Lucid Air Sapphire Drag Race

The Sapphire is just a fast sedan and just isn't worth $250,000, to me. If I spend that much on a car, I want it to be a Ferrari or something that looks way cooler than the Sapphire. Just my opinion, so no need for a rebuttal. Now, if Lucid makes a roadster, I might buy one assuming that it does not have the issues that my DE has had.

Agreed -- it's a tough value proposition. You can almost buy a AGT and a Plaid for the price of a Sapphire. It seems like Lucid wanted to lay the hammer down with their Plaid+++ competitor, which is understandable. I'm not sure there is enough content differentiation either if they slotted something in between the GT-P and Sapphire at the risk of cannibalizing Sapphire sales. Kinda makes me feel like I got a good deal at 139K for the AGT! 😅

GT-P is what I'm driving right now, an absolute blast btw.
Two modes that I engage only, Smooth in the City and Sprint, the highway.
Would I spend money on a Sapphire? Yes!

Agree, for a $250k toy I'd get a proper sports car. At least with a Sapphire you won't have to play the manufacturer's games with preferred buyers, allocations, etc. You can just buy one.

On the other hand, unlike a Ferrari, the depreciation on the Sapphire is unknown and will probably be steep.

Can you purchase a Ferrari without being raped by a dealership?

When I went in to pick my car up at the detail shop this morning, all the guys in there were watching this on the big screen and all were super impressed. Made me feel pretty cool to have one of the slower offspring of the Sapphire.

FYI, The Porsche Taycan Turbo-S ( !!! How ???) is one of the most desired versions in the Taycan line, has a long waiting list, and has MSRP in the range of $220-250K

It also has a 200 mi range.

Even the GT-P smokes it, and I don't think any Taycan Turbo-S owner want to try it against the Sapphire.

We'll wait to see how these two perform at the track, but it's likely that the Sapphire outgun it by a long shot.

I love how we're now like "at 819Hp my car is slow" 😂

Again, why quite a few of our members are pissed off at Sapphire's results?
Kind of amusing to me.

Porsche has a very loyal customer base to a point where once they're in they don't typically move away from them and when you ask a Porsche driver why the response typically is the performance and driving dynamics over anything else. I'm not a Porsche guy and even I like the Taycan I would've purchased it in a heartbeat if it wasn't for their software strategy just not being what they promised, similar to Audi.

The Sapphire is a great halo car, kudos to Lucid. It is a hell of a car to produce right out of the gate. The Sapphire definitely turns heads and raises eyebrows of any automobile enthusiasts.

Whether you like the Sapphire or not, it gets people talking, which is what a halo car should do.

As much as Peter likes to talk about Mercedes and BMW as their competitors, the Sapphire makes it 100% clear that Lucid's engineering tech is superior to Tesla's. It blows a giant hole in Tesla's assumed superiority, just as recent data coming out about FSD is doing. The more Lucid can be perceived as being at the top of EV automotive engineering, the better.

If people don't like the Lucid Air Sapphire then I'd say this might not be the right place. I've NEVER heard a Porsche guy say he didn't like the GT3RS! LOL!😂🤦

Well rumor circulating that the Sapphire will run the Nurburgring circuit at some point in the future and then we will have a good idea how it compares. My guess is it will do very well.

If Stig is behind the wheel, for sure.

Jason Camissa just posted his latest drag race video that pits the Sapphire against a Tesla Plaid and a Bugatti Chiron

Absolute insane video production!

This is the real test, and where I suspect you will see much more difference between the Lucid and the Tesla. So you do a fast 1/4 mile? That’s ok, but can you brake and go round a corner. That is where is it much more relevant and relates better to the normal experience of driving end enjoying a well designed car through fun twisty roads rather than just pulling away from the lights.
