Disappointing Surreal Sound Pro

I was so excited about the arrival of CD's that I abandoned turntables for good upon the introduction of CD players. I got the first album that was actually digitally recorded instead of remastered from an analog tape: Emmylou Harris' "The Ballad of Sally Rose". If I could have worn out a CD, I would have worn out that one.
I’m more of a jazz guy…David Grusen did some pioneering digital productions in the early’80s…often of his own performances. That’s when the turntable got boxed up

Yes, I have bass setup all the way. I have mid plus 4 and treble +2.
Anything that isn’t Atmos can be balanced and have the 3 band EQ. You don’t really need more than that in this car. What’s your primary source listening format? I’ve noticed with almost every complaint I’ve read about the Lucid’s audio system they were listening in lower resolution streaming formats or Bluetooth which has significant limitations (partly the car’s fault since you can’t bypass it with CarPlay or direct USB).

Ok, I didn’t say anything about balance or equalization of a Dolby Atmos track. I said it sounds great. I’m criticizing the sound quality of non-Dolby Atmos. I’m glad you have an open mind and sorry for calling you a fanboy.

I'm sure one of the audiophiles will chime in here, but my understanding is that, because the Air is capable of Atmos quality then if you have crappy input it will enhance the crappiness because the speakers are excellent...I think @copper and @bunnylebowski mentioned something like this before

Yes, you really do need more. Tidal. EQ is not enough. Every luxury car I know has a separate processor and separate amps. I’ll say it again and you can tell me I’m wrong. There is no pre/pro and no separate amplifiers. Supporting Dolby Atmos is great. Not supporting the majority of music is not.

I’m not sure how the car could NOT have a separate processor, otherwise how is it doing the 3 band EQ? As far as separate amplifier goes, I don’t understand what your point is? Are you saying the Lucid sounds bad with non-Atmos content because you believe it doesn’t have a single dedicated amplifier handling all 21 speakers, and you think each speaker has its own amp? I’m just not clear on what you believe the problem is. If in fact the vehicle does have dedicated amps for each individual speaker (meaning they are active rather than passive), that is not a negative, as in professional audio, and specifically Dolby Atmos mixes, it’s often done that way with self powered speakers as the amplifier is tailored to be optimized to that set of drivers, etc. I honestly don’t know whether the car has active or passive speakers, I haven’t been able to find info on it. As for non-Tidal HiFi sources, as long as you’re not playing off Bluetooth which is limited, Spotify high quality sounds good, it’s just that Tidal HiFi (2 channel audio, not Atmos) sounds the best. Amazon music high quality sounds great also, just not quit Tidal MQA good.

I don’t doubt your experience, just trying to tease out what the actual problem is (possibly compression of the streaming format?), given the tuning of the system provides pretty accurate reproduction of mixes, but the EQ does allow for adjustment to preference in case you think the bass isn’t big enough or highs are too sibilant. I do think Lucid very much needs to get CarPlay into the car as I think many are playing over Bluetooth which DOES sound flat and lifeless and thin, and then people blame the car’s audio system which in fact has been shown to be seriously high quality in the testing @copper did.

Test results may show it's a high quality system, my ears say it's not that great. I have used Tidal through the car and through Alexa (slightly better than the car app). The volume is very limited at max, the bass is okay not punchy (listen to the drums from Hot for Teacher by VH, YYZ by Rush, Eleven by Primus and others. The db meter shows the system to clearly be under volume for all the hype this system has. My service tech also diagnosed the system since I have the random disappearing bass. He also did a db check and it did not go above 93db at full volume. He chuckled as well saying that a software update in the future hopefully will increase the volume.

I believe the disappearing base is a problem reported by some owners. You should have service look into it.

I did, that is why the service tech was out here and tested the system. Because this is a phantom or at this time a random issue, they don't have a fix. However, it does occur less often than before.

Let’s do something different to make sure we are talking about the same thing. Add Off The Wall by Michael Jackson to your Tidal play list, play it on your GT and take a photo of it and post it here. It’s neither Dolby Atmos or hi fi (I think). To my musically trained ear it is better than anything I’ve heard in any car, and that includes my Burmester in the Porsche I just sold.

This is a screen shot from Tidal on my Macbook, it's on one of my playlist. I've heard it. Again, the system sound is clear, accurate, etc. etc. The volume sucks, the bass sucks, the issues with sound completely disappearing or the bass disappearing are my issues. I don't really care that much for listen to music in surround (love surround when watching a movie).

I was referring to @Brad Carlson. It sounds like you have a problem with the disappearing base and volume. I don’t have that issue and my volume goes so high that it annoys my 21 year old son, that’s high! I don’t know how you can dismiss it as sucking if you haven’t even heard it as it’s intended.

Yes, two different outcomes from the same car model. Techs have come out twice on this issue and don't have a resolution to it. I am not the only that has this opinion on the sound system, so may be there is an issue in either the software or electronics. I would love to see a db readout of your system at full blast, that may show that folks like us that complain do in fact have an issue with our systems.

It sounds like you have a problem with the disappearing base and volume.

There is a very subtle deep bass signal that starts about halfway through Lyle Lovett's "The Road to Ensenada". When operating properly, the Lucid sound system produces a clean, deep rumble that vibrates the seats even with the equalizer bass set to "0" and the system running at moderate volume.

I, too, have intermittent problems with bass dropping completely out and volume falling off, as well as the sound stage collapsing into the front speakers. However, these issues always resolve upon rebooting the car, indicating they are (one of many) issues in the software, not in the audio system hardware itself. I have also had two episodes of ear-splitting white noise bursts emanating at about 15-second intervals from the right rear speaker, something which also resolves with a reboot.

Let's face it. The software in this car is still a mess. I just do not believe, however, that it extends to the hardware.

Maybe one of the audiophiles here can do that. Admittedly, this system is fundamentally different than systems that go to 11 and you can hear go boom boom from a block away. Personally, when listening to Tidal (and not necessarily on Dolby Atmos)it is the best system I’ve ever heard.

Definitely not looking at the boom boom bass from a block away. I am comparing this to my Audi S8 B&O and my Tesla Model X system. I do have a 1968 Olds 442 convertible that does have a very high-end system with JL amps and speakers. It can be heard from a block away with its two 15" subwoofers - however that is not what I am referring to when I say my Air GT sound is under volumed.

Maybe someone here can post something to demonstrate the system. I maintain that you are probably experiencing software issues based on what you described. I had that happen once and it resolved itself, so I think I know what you are hearing. At this point I won’t listen to Amazon streaming or Spotify because it also sounds thin, undynamic and under volumed. When the Tidal trial ends, I’m going to get a hi fi subscription.

I've seen a ton of recommended tracks to listen to throughout this thread an a couple others. Could someone (maybe @bunnylebowski, who mentioned most of them) collect them in one sticky thread so I can try them all out when I get my AGT?
