It’s all about economics. When companies perceive a profit opportunity, things will get better. Give it time.

The devil is in the details. Always better to wait for the study to be peer reviewed.

Like the article even says. They have likely double counted the failure rate for EA chargers.

The $5 billion recently allocated toward filling in the CCS charging network should make a big difference in the number of locations available. I'm hoping there are also reliability measures that will make funding to a particular supplier dependent on meeting an uptime requirement.

My experience (and I don’t charge at home) is pretty much without problem. In fact I think the last time I have a charger (L2 or L3) that didn’t work - was LA on the way back from our Scottsdale trip - 1500miles ago

My experience with EVgo chargers using ChadeMo plugs for the Leaf is that 10-20% will have an issue at any given time.

That's about what I've seen in 4000 miles of road trips with our CCS EV.

Driving cross country I‘ve been pleasantly surprised to find most of the chargers I planned to use in working order. The exception has been the EA 350kW. Most locations had 2 350kW and it was rare for both to be functioning. Many times neither. There was always a working 150kW.

On multiple occasions I plugged into level 2 chargers and got only 4-6 kW. With 0.5 to 0.6 parasitic draw while charging, That can certainly leave you at a much lower state of charge over night than you might be planning on.

I found the “plug share“ app to be very helpful. Frequently there are check in and comments that are current. No pun intended.

PlugShare comments and the station scores are very good predictors of what you will find at the station.
