Home Assistant Automations

We split time between two houses, and as you can imagine I have a ton of remote stuff going on when we are away from one of the home. This....sounds like I need to check out. Geez, first you get me to buy a $120k car now you want to make me a programmer as well. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«
Oh, boy, you have no idea. You're about to be in love with me. :)

Seems that HA update 2025.5 broke the Lucid integration. Hopefully it will be back soon.

So just buy Home Assistant Green and I'm off and running? How hard is it to integrate all my Apple HomeKit stuff?

Yup. Integrating HomeKit stuff is confusing but easy once you understand it. The confusion is because you can go both ways - you can share all your Home Assistant things with HomeKit, and you can share all of your HomeKit things with Home Assistant. The documentation isn't (to me at least) super clear about which button does what.

Ok, here goes...

It's become much easier for newbies to deal with complex stuff using ChatGPT. It will write the YAML for you and then you can just copy it and add your device ids etc where they're needed

Released version 1.1.1 just now, let me know how I broke everything for you šŸ™‚

My Home Assistant automation stopped working. When I go to it I see that it reports invalid config. Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

There's been a version update to work with the current version of HA Core. Go to HACS and download the new version.

Hmm..just hooked this up and already regretting it. Waaaaaaay too cumbersome to add devices. Prolly going to return it to Amazon.

Okay, thx for letting us know.

Really? Just giving some feedback on how user friendly this is/isn't for an averagely tech saavy person. Sorry to offend.
I’m not offended, lol. ā€œIt suxā€ is not useful feedback; that’s all.

What, specifically, did you have issues with? What devices did you have trouble adding? Perhaps we can clarify a misunderstanding? That would be useful information.

ā€œIt sucks, I don’t like itā€ is not. That’s all I’m saying; wasn’t trying to be mean.

Hmmm...I don't think I said it sux. I said I found it very cumbersome to configure. I'm not a coder, but I'm not a luddite either, and I am wondering how much time I want to invest setting this up to do....I don't know what. HomeKit works pretty well with about 80% of my devices. The other 20% require specific apps, etc. If I actually had a Lucid, that might be interesting, but delivery is still several weeks off.

I really don't want to argue about this because you seem like a really good guy and a tremendous asset to this forum, so let's just leave it at that.

No need to argue. I think the answer is fairly clear: without a use case, it isn’t useful. There are many hundreds of use cases.

If you don’t have a use case, it’d be like owning a coffee maker and disliking coffee, lol.

What were you hoping to automate?

What were you hoping to automate?
Well it turns out I don't have an answer to that question--which is prolly the crux of the problem. I guess I was vaguely hoping I could consolidate all my remote functions/automations in one place, but HomeKit already does a pretty good job of that in a very attractive, user-friendly form. Perhaps my goal should be to add my cameras and Ring devices into the mix. These (and my cars) are the only devices that don't play nicely with HomeKit.
