EA Problems

I see the only advantage to using the EA network is that it is 'free' for a certain amount of time. I'm just curious, how much does it cost to go from, say, 10% to 70% at a ChargePoint level 3?
The advantage of EA is that they are well-positioned along major routes, and usually have an even split of 150kW and 350kW chargers. Chargepoint is ubiquitous but mostly 50/62.5kW (too slow to be useful except in an emergency), EVGO much more sparse, other vendors bordering on rare.

I'm sensing that, even though EA has these higher wattage chargers, they are not to be relied upon.
Where I drive is pretty isolate, can't take many chances on stuff not working.

They have indicated for years they would have Carplay. CarPlay is already active on the car according to web site as well as other functionality that is still “coming” It’s on Lucid, not Apple.
i believe the Apple part very much. Apple can be very picky and oftentimes very frustrating to work with. they have rejected my former employer's app many times for ridiculous reasons.

Same here. Chargepoint has historically been one of the most reliable charging networks, but it seems not always with Lucid. We're taking our other EV on road trips, leaving the Air at home, until this is fixed. There are few other charging choices in my part of the country besides EA and Chargepoint.

Goleta EA fiasco only cost us 10 minutes because my wife saw this movie in the summer. Plan to charge on State St BofA next time during another lunch at Lure 😊.
The State St EA was my first charging experience after I picked my car up from getting PPF done in SB. We went across the street to Whole Foods while it charged before driving home.

Would you prefer “never coming”, like Rivian and Tesla? Being an early adopter of game changing technology is not for everyone. Those who are paying the increased price, without the benefit of the $7,500 tax credit will likely never experience the issues that cause you great frustration. I personally never had a doubt that Lucid would deliver on their promises (including CarPlay) and after receiving the 2.0 beta test, I understand that they may have actually underpromised on many features and are in the process of over delivering.

I did zero planning as there were so many EA stations on my route. Lucid sent me to a ChargePoint location that was fenced in and only for busses. Was at 32% so next location was a ccs at a Hilton garden in, out of service. Next location was a VW dealer and a Nissan dealer across the street from each other. Arrived at 9%. Nissan dealer had a Mach-e at 20% that planned to go to 80%. The Nissan charger was blocked, but we were able to get the dealership to move a car. The first 3 attempts ended with communication errors. We were at 9% so I persisted and on the 4th try it started charging. ABB charger At 30-39kW. 90 minutes later we were at 49%. We got to our destination in DC with 12%. Our vrbo listed EV charging. Unfortunately it is level 1 and currently shows a charging time of 8 days 11 hours. There are options in DC for us to charge this weekend within walking distance. I have mapped out options for the drive home. There are options if you plan in advance, sucked finding out while on the road. There are not many non EA level 3 chargers and many locations are only one charger, so significant chance for it to be down. I was expecting multiple EA options fo a couple easy 20 minute sessions. No such luck.
Thanks for sharing. I was really concerning about the charging network for Lucid.

I am on a road trip and EA will not charge. I went to two different locations and tried 3 different chargers at each location. Spent 3 hours with EA and Lucid on the phone. No luck. EA saying it is a Lucid problem, Lucid blaming EA. All other brands that pulled in were able to charge. Another Lucid pulled in and had same issues. I am on 1.2.21. Needless to say being on a road trip with all EA charging eliminated is frustrating. Luckily found DC fast charger 30-39kW at a Nissan dealership with only 14% charge left. Need at least 50% to get to destination. My wife is done with Lucid. Looks like BMW for next road trip. 3 hours of plugging unplugging and charger resets not the way we planned to spend the day. My judgement is being questioned for sticking with this car.

It is a new thing for both Lucid and EA. I would be more patient about it. I am sure it will be fixed in the near future.

SO - guess who tried to charge at the Arizona Mills EA spot, and got denied?

Not me.

There were several chargers. I tried 6.

