23 touring vs 22 gt

GVWR…… over 6K
Hence, why it qualifies for section 179

Daily driving range isn't an issue, but the very first trip I planned ran into considerations due to lack of DCFC in the area (Hershey, PA), requiring a planned stop on the way out that a GT wouldn't have needed. Not the end of the world, but I started seeing the value of the GT's extra battery capacity (understanding the slight elevation of the floor in the rear cabin), especially since it will invite lower starting SOC requirements during return trips where it might be ok to top up to 60-80% SOC at a DCFC for the leg home, whereas a Touring might have needed, say, 90-100% to get it done, requiring an significantly longer charging session due to the charging curves. It started dawning on me just how helpful extra kwh can be.

Between that and the massaging seats which have garnered decent reviews (I wouldn't say no on long trips), I'm leaning towards the GT now - all because the 2nd hand market doesn't reflect the significant purchase price difference between GT and Touring. The nuances appear to be lost on the market (great for buyers).

It wouldn't be a challenging decision if the used GT pricing was significantly higher...I would simply stick with the Touring. However, with '22 GT's at $70-75k all day long at this point, it's challenging to justify a $73k 23 Touring, ASSUMING there is no significant build quality differences between '22 and '23. That's what I'm trying to research to make the most well-informed decision.
Hi, Harrisburg here. There is DCFC right near HIA. Hershey is 15 minutes away.

Thank you, didn't realize they were that close. This is the Blink chargers in the cell phone lot?

I hope the Sheetz units (showing a coming soon in plugshare) happen soon.

Not sure why more convenience stops don't have them. Seems like a high margin opportunity since the government pays air a bit back in credits for businesses that install level 3 dcfc.

Thx for the info, I was driving all over Elizabethtown wishing it was in a lucid, not a hyundai ICE with a horrific transmission.

This is the fast charger near the airport. It's about a block from Sheetz and the new WaWa being built. The Sheetz off i83 near the old Harrisburg East Mall is rumored to be installed this fall. Same with the Sheetz off i81 towards i78.

Thank you, I did see there were two options there, one is in the airport parking lot, the other is in the cell phone lot if I'm not mistaken.

This one is off site about a mile or less from the airport. The cell phone and airport garage are different. Plus neither of those are DC fast chargers this one is.

My bad, I said "airport parking lot," but I see it's off-site airport parking. We are talking about the same site though :)

Reviving this older thread. I am faced with a similar choice between 2022 GT and a 2023 Touring. Touring has 4k miles more than the GT, but both are well below 15k miles.
Cost wise Touring is roughly 6K cheaper than the GT (including taxes). Additionally, Touring will have one year additional warranty, may have better build quality given it is from 2023. It has DD Pro and SS Pro. When faced with this decision while buying new I could see how the price delta of 30k+ for a GT will make Touring lot more attractive. But that delta has come down to 6k or so now. I will probably take 2-3 long trips a year and rest of would be local commute (< 30 miles/day). I am most likely spinning my wheels with over analyzing. :)
I would appreciate your suggestions!

I have a 23 touring with dd pro and ss pro. If I had to choose again, I would go with the GT for the extra range and the massaging seats!

And horsepower!

Doesnt Touring have more than enough already? Not asking flippantly, really interested to know.
Obviously, yes. When I got my GT, I couldn't imagine needing more horsepower than that. I chose it for range, plus I couldn't begin to come up with the extra money for the Performance version. But after having it all this time, while it does have plenty of power, I often wish I had the GT-P.

I am a Touring owner...I'd still go with a Touring.. deeper back seats and floor...and I have never once come close to using the full range of the Touring..never felt lacking for HP...the only thing I wonder about is the massage seats but I prefer a lighter car over the seats and everytime I have used the massaging seats I've not felt they're a must have..nice to have sure ..not a must have...again, this is just me though. GT is an absolutely great trim but not worth the extra dollars to me ...not when the delta was $35k and also not when the delta is $6k.

Came here to say this. If I could go back., I would have definitely opted for the GT.

Got a touring, would still do a touring. Handles better being 220 lbs lighter. I tried the massage seats in the loaners and they were fine but not a must have.

The deeper rear footwell is a big comfort plus for backseat passengers.

This isn't my roadtrip car though FWIW. Plenty for getting around where i need to. Probably max drive I've done is ~220 mi round trip.

I was unable to drive a Lucid before purchase back in 22' (time flies!).

First Purchase
We had a decision of the GT at legacy pricing or holding off with ultimately getting the Touring. Finances worked out, and we pulled the trigger based on planned long road trips. Turns out we needed the extra range to reach really remote parts of West Virginia and Southern Alabama (between charging stations, no option of trickle charger, frequent short trips between houses). During this time, we received a GT-P loaner. My whole world view shifted. The GT felt dull by comparison afterwards.

Second Purchase
Totaled the GT. We now had the option between a GT (minimum choice) vs GT-P. GT-P was priced about 20k+ difference. After much fretting, we decided to do the GT-P. We received a GT as a loaner at one point. The stark contrast was a constant disappointment similar to the transition period from loaner GT-P to GT.

Moral of the Story: What is 6k worth for the very real possibility of buyer's regret? You only live once. 6k can be easily scraped back from small buying decisions over the course of a year without impact to lifestyle.

Honestly, unless you are a professional driver, there’s no way you will be able to tell the difference of 220 pounds with respect to handling. I agree that the deep footwell is nice if you carry a lot of adults in your backseat, which I don’t. The main thing, though, is power. I have driven every variant except the Sapphire, and I long for that for its extra power! I do also appreciate the extra range for trips that are 350 miles, which I do occasionally. The massaging seats are cool but I think I’ve used them like three times.

I hear you Bobby regarding the rear footwell. Folks are lucky they're even allowed in my car at all! 😂 😂
