car in the same showroom from different angles that were nowhere near this weird.

I also think part of it has to do with the undulating lines of the Gravity which, just like with the Air in some colors, can reflect the sky, pavement, and lateral surroundings simultaneously to a greater extent than some vehicles, thus creating a slight kaleidoscope effect. For instance, note the gray ceiling above that green Gravity which is getting picked up in the car's reflections. Something similar happens with our Zenith Red Air which can look almost black and almost ruby red at the same time. I've owned several cars that have caused people to walk up and ask me about them. The Air is the first one where people usually mention its color in the discussion, including one episode where all the guy wanted to know about was where I got it painted to create such striking effects.

I watched it at 2x speed. Learned a few new things, but still waiting for a review that shows off the UI and new Dream Drive Pro features.

Last night I looked in YouTube for Gravity videos. I searched for “Lucid Gravity”, then using the filters I set it to videos released “today”.

To my surprise the search came up with about half a dozen video “reviews” of the Gravity, but they are not the actual Lucid Gravity. The videos were of a totally different car although it said Lucid. They were mock ups. I bet it was just for click bait.

Just letting you know.

Yes, there are a lot of these. Clearly click bait. I've been reporting these videos as misinformation to YouTube. More votes will help.

The OOS Gravity review is live! Posting here before I watch it, so no comments yet.
A few notes for those who find Kyle too long-winded to watch ;) Note: this was a pre-production unfinished mule, not one off the production line.
First, some details that were not previously published or were vague:
  • 120 kw usable battery capacity
  • new cell chemistry supposedly enables faster charging and a better curve than Air. Max rate: 350kw.
  • 450 mi range (20/21 wheels & Evo tires)
  • adaptive headlights (future)
  • 2-level motor mounts reduce NVH compared to Air (motor whine)
  • rear wiper
  • configurable drive modes (future)
  • adjustable current limiter for on-board charger
  • rear steering uses dual actuators
Overall impressions:
Positives:
  • Overall, best SUV
  • Best packaging (by a large margin)
  • Comfortable and smooth
  • ... but also great handling and sportiness
Concerns:
  • Software completeness and maturity
  • Fast DC charging at 400v - still supposedly fixed but no details; NACS plug but no Tesla supercharger access yet (adapter required to fast charge)
  • DAS (not working in their demo car; still behind others, esp. Tesla)
