Gravity Bugs / Issues

I have a Gravity Grand Touring on order. But I live more than 200 miles from the closest service center. Am I crazy to take delivery considering all the issues and how far I am from a service center?

I think the key is to find out about Lucid Mobile Service in your area. How close is it to you? How many mobile technicians are based there?

Both the Lucid Service Centers in Florida are on the east coast, and we live on the west coast about 130 miles from the nearest one. But in the almost four years we've owned an Air, we have found the mobile service, which is based in a nearby town, to be excellent. Our tech has given us his direct cell number so that he can answer questions and sometimes schedule appointments without our having to go through "Lucid Central". They keep a large local storage unit supplied with the most frequently-needed parts, so often the mobile tech shows up with a part he anticipates needing for our service visit already on his truck.

On a road trip a couple of years ago we had an issue with the Air in North Carolina, a state with no Lucid Service Centers. We were put in touch with a nearby mobile technician, and he provided prompt and excellent service, even following up with us by phone to be sure everything was okay as we continued our trip.

We've also had to have our Air and now our Gravity taken to a Lucid Service Center on several occasions. As long as the issue is warranty-related, Lucid picks up the vehicle at our house, leaves a loaner if requested, and returns the vehicle when done.

In short, our owning Lucids without a nearby Service Center has been no issue at all for almost four years.

Yeah that’s a huge contributing factor as to why I’m loyal to Lucid. My March 2022 GT put me on a first name basis with everyone at the service center haha, but in every instance they minimized my inconvenience and solved some pretty complex problems so I have confidence in their abilities without reservation. Yeah it would be nice if their cars were consistently more reliable (and I say “consistently” because many owners I know have had very few if any problems with their car), but Lucid knows this and they do work hard to solve issues so even if the service center was 200 miles away that wouldn’t deter me from owning one.

You need your seals adjusted. Workaround for the future: open the door, then close the window, then close the door. Alternatively, after it fails to close 3 times, you’ll be able to manually hold the button to make the window go up and it should close, but the automatic function won’t work until the next time when it fails again.

It’s a quick fix for the service team. We had this on the GT.
None of this works. After closing last night - it’s now just stuck half open and unresponsive. Boo. On a road trip, so someone gets wind and now have to have front window open to avoid annoying sound. Once we park, it will get a nice bag over it to protect from rain. Could be worse, but bummer for a six figure car in first road trip…

If your wife can wait a year, I'm convinced the Gravity will be the best people/cargo hauler on the planet across all the key dimensions: room, ride, handling, power, efficiency, and (eventually) reliability. The design, engineering, and structural bones of the Gravity are simply superb.

But, as I learned with our Air Dream Performance and now our Gravity Dream Edition, a Lucid is not a car anyone should consider buying in the early months of production unless they have a very high tolerance for a very large number of service visits. Lucid will stick by you and make the car right, but it will take a lot of work and patience on both ends.
You are right @hmp10 . It is not for everyone. You have to be a bit of an optimist/glass-half-full and a bit mellow/“it’s ok” type of person.

“Will I be ok with it?” This is what I keep asking myself. I already changed my config to one that releases later in the year.

Perhaps Lucid should release a Myers Briggs type personality test for Gravity buyers with a sign that says “you must be this tall to ride” 😆

Valuable information!! Thanks for sharing!

I wrote Fortran on IBM Hollerith cards! Sequence numbers are your friend when you drop a deck 😊
Same as many of you - FORTRAN on punch cards in school (punched my own), then a ton of assembler (mostly math libraries) and pascal for embedded software early in my career.

have you tried just pushing it up while having someone use the btuton at the same time?

To put it bluntly that sucks and is embarrassing. I’m still feeling hopeful as I also read the Volvo EX90 Reddit and that car has been plagued with a whole hellscape of issues that make Gravity issues seem minuscule, but the EX90 lately has improved quite a bit, so I think within a few weeks to months these facepalm Gravity moments will feel like a distant memory. But yeah as @hydbob said the method of having your hands on both sides of the glass forcing it upward while a second person raises the window switch is a fix that worked for Air when Air briefly had an issue with a stuck window.

Wow - punched your own! We actually had a punch card machine where we typed and it punched the cards for us 😜

This is the sad reality of all these new and connected cars. You just need to read the forums of many new EV's and they all come with quirks that take time to resolve. If you don't have patience then you need to be prepared to wait 12 months or longer into a production cycle to avoid early teething issues. It's the same story in other forums as well, some people get a reliable vehicle and others get one that has a number of issues so people need to go in being prepared for that. You may get lucky but if you get unlucky it's the risk you took.

Is it right? no, but it seems to be the new reality that people need to get used to when it comes to new EV models. Even Tesla with a solid decade of production now still has issues. The CyberTruck launched with no FSD and I don't think they're even offering it now plus they did a bunch of buybacks along with a bunch of recalls.

Our fob hasn't worked at all in the past 24 hrs. I suspect the battery has also died. I'll try replacing the battery this weekend.

If this is true, I suspect we are going to see an influx of users who have FOB issues who just need to change their batteries.

Yeah, give it a try. Mine has worked every time today so far since changing the battery yesterday, so 5 out of 5 at this point. If 🤞🏾it gets thru the rest of the day and weekend, I'll say for sure it was the issue that I was having.

I have not, but now that we’re at the destination, I will try.

To their credit, Lucid called and set up a home service appointment for first thing Monday morning, so I can address window, frunk, etc. Service was extremely responsive.

To be clear, I am posting for the benefit of letting others know about an issue in case a) it can help them or b) I can be helped.

I am not upset or complaining and came to Gravity eyes wide open 100% as it’s my third early adopter experience (first two with Tesla)…frustrating, but still love the car and realize I could’ve waited for delivery…but that wouldn’t be much fun! 😉

I read manual, but where IS the battery cover? Last thing I need is to break the fob while replacing the battery. Very obvious on Air fob but not on Gravity (to me).

Did you follow the clean room instructions from the manual? Wow, did not realize I’d need tweezers or something… 😆

“Avoid touching the flat surfaces of the new battery, if possible, as fingermarks can reduce battery life.”

I’m all for people listing out issues for others to be aware of etc. for the exact reasons you mention but it’s the pile on that takes place with people saying “this is unacceptable” etc. when they don’t even own the car. It’s clear, some cars are having more issues than others but assumptions are being made that the moment an issue gets reported that it’s a problem with all Gravity’s and that’s simply not true.

:) Yes... this is why new batteries (button cells) sometimes have a small plastic sticker on the bottom that you have to peel off before using. Same for when you buy some devices (e.g. on Amazon) that comes with a battery, they put a little plastic thingy that you have to pull out before using the device for the first time. This is because even when "off", these devices consume very very small amounts of current... and that can eat into the battery life.

Similar thing happens with the human body - very small amounts of current flows through your body if you hold the two battery terminals (current increases if your palms are sweaty... knees weak... arms are heavy  🎤sorry couldn't resist...)

I'm going to have to second that. Reading through this thread makes it seem like the Gravity is a complete full-blown 5 alarm disaster. I can happily report that (maybe luckily) my Gravity is great with no real problems. *knock on wood*.

Also a bad idea to get mom’s spaghetti on the battery. Thanks Eminem… 😉

Thank you @DrZorro ... please keep posting these "goodies" every once in a while... gives me hope :) (did I say I was an optimist?)