Car was at 22%
1 worked for 7 minutes and then stopped charging (no explanation)
The other one worked for 6 minutes, and quit (connection fault)
There were 2 Rivians and a Mach-E that were there before and after I left

My Model X Plaid was ready to go by the time I spent about 28 minutes fiddling with the EA gear... 13 minutes was getting charged, 15 minutes was wasted... so we just left.

Really sorry to hear that. I totally get how frustrated you were. I'm on 1.2.21 and so far my EA charging experience has been great. There were a couple of time I had authentication issue. And the way I resolve it is by resetting the car. To reset the car, just turn on the turn signal, leave the car and lock it. After the turn signal turned off, go back and unlock the car. Before my Lucid, I was driving a R1T, it didn't come with free EA charging. And I used EVgo, EA and chargePoint. ChargPoint worked most consistently, never had a single time it won't charge. Evgo is the second best, EA is by far the worst. So, have a backup plan and don't solely rely on EA. Also, EA has the worst customer service. For EA, ask them to reset the station, also try reset your car. If after resetting, it doesn't work. Just leave, there is no point debugging on the road.

Same here, tried three stalls at EA 10 hours ago , got denied at each one whereas two ionics and a rivian and a couple of others had no problem. I got a couple no authentication messages then charging but at 0 kilowatts so won’t initiate. I did not know about this thread as there seems to be some discussion if itsLucids last update or is it EAs last update or maybe it’s a perfect storm of both depending on location. I was able to charge this last Friday no problem at a different location. Either way I’m planning to drive the car from NY to Florida and back early to mid December and this thread gives me great pause. What’s happening with the beta testers on 2.0 and charging? Maybe this becomes a moot point? I have the lucid app, where is the backup button to initiate charging ? I never had to do that before.

Did you try to reset the Lucid?

Unrelated software charging Glitch? Just checked my app and it says my car is at 418 miles up from 90 miles earlier charging at home. That’s great but I set charging to go to 50 percent and it looks like it’s trying to go to 100. When I go to the lucid app to charging icon to stop charging I just get a blank page. I have to get out of bed at 4am and 36 degree weather get dressed and walk outside to manually disconnect. I Did not put the car into garage as the outside Tesla wall charger seems to work better than the 240 plug inside the garage.

Did you try to reset the Lucid?
Yes twice. No go. Wasted 40 minutes waiting for chargers and dicking around with plugging and unplugging and resetting before the wife ran out of patience and said let’s go eat dinner ( she didn’t eat lunch or breakfast so was understandably peckish)

I will try the reset next time, thank you! I am currently on the 1.2.21 also right now.

You’re incorrect. CarPlay is presently going through the Apple approval process. The cars, under the hood, actually already have it on there, but it is “feature flagged” as off.

It isn’t uncommon to need to go through multiple rounds of approval with Apple, and unfortunately each time you start at the beginning of the line and it can be very unpredictable. I have written other posts with references to developers lamenting the process.

So, to say “it isn’t on Apple, but on Lucid” is, in this case, inaccurate. It is waiting on Apple to approve the implementation, and that is an *even more* opaque process than any comms issues Lucid has had.

It has benefits, too, like ensuring every implementation works well and looks good, but these are the cons.
I am sure Apple would not approve an implementation that has unresponsive buttons and enormous lag as the Lucid has. If I keep bringing a car with bald tires to a safety inspection and it fails, is it the inspectors fault, or mine?
Not in dispute is Lucid has listed CarPlay as on the car from the first time I visited their site. Over 2 years later and almost a year after delivery of the car, I’m still waiting.

The advantage of EA is not free, it’s that it is the most prevalent level 3 provider. I would have gladly paid EA, or EVgo, or ChargePoint…. A station has to be available to ”pay”

I am happy to report I am at an EA station in DC and the car started charging with no issues. Plugged in and car was charging in less than a minute.
Currently pulling 86kW. Pun intended. 😂
