Yeah, I saw this. It’s still slightly frustrating that they haven’t disclosed anything about bidirectional charging equipment costs or requirements. Even the charger itself is just a piece of that equation.

I saw a prototype or mockup of the Lucid charging adapter at the Westfield Valley Fair sales office. It wasn't beautiful, a little brutish looking compared to our Chargepoint Home Flex and Tesla Gen 2 HPWC. Not getting the green horseshoe - is this Lucid's logo?

That has to be the tackiest way to show off a new product. It looks like someone has just filmed it in operation with the wonky camera. Do they not have a proper marketing team for product launches? Lucid isn't in a position to tease anything at this point, they need to actually show they're moving forward and actually announce stuff with dates, pricing etc.

J1772 doesn't provide a means for the charging adapter to read back the car's state of charge. But for some reason I did expect "Lucid"to light up. First world problems.

That would be one of those things where, it's a smart charger so it could communicate with the car for that function...definitely first world problem.

I’m about to pull the trigger on an ev charger bc I want a rebate from my local power co. Is there one that’ll sufficiently charge my pre-ordered Lucid and provide reverse power back to the house?

Or do I need to install a standard (30 or 40 amp) ev charger and then switch over to the Lucid one for reverse powering my home?

If looking for a non lucid home charger, I would go with either the ChargePoint or the wall box. There are several other good options though depending on personal needs and circumstances.

You will need Lucid’s charger for bi-directional charging. If you are buying one to hold you over, make sure to have the electrician put the wiring in necessary for the Lucid charger. It is an 80 amp charger requiring a 100 amp dedicated service. And when future details come out on transfer switches etc, you’ll need those.

Bi-directional charging should work with any compliant bi-directional charger (not just Lucid’s). I believe there are 2 other chargers on the market that support this feature and one of them is Ford’s.

Oh snap. I only have 100 amp into my home ... Trust me this limitation has been haunting me since day 1. Before I purchased my home, I asked if they would have 200 amp to the home. I was told yes (sadly not in writing). Nope... 100. I called the electrical company. By the time my house was finished and I moved in, everything was paved and done all around... so the cost to put in 200 is 'sub optimal'. Likely will be getting solar to augment the home... I guess I just have to be careful about what all I am running at once.

Book solar at the same time as the panel upgrade and ask the solar company to pay for 200amp upgrade, they almost always will reimburse since they’d need to do it if you got solar installed. This is how I got 200amp upgrade in my 1940s house. I’m still waiting for solar install but did submit invoice copy from my electrician and they said they’d reimburse. Mine was stupid expensive, $10,400 because they had to replace the whole panel and circuits and trench copper to the detached garage, install exterior shutoff switch for the fire department for new code, etc. The supply chain shortage stuff is driving electric upgrades costs sky high.

I am not sure if it will be software locked to only work with a certain manufacturers vehicle. But yes, Ford has their bi-directional charger as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if at the beginning, they lock it because they can only guarantee that their vehicles support it properly. I could be wrong!

I paid almost 4K just to run the 100A line and a subpanel in the garage. And no re-imbursement for me.

I can confidently say that Ford’s charger is not software locked and there hasn’t been any reports of this happening.
