They were hard to reach on the right, even for me; but I agree that was better. There were many complaints though, I assume from people with shorter arms than me. :)

There used to be icons on the left side for home, media, etc. They have now extended CarPlay to take up the full possible width, so those icons are gone.

If you pull up CarPlay with whatever app is playing (like Apple Music) it will show you the artwork. But no, it won’t show it in the media view for you while CarPlay is playing media. (This part isn’t new in the update, and has always been this way, iirc)

(FWIW, this is also the way it works on all vehicles with CarPlay, so that’s a reliable way to get out of CarPlay on any vehicle; there will always be a manufacturer icon that takes you back. Some vehicles have additional methods, but this one is always there)

The minimum is $2000 as of 2026 (used to be $600 before), so that is unlikely to apply unless you get other things from the points store too.
