Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Touring

Had an opportunity to see the two colors I am considering at the Scottsdale studio and also took a second test drive. The test drive cars still have the older SW, but the car inside the studio has 2.0. The responsiveness of the UI is everything the Beta testers have described...much improved.

As a result of seeing the cars in person - changing from Zenith Red to Quantum Grey and Tahoe to Mojave.

That's how it worked for the GT owners. Lucid will send the car to the service center before requiring payment. You want to check with lenders how quickly they approve then fund. Timing was the car is available for pick up within a month of getting the VIN. I paid for the car with certified check when I picked the car up. The credit union I used funded the day before I picked up the car so cut it pretty close. If you ask for home delivery, I think they require payment before delivery.

There have been outliers where PDI detects issues with the car and delays delivery and that can mess with the loan lock period if loan app is submitted soon after VIN assignment. That's why people started waiting to apply until the car arrived at the service center...plus that was verification that the car actually left the factory. There were some issues the early GT deliveries had (especially with home delivery) that caused the recommendation to hold off paying for the car until you were sure there was a car and it was ready for delivery. I think a lot of those issues have been ironed out by Lucid.

As @MScott states about interest rates, you have to play that against applying too soon and having the lock expire. No one knows when the first Touring is going to be delivered and no one knows when your specific car is going to be ready. After you confirm your order, then Lucid applies their criteria for which cars get manufactured first.
 
Similar to many of you I recently received the invitation to finalize my Touring order. Upon doing so my SA completed a warm introduction with my newly assigned DA. Last Friday I received an email from my new DA to schedule an introductory call (to sure up all aspects of my order, provide personal information, and discuss next steps in the production assembly process). We met today and the discussion went far better than anticipated. Given my selections it appears there is a good chance of taking delivery before the end of the year.

I reside in the Phoenix, AZ market and, by all indications, the Casa Grande AMP-1 facility has [definitely] found another gear as several GTs are coming to the Service Center in shorter intervals. And the expectation for transitioning to the Touring build schedule has the Service Center team on alert [in the near term]. Of course, the DAs will not commit on delivery for either of the trims, however I expect my VIN will likely be issued by mid Nov. And if this target is met then it's reasonable to expect a delivery on or around Christmas.

Cheers to all of you [us] that have had the patience [of Job] to hang in there and the tolerance of ..well, whoever to not loose sight of the initial goal!
 
Are we supposed to get a reach out from an SA upon completing the reservation? I confirmed last week with an Dec. 2020 initial reservation and haven't heard anything. Does getting reached out mean you're likely to get the car sooner 🤔?

All DAs are different. I wouldn‘t read into it too much.

IMO, it is not an issue of being fair or unfair; it is an issue of economics. Companies spend millions developing new features. Someone has to pay for them. I remember Audi charging thousands for LED headlamps when they first offered them; now it's standard equipment for many cars. Same can be said for adaptive cruise control, power windows, power door locks, rain-sensing wipers - you name it. I'm not sure you can buy a car without power windows anymore because it's cheaper than a manual window. In a few years, many dream drive pro features will be standard on all cars. What's intriguing to me is that DDP is programmable. Hopefully, Lucid will continue to develop features that will be static on other cars. That's what I'm buying it for. I'm in my early/mid 70s. I'm hoping DDP will allow me to drive safely into my 80s if I'm still around. Just my 2-cents.

Cheers & Amen !!! Confirmed final order 26 Oct 22. Initial reservation 19 Mar 21. It's been a long wait and patience will be rewarded especially if deliveries of the first Touring Model are in December.

> Your DA will send an email to you inviting you to schedule an introductory call (this is dependent on your SA and their hand off to your assigned DAs relationship)
> As you review your configuration and address all your questions, you'll be advised of your car's [potential] assembly scheduling
> Your VIN issuance and purchase selection will be discussed (this based on the prior two notes)
> You will be notified by your DA of your VIN assignment (which initiates your car's build process and opens your purchasing window)
> The clock begins on your car's assembly and it's transfer to [your] local Design Center or home (which ever one you opted for)

Note: as has been mentioned in this forum by LUCID team members [on this forum], the steps noted will vary depending on a few factors (e.g., your engagement with your SA & DA, your configuration options, etc.) however as LUCID transitions from the GT to Touring assembly schedule it is likely we will all experience in part or all of the steps noted. What I have intentionally left out are specific time intervals between the steps occurring as I believe there are more contributing factors that are specific to the future owner and the configuration that come into play.

This is helpful. Thanks! My concern is when is the optimal time to start looking for financing? When car is at the delivery center, on the way to the deliver center, etc.??

Great question! Looking through the discussion threads of the GT owners there wasn't much to go on pertaining to how individuals approached financing. I suspect each future owner will take the necessary steps to acquire funding as is comfortable for them to do so. Because I am not financially positioned to pay cash, over the past month I took steps to compare interest rates between the banks I have a relationship with (e.g., CU, general household management bank, and my savings & investment bank) to determine which one I would acquire a line of credit from. I have a pre-qual letter from each one.

As mentioned to my DA, financing has been completed and this helped to move our discussion along. As a note: I am interested in verifying what BoFA's finance rate is through their servicing agreement with LUCID and plan to verify it when the time comes. As you [or each of us] reach the point of notifying LUCID of our financing preference I would suspect everyone will default to their typical financial management decision practices.. mine, in particular being, obtaining the best rate for the lowest period based on my down payment. Others will approach it from the prioritized convenience that suits them. All-in-all, I would suggest to give yourself options by researching and comparing rates & payment plans that afford you a long enough window to apply once your car is ready for pickup.

Just one fellow Touring cohort's opinion.. I welcome other's thoughts.

I agree that many features can be found in a 20-20K car - today. One of the big differences between DD and DDP is LIDAR. There is clear debate between Elon Musk and Peter Rawlinson on the need for LIDAR. Elon Musk is a genius but (being an engineer) I have to side with Rawlinson on this one. DDP has nothing to show for at the moment (duh). My $9K bet is that it will at some future point in time, and multiple times at that. I'm hoping/expecting the software and tech gurus will exploit the use of LIDAR and develop those capabilities, then flash a message on the screen to tell me to update the software. Lucid is one of the first car companies to embrace LIDAR. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Honda, Volvo, GM have already committed to it. Toyota will probably not be far behind. With competition that fierce, I expect many software developments that will be LIDAR-based. Would you future-proof a $110K+ car for $9K? That's the question I asked myself and my rationale for the $9K investment.

So they are not just starting production of T in Dec but actually planning to deliver. That is better than expected. That means those waiting for Pure could see deliveries in Feb Mar 23 2 to 3 months behind T.
