Was about to place an order and got an avalanche of negative feedback about the Lucid. people warning me away in the strongest terms. anybody dealt with this or have insight into where all this vitriol is coming from?
Also is it possible to use the Tesla chargers and super chargers. I get different feedback. Thank you very much

Lucid's software was almost unusable in the first year of shipments. It's greatly improved since and isn't bad other than the phone-as-a-key. Many choose to use the key fob instead, due to this. I use either.

Lucid is a startup that is well-backed by institutional investors, notably the Saudi sovereign fund (PIF). Profitability is a way off, and is unlikely until Lucid can ship a large quantity of vehicles built on the midsize platform now in development. This is similar to Tesla's situation in 2018.

Some people think that you need a Tesla to use Tesla's supercharger network. That's no longer true - Gravity has access now, and the Air should within three months. Other charging networks, with newer, more powerful, reliable equipment, are being built out rapidly.

There are also so many Tesla fans who genuinely believe their cars are the greatest thing ever, and don't want to hear that there may be better engineered products available.

I've enjoyed my Air GT for almost three years, and will likely trade it in for a Gravity this winter. Why? Because I need an SUV, and I want to have the best vehicle available. For me, that's going to be another Lucid.

super helpful and informative. thank u

Tell me about it...I had a guy who worked at the leadership level at one of the four big consulting firms that there was a snowball's chance in hell that Lucid would make it past 2023 and to not put my money on Lucid ... wow was he wrong and how glad I am that I took the dive with Lucid. Remember that those without any issues aren't necessarily scoping these forums so we dont get to always hear about the positive experiences folks may be having. I just drove my AT about 800 miles last week and I can't imagine doing that in a non-Lucid vehicle now...do not fall prey to others' opinions....make yours and live by that....personally, I cut through all the chatter by focusing on the fundamentals.... deep pockets (Saudi)...check....good engineering team .. check...good hardware design ...check...second mover advantage...check....its not been perfect by any stretch of the imagination...but its been good overall...

Well, you are on this forum. You see the complaints and problems from people who actually own the car. Is it any worse than other forums like Tesla, Rivian, Hyundai(electric) , or Kia? I'm asking since I don't own any other electric car and don't visit them. What kind of stuff are people "warning" you about? Personally, I have had very minor issues with the car. The car is luxurious, fun to drive and the fastest I've ever driven. 2 years/ 25K miles so far...

No. It's the same. Visit any of those forums and spend even a few minutes, and you'll find some very similar-sounding threads. :)

It is still the best vehicle I've ever driven, and I've had pretty minimal issues.

I bet those warned you not to buy it are mostly Tesla associated owner of either car or stock.

In Lucid Air, I find myself spent less time on manipulating screen and enjoy every corner it turns, every straight it accelerates and every bump it smooth out.

I think when getting a car from a brand new car maker, one should be prepared to face growing pains related to it (and I didn't realize it before leasing my 2025 AT). Kind of being a beta tester. My AT is by far the buggiest car I've ever had, and yet is easily is among the top 2 cars I've enjoyed driving. And Lucid is working on the issues and even during the 6 months I've used it, the amount of bugs has steadily declined...

next month, my GT turns 3. the car still drives like day 1 and it's a joy to drive it. I'll reserve the midsize when it becomes available and most likely i'll keep the Air. Some Tesla Superchargers are available to Air today (i believe there are a few with the dock/adapter) but don't rely on them. Like DeaneG said, all superchargers would open up eventually (they said Q3) but EA is sufficient IMO (i have taken my Air to YellowStone/Grand Teton and through various national parks in Utah almost always relying on EA).

Wanting to add another long-term owner’s glowing and enthusiastic voice to the chorus of praise we are seeing here.

I’ve personally driven my Lucid Air for over 65,000 miles, and I can say without hesitation: this is the best car I’ve ever owned.

Why? Let’s start with Efficiency & Range: I’ve regularly achieved 450+ miles on a single charge my personal best is +/-485 miles, real world not being miss daisy. (Shocking to the @AirDoll ’s among us) No range anxiety here. And do I even need to bring up Performance: This thing is a rocket ship when I want it to be, but refined and smooth when I’m cruising. The handling, the suspension tuning, the responsiveness it’s all top-tier.

