I would love to use native apps as well. But since Lucid is missing a lot of the standard ones (Apple Music, YouTube Music) CarPlay is the only option. I’ve been streaming from my phone, but it’s a pain to start it every time I get in the car.

I just installed the new APP and I thought there was going to be a way to play YouTube but there is not. My previous Tesla had YouTube in the basic system allowing me to watch YouTube videos while charging or waiting at an appointment, etc. It would not allow video to play once you put car in gear and that was no problem.

That’s the Tesla OS- that was put on there for you to use while supercharging (or Netflix and video games)
CarPlay and AA are really designed to be driving apps like music, text, and navigation. It was never EV focused so it doesn’t consider fast charging stops
 
@marqie first of all, I’d like to thank the Lucid team for listening to us and finally adding the long-awaited CarPlay and Android Auto!

Overall, everything works beautifully. However, my inner perfectionist won’t let me enjoy it. On the contrary, it’s actually painful to look at this:

Is there any way to replace this "wonderful" blue background image with a solid black color?

I’m split. I actually like Lucid’s native maps app much more than apple’s (unpopular opinion, I know), but in terms of UI, I do like the giant buttons and wish Lucid would improve that for its interface—I often have to make multiple attempts to click the ride height button mid-drive to pull up the drop down list and then successfully hit LOW. They’re just a little too small for me while driving. But I think in general I don’t miss Apple CarPlay for anything other than Apple Music. If Lucid had a great Apple Music app integration I wouldn’t even bother. Also, the sound quality plugged into CarPlay was a noticeable improvement for me over Bluetooth. Haven’t tried it wirelessly yet.

Day-um!
Everything just worked, smoothly, perfectly. Wipers seemed much improved. CarPlay activation a breeze. Can only imagine if Lucid had launched Gravity with this level of software maturity.

Unfortunately seems like AC charging issue still here for those following that issue (@GravitMe iirc ). The GT on 3.5.1 on my home 48A charger, starting at ~30% SOC held 11kw for 30-40 minutes and dropped to 7kw. The DE still is able to hold 11kw for entire multiple hours charging sessions though. cc @marqie if this is something you can potentially help confirm or check on please 🙏

The only option I have is to use a wallpaper from my phone. So, the only way I found to have a black background on my screen is to set a black image as a background on my phone and then turn on "Use phone's wallpaper". But yeah, it's an AA-related issue.

Yeah, as someone rooting for the company, it's kind of depressing to think about how many people have permanently written off what is honestly a would-be game-changer. This software feels good. Only thing its missing for me is deeper integration with the BMS for preconditioning using apple maps, but I'm happy enough.

They still have some missteps that I think would have stopped higher adoption like the way they tied up features that honestly should have been standard like heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, 120v outlets, and built-in towing capability across 6 nickel and dime packages that make the car feel like a poor value unless you're cross shopping with MB or Porsche. But I wonder if they had delayed release until now what the narrative would have been? Haha I know the owners on here would be freaking out for sure! 😅🤪 Oh well. For now, I'm glad they have a much more solid experience on their hands. They just need to figure out their service experience 😬

VLC has a CarPlay app. But only for audio. Apple actively blocks video via CarPlay, for safety reasons.

Once upon a time there was TrollStore and CarPlex; you could also jailbreak your phone if you’re feeling saucy.

Or buy an android box.

This is an Apple limitation; CarPlay does not allow the playback of video, period.

But yeah, on iOS it’s just a setting within the CarPlay interface.

I think I saw someone link the android box in a different thread. I don't get the limitation on the phone vs the android box. Why can one play while the other cant? Is the android auto on the phone itself stopping plex from displaying?

Yes. Apple (and Google) disallow the playing of video while connected to CP/AA.

And, a thing most people don’t fully understand is that CP and AA are simply projections of your phone onto a different screen (with a different layout). Thus, anything you do “in CarPlay” is actually happening on your phone, in real-time.

So it is the phone that is blocking video playback while connected.

The solutions to this are:
1) give in, because they’re right and it is safer,
2) jailbreak your phone so you can do whatever you want,
3) buy an android box which is already jailbroken.

Bear in mind that anything you do on a jalbroken android box may also be sending and/or sharing your data with “someone,” and many of the companies making these are shady. That said, we used one in our Ioniq 5 and it worked fine, though we only used it to get wireless CarPlay (2023 and earlier was wired-only).

Actually that is not true. As of iOS 26.4, CarPlay does support video streaming apps. The catch is that both the video app and car need to support CarPlay video streaming. I believe Apple calls it “Video in the car” and it is referred to on their CarPlay page for developers.

Neat! As of today, it’s definitely still true, as 26.4 isn’t out yet in GA, but you’re right!
