Tesla M3, AirGT
Well...two calls this morning and I am confident in Lucid again. Working with EA on charging problem and mobile tech & sales advisor coming down to address other issues on Monday/Tuesday next week. I am aware of what many of this forum already knew...some of us just bitched too early! Lucid knows their shortfalls and the adverse effects on customers paying big bucks for this vehicle. Maybe it was the right attitude when they explained their plans to me or, just the fact they knew I was frustrated but I am now calm and just spent two hours sitting in GT in the garage playing with things. I did, occasionally, looked over at my lonely Tesla M3 and swore it accused me of treating it like a "red-headed step car". Oh no, I may become a "Lucid Fanboy" after all but, in all honesty, I did lovingly stroke the Tesla's fender as I walked by. Couple of new pixs & to be fair during this midterm election period, I included the "other vehicle in the pix." Keep the faith brothers and sisters, the check is in the mail.

Did they give you any specifics with regard to the EA/Lucid issue?

No, I was given a number and called it. My GT is on their active list but EA could not determine why my GT did not connect on 8 different stalls. We are arranging for me to drive to chargers and do some troubleshooting. (should I ask for hourly rate?) I did tell them that someone had either vandalized or driven over the 350kW cable end. As mentioned, there are 10 stalls with 1 350kW but it is obvious they do not maintain them well. Hard to read the screens in AZ sunlight also. Some stalls had suffered soda and coffee thrown on them so, either frustrated chargers or wantabee EV owners.

BTW, depending on who has to charge most often between you and your wife's car, you could replace that Tesla HPWC with their new and reasonably-priced J1772 model. Your car could charge with it directly, but the Model 3 would need the J1772 adapter that is supported by Tesla and comes with the car. Just a thought in case it's applicable.

I have 3 Tesla HPWC. 2 Gen 2's at work and one Gen 3 at work. Picked up the Tesla Tap mini and it works flawlessly with all 3. Had to Dremel out the interior of the Tesla Tap mini just to make it a little easier to get on and off the home ones.

I understand that Lucid is saying it could void the warranty. I have no idea why they say that. Especially considering they only just released their own wall charger. Yes, we have a cable that can plug into 220 outlets (110 only works for a few people). EA is a third party. So they're saying EVGo, charge point and all other external charging infrastructure could void the warranty? That's not possible unless they're willing to build out their own supercharging network.

All that said, at $300, the Tesla Tap Mini is not a perfect solution. If I were starting out, I would buy a Universal charger and use the Tesla Adapter as DeaneG has suggested. But for someone that already has a Tesla charger, the Tesla Tap is great to have and could prove very useful for destination charging.

When my Tesla HPWC breaks, I will not replace it with another though. I'll likely get the Chargepoint or possibly the Lucid one. And that's a final note. My Tesla HPWC have broken every 3-4 years. I think the current Gen may hold up a little better. But the Gen 2's failed pretty regularly and they can't be repaired.

I think the whole “void your warranty” thing is a CYA maneuver. They would have to prove that some flaw in the Tap caused damage to the car. So I doubt that would hold up if you made an actual claim.

Unless the Tap did actually do some obvious harm. But that seems unlikely.

Agreed.

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding on these wall chargers. They’re pretty dumb devices. It’s just a mechanism for delivery of electricity. Not that different from a standard electrical outlet. Somehow, because it has a fancy handle on the end, people think it’s more complicated.

All the fancy stuff is in the car itself.

I think the problem is most if not all of the teslataps are not UL certified.