Interior & Comfort: The cabin is serene, spacious, and beautifully designed. The seats are by far the most comfortable I’ve experienced on long trips. The leather and interior detail work (stitching, joints, accessory’s, map pockets, etc.) are all top notch in line with other Rolls Royce, Bentley, S-Class interiors.

Now for the touchy subject… don’t kill me! Software: Lucid’s software is great, it has worked for me, sure in the beginning it was slow but it has never been unusable. Nowadays, I don’t notice the software and just enjoy the drive. And honestly if you are a car person this car will make you forget about software. Finally, Lucid’s OTA updates have steadily improved the system. DreamDrive and navigation continue to evolve, and I appreciate that they listen to feedback. Seriously listen. They scope these forums personally and have many trusted people who report back to the engineers. This fact alone makes them ahead of the curve. They listen to criticism, and are all for improving. Heck, every update they have a fleet of Lucid Forum feedback just waiting to tell them what they did right, and wrong!

Service: I’ve had my share of minor issues, as with any car, especially a first-gen tech platform, but every time I’ve needed support, Lucid has been responsive and professional. They’ve improved a lot since the early days, and it shows. If you see some of my service posts you can see that they are responsive and attentive to their clients. Dispatching tow trucks if needed and providing generous loaner vehicles for the occasional longer term appointment.

Are there growing pains? Sure. What new automaker doesn’t have them? But I find a lot of the “bad things” people claim to have heard are either outdated, exaggerated, or from people who have never actually driven or owned the car. Or from people that have a ton of Tesla stock… or blind faith in Mr. Elon coming out on top.

In talking with the engineers who designed this vehicle you can see they were out to take a blank sheet of paper and reinvent the EV. And I think they’ve done just that.

Owning a Lucid is a unique experience. It offers high-tech, high-performance, and deeply rewarding experiences to any owner. No matter the trim level. I’ve driven luxury and performance EV’s and iCE vehicles across the board, and Lucid stands out. If OP has more specific concerns or questions, I’m happy to share more. And I know from the good responses to this thread that many others will take up that torch as well if OP needs it.

To those forming opinions based on rumors or Reddit-level hearsay: take a ride in one. Better yet, talk to someone who’s put real miles on theirs. You might be surprised by how much of the noise just doesn’t match reality. And as someone who was one of the firsts to drive a Gravity, I think Lucid is set to hit another vehicle class out of the park.

I’m thirsty for more!

Life is not perfect so there are positives and negatives in a car.

I've been buying Tesla since 2012 due to its range. I was about to continue to buy it when it promised 500+ range for Cybertruck.

I switched to Lucid because it has more range.

It charges faster. Tesla decided to charge slower by discontinued its 80A wall connector. It chooses 400V DC instead of 800V DC.

Tesla's frunk is tiny. Lucid is much more roomier interiorly. That reflects good engineering/designing.

Lucid suspension is nicer, more quiet, smoother that beats Tesla's air suspension.

My Lucid has been reliable since 2022. I drove from CA to the East coast and back with no problems. I only had one minor fix to glue back the rubber trim at the wheel arch.

It drives very well and I enjoyed how responsive it is on winding roads on Appalachian mountains. It doesn't reliably automatically steer itself on those curves just yet but it's a collaborative steering shared by human and the automation.

The cons:

Lucid's software doesn't have as many features as Tesla does. Its phone as a key is not reliably responsive but I have no problem using my fob instead of phone.

Originally, its Bass was hidden somewhere but now it is much better and quite accessible.

Its homelink doesn't automatically close and open your garage doors but you can manually open more than a dozen and not just 3.

There are other minor negatives but as a whole, it's a much better car for me.

I think it depends on what you value the most.

Having owned a Tesla, a Rivian, and now leasing a Lucid, I find myself valuing technology more than sheer comfort.

The Lucid is great to drive. It is VERY quiet and comfortable just as a luxury sedan should be. Super stable at high speed. But the software is leaving a lot to be desired as you could see in people’s complaints in this forum. Speaking for myself, I’d sacrifice some comfort to have a more robust software.

It would also make more sense if there is a Lucid SC near you. If you ever need service, having a SC close to you is a much easier process.

My Lucid has been trouble free since I took delivery in March. I hope it stays that way. It has its share of software glitches but I still enjoy driving it. Will I get another one? Probably not until their smaller and cheaper model comes out and the software is good enough.

YMMV
