You have to park in a sketch area...

Just curious about people's experience particularly when parking in sketch areas either to go eat for several hours or to visit a friend overnight (street parking). Sketch areas as in there are homeless people nearby or street has history of car parts getting stolen. If I get an Air it will be my first luxury car by a huuuge margin.

First and current car is a $20k Mazda 3 since 2013. I have no worries parking it anywhere legal as 95% of the time there are more expensive cars parked nearby and also if something happens it won't be such a big loss or cost to repair. With an Air though it'll likely be THE expensive car 95% of the time.

I was reading some comments online that if I'm worried about such stuff that perhaps I shouldn't be getting a car with such price tags. I've looked at all other EVs but not interested in any of them due to range. Prices are going up not just for the Lucid so it's quite all or nothing for me at this point.

Thoughts? How do you approach the situations above? How much do you worry?

One advantage is people don't know the brand and how much the car really is so may not be a target like Tesla's have become but it's still a worry for me. I used to park the car away from others to avoid dents etc. but found people would be hovering around the car taking pics, looking inside etc. so now just park with everyone else to avoid drawing unwanted attention. I won't park next to a beaten up old car but generally next to cars that are looked after.

I've had multiple friends tell me though that they will be surprised if the car doesn't get keyed at some point which is a little concerning.

I am in the Grandfather age group, and yes, I am concerned about too much attention on the Air by the "Usual Suspect". However, why would anyone even think about going to such places ? Take an Uber.

Best to mix in with the other cars if you dont want attention though it does make sense to park away from everyone else to avoid dent. I checked my current car and most damage is from door dents.

Was talking to mom who lives in another country and she recently mentioned how people would key her car and on a few occasions even deflate some tires likely just out of jealousy as she is in a legal parking spot. Idk what goes on in their heads but I'm not surprised at all. I've also seen videos of people damaging Teslas here. Luckily there's cameras and police here actually did something. Really hoping Lucid would have some kind of Sentry Mode.

There are very good eating places/unique cuisines somehow located in very sketch neighborhoods. Uber could be an option but would be quite a hassle.

Yes, this car does draw a lot of attention.

“Wah! Look so futuristic!”

“Is that newest Tesla?!”

“What’s it called?”

“What country is it from?”

Blah blah blah….

I'm going to drive it, because it's my preferred car. Will make common sense decision on where it's parked, etc.
It will stink to have it keyed, but it'll still drive awesome.

They do it because they know 9 times out of 10 they will get away with it. Even with Sentry mode it's all well and good to have the person on camera but if you don't have anything to track them via license plate or something they get away with it. Someone on this forum already had their Lucid damaged by someone kicking it. It's just disgraceful that as a society people think this is ok to do.

This reminds me of the old adage of the capitalist and the socialist when they see a guy drive by in a fancy car. The capitalist says “ one day after a few years of hard work I’ll have a car like that” while the socialist says “ who does he think he is flaunting his wealth like that. The government should take that car, sell it and give the profits to the workers” sadly we are living in a country where more and more of the mostly young ascribe to the second view. Envy and rage are their only tool kit

I’m not worried about driving/parking the car in a “bad” neighborhood, as often in those neighborhoods people appreciate cool cars and know you do NOT mess with the nicest car on the block because you don’t know who owns it and there could be consequences. Plus I live in a “nice” neighborhood and my neighbor had the wheels stolen off his SUV that he street parked, not uncommon in Rhode Island. You’re more likely to be a target in your own neighborhood.

What I do worry about daily is street parking because of morons looking down while texting then crashing into my car. This happened directly outside of my window, on the front right you can’t see it but she hit the telephone pole, and broke her right axel and had to be towed. I went out to see if she was ok and she said “oh I looked down a lost control”, which means driving while texting. A few feet further and she would have hit a street parked car to the left which you can’t see in the photo. Bad neighborhoods don’t scare me, stupid drivers do which is why my car goes in the garage.

Frankly I think the main predictor for vandalism is someone’s level of a**hole-ness. I’m not sure if it’s worse now- growing up in the 80’s I have memories that it was way more rampant then. Maybe the focus has changed though…from luxury German cars to these new-fangled ‘lectric cars.

Hmmm, the people who I think are most prone to vandalizing EVs or road attacks are the ones who drive big trucks, quite a bit of video evidence to support that one. I haven’t gotten nervous parking next to a Subaru with a Greenpeace sticker on it, but do avoid the Dodge Ram with the “I identify as a Prius” sticker. Maybe a Bentley or S Class might be more at risk next to the Subaru/Greenpeace guy though?

Eh...shit happens, it's just a car, protect your health, live happy

This why I appreciate Apple CarPlay reading text to me by Siri.

C’mon, Lucid! 😉

Well the Lucid can already read texts via Alexa

This happened in Canada - https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/taycan-carjacked-at-canadian-charging-station.9247/

Generally I think we're a little more vulnerable when charging as there's no way to get going without getting out of the car and unplugging the charger.

I had a random get in my Taycan when I was charging at a Canadian Tyre. Luckily it was only a mistaken identity rather than a jacking, his drug dealer was in a white Taycan Turbo and mine is black!

This is why I asked about Sentry mode for Lucid. Sentry records when it detects people close to the car and if they do something you have it on video.

My cars are attention getters and this is why I have another car that I drive in areas I would not take the nicer ones. I have had people spit tobacco chew on my cars, ding the doors, they always park next me when I park no where near anyone, someone just hit my car while parked and caused $1k damage. I have PDR, but not when off. People can be a-holes and they are a-holes when they drive more! Drive slow in the fast lane and act like it's their world on the road and you have to deal with whatever they are doing. I can't stand the entitlement of people when they drive. Be courteous!

This happens when you buy nice things and cars that stick out. I think the Air is awesome and sexy, but it's not an exotic. I wouldn't worry as I do now. Just give it sentry mode, all cars need it.
