Gravity 3.5.1

Yesterday I got the rear steering failure error for the first time.

Today the driver window did the up then he half down thing for the first time in months.

Nothing ever seems to get fully fixed, it just becomes less frequent.

Hey but Android auto and carplay work!
I'm actually a bit surprised by how well it works actually. Occasionally my Android Auto won't connect and I have to cycle bluetooth on the car, then it connects immediately.

Chatting with Gemini while driving is amazing!

Overall, it's much more stable than on my BMW, although the BMW screen is quite a bit larger.

Does it close if you do it with the door open and then close the door with window up?
Well, a couple times I did that and went to close it and it wouldn't...like if I pushed the window might bend/break. I'm going to try Borski's advice tomorrow. Hope it works...

The solution to all these software errors is to just do a hard reboot everytime you move the car. It will save you a lot of aggravation, especially with false errors.

Anyone wants to downgrade from 3.5.1? 🙃

You need your seals adjusted. This isn’t a software issue. There are two workarounds:

1. Open the door, then close the window, then close the door. It will work fine.

2. Do it three times, and on each it’ll bounce back down. On the third (or fourth, can’t remember), hold it, and it will seal.

But the solution is service.
After a call to service center, I learned a couple things that may be helpful in case others have this issue with the window not closing/bumping the top and staying open:

I tried the above and everything else I knew (reset windows w switch, reset car, deep reset of car, etc) and nothing was working. As I tried things, the window became totally unusable and wouldn't even move anymore. So I called service and a couple things:
-If you click the window button too many times, it causes the regulator to overheat since it's sending voltage with every click. So if this happens, let it sleep for ~30 minutes to cool down. It became responsive again after I did this.
-The 2nd point is important: When you put the window all the way down to reset it, you can't push the switch all the way to automatically roll down. You must do the half click to manually roll it down. Only then can you do the hold down for :10 to reset.

I'm still not sure this is actually fixed but at least I now know the reset to get the window to close if this happens again. Mobile service is ordering a new regulator in case this goes wonky again.

The 10 second window reset is new to me. Am I understanding it right that you first open the window all the way by using the switch in the manual position (halfway pressed until fully open), then you press it all the way down for 10+ seconds?

What does a window reset actually do?

Correct. The reset will only work if you manually lower the windows down by pushing 1/2 way. I also confirmed this with my mobile tech after doing it. I'm guessing that the reset adjusts various settings: speed, sensitivity for safety, maybe how much it rolls down when door opens/closes.

This is fairly typical on a car with Auto Open/Close full up/down windows. Everytime an ICE version had the battery disconnected it had to be done.

Yup. Happened to me on my Mazda too.

Has anyone else had their lower control screen start flashing after a reboot? A second reboot cleared it, but that was worrying!

Whhaaaaa? The designer's job is literally to prevent things like this.

We had a window-not-closing issue today that was fixed with a steering wheel reboot. I get that all of these systems need limit calibration, but that this is not automatically done continues to be ridiculous.

What's even more ridiculous is how quickly some people accept and justify these embarrassing failures on a $100k+ luxury vehicle, even granting it awards and praises.
The culture of participation trophies has made its way from kindergartens to car manufacturers. Congratulations all around 👍
No need to respond with "it's hard to make a car" and "others are even worse", it's been beaten to death....

I often describe it as Lucid doing the hard things really well, but the easy things poorly.

The physical design of the Gravity is amazing. Huge space stuffed everywhere you look (and some you don't look), all in an outside footprint that's not huge. The powertrain is amazing. The range is amazing. Charging speed is amazing. Handling is great. It's (mostly) smooth and quiet, befitting a luxury car. Massaging leather seats are a dream.

But then there's so much "easy" stuff that many $40,000 vehicles do better. All the software bugs. A HUD that makes people wish they'd never wasted money on it. Certain features that I still scratch my head on how they left them out (SXM antenna, liftgate kick, PAAK (although that's coming), etc). And so on.

It's a real dichotomy.

It will eventually get to the point of "it is what it is". We'll get used to the stuff that's a fail and just learn to do without them. An exercise in compromise. That's easier to accept on a $40k car than a $110k car, but we'll eventually get there. This is where this forum actually hurts some, as we keep reminding ourselves of all the fails rather that just ignoring them. 😏

I agree there are all sorts of weird regressions in 3.5.1, particularly around the key fob, the random systems warning or going offline until a reboot, and the window behavior. It's a bit exhausting. It feels like someone is trying to vibe-code the car. "Claude, the windows won't go back up again." "Oh, you're absolutely right! I changed the window software to the previous version, and to ignore last calibration when it's a full moon. Sorry about that, I'll change it."

Our 2019 Model X would randomly black and reboot all the screens every few weeks to months for the first two years we owned it. That was unsettling. We never had constant glitchy instability, though.

Lucid is lucky that the Gravity drives so well and has a solid, comfortable interior! Otherwise I'd be less likely to put up with the software. It makes it hard to recommend to non-tech folks, though.

Speaking of "regressions in 3.51" does anyone else have "Standard" Dream Drive around here? Did you notice the significant change to the Parking Screen with the update?

I prefer to drive such a lovely-driving car so I spec'd the base DD.

The GGT has (no less than) four video-feed cameras, and the Owner's Manual indicated the base DD includes "Surround View Monitoring." It never occurred to me that I would only be able to access the four cameras when the vehicle is locked and I am not in it (aka "Live View Beta".)

Previously in the Parking screen top view you could see just about 6 inches around the car -- enough to see parking stripes to the sides, or the carefully placed rubber mat to the front in my too-tight garage. That tiny slice of surrounding video feed was entirely deleted with the 3.5.1 update.

Now all I get are the distance indicators, front & rear, and the rear camera view. Distance indicators seems to be +/- 6 inch accuracy, which is maddening when I need to park precisely in order to close my garage door -- while being able to open my dryer door!

Page 122 of the manual states the Dream Drive "parking experience" features include:

Parking Experience

- Automated Park In (Premium)

- Automated Park Out (Premium)

- Rear View Monitoring

- Park Distance Warning

- Surround View Monitoring

- Rear Parking Protection

NOTE: (Premium) These features are available with DreamDrive Premium and above.

The “Surround View Monitoring" is not indicated as a “Premium and above” feature so it should be part of the “Standard” Dream Drive. I've contacted Customer Care about the discrepancy between the manual & the actual features and the reply completely ignored that I am raising the issue of a misrepresentation in the Owner's manual:

this is a software-related topic, and Customer Care does not have direct visibility into feature scope changes, software design decisions, or roadmap details for DreamDrive packages.

Isn't every issue with this vehicle a "software related topic"?

You're right, there is absolutely no way we can possibly have two things be true at once. It cannot both be the best designed SUV and also have some problems. That would be absurd! Clearly, it must be either perfect, or crap.

I'm not trying to pick on you; it is just obviously untrue that you cannot hold two ideas in your head at once.

The culture of participation trophies has made its way from kindergartens to car manufacturers. Congratulations all around 👍
Astute. As an alternate option, consider that there are pros and cons, and the market doesn't have many competitors with as many pros and as few cons.

No need to respond with "it's hard to make a car" and "others are even worse", it's been beaten to death....
K. I wouldn't, since those are bad arguments.

Your "others are even worse" bit is a strawman though, as that has never been the argument made. Something can win an award for being the best of what it is, which would, by definition, mean that by those metrics, the other options are worse. That doesn't mean the top option is perfect. That was never the argument.
