Hello,

I'm curious if anyone is using an adapter that enables plugging the 14-50 cable into a 6-50 receptacle? It seems this should be safe based on what EV chargers require, but curious if anyone is actually doing this.

Thanks!

Hello,

My wall charger came equipped with 6-50 adapter at my request which I plugged my EVSE cable into commercial grade and corresponding AC receptacle. It works great!

I'll agree that it is theoretically safe, but it all depends on the receptacle (EV rated?) and the adapter (EV rated?).
You might find that there is a neutral line already present in the junction box, and an electrician could swap in an EV-rated 14-50 at little cost.

Is there a way to determine if the lucid charging cable makes use of neutral?

Some threads on the forum seem to suggest folks using adapter to 6-50, but was looking for confirmation of that.

I suspect the electrician did not run neutral (why bother when it's not needed). I will verify that later though.

Thanks.

It could work but why gamble. Would be better if Lucid allowed you to use the car to limit current. Limiting current to 25 amps (6kW) would give ok speed (6X level 1) and reduce the risk associated with high current going through the adaptor.
Without the ability to limit current I would have the outlet changed.
