Just this morning while doing by shopping run, I had a F12 Berlinetta roll up next to me at the stop light. Guy was with his wife/GF and looked over at me and revved his engine. She just shook her head. I looked at him and our eyes met...Swift mode engaged (on purpose). Reaching 75 with him in my rear view, I let off the accelerator and waited for him to pull next to me. He just gave me a nod and sped on towards his destination. Maybe one of my townsfolk will be purchasing a Lucid sometime soon...we shall see.

How cool!

The reality of EV’s is that even the lowly Tesla Model 3 is faster than 95% of the cars on the road now.
Our Volvo XC40 SUV-EV is quicker 0-60 than my previous 400hp Maserati Gransport spyder. And a lot more comfortable.

Buried a Mustang GT at speed on I 95 as well as some youngster in a hopped up Subie when I was by myself going to Philly. They give the game away when you hear their transmission kick down a few gears and the turbos or supercharger spool up. There is nothing like instant torque a few milliseconds away if you need it. Unfortunately If wifey is in the car I get an earful if I go past 110. You married fellas probably can relate.

Cars like the Lucid Air DE, GT, Porsche Taycan and Tesla Mode S Plaid make ICE sportscars obsolete.
in a way but I have a 1997 Porsche 993 and nothing is going to replace that. High performance EVs are amazingly technically and a total no-brainer for day-to-day use, but at a point 4 second or lower 0-60 acceleration is just not very usable on public roads unless you’re way out in the sticks or out at 5:30am on a Sunday. Although there have been major suspension improvements that hide the weight of very heavy cars amazingly well they still can’t cancel out gravity and then implement feel from a much lighter sports car is something else.

Yes, my Dream Edition Performance is STUPID fast but I very much enjoy driving my C8 Corvette. They have very different driving experiences. I wouldn't want to drive the Vette for hours on Interstates but in track mode on curvy 2-lane roads, it's a blast! The Lucid is a great cruiser and the power shows when you pass someone in the blink of an eye when you are already going 75mph.

I have not been officially tested but, I have shot to the head of the line numerous times trying to get on a highway in Houston traffic and I am sure a lot of people thought "what the hell was that"! ;)

Just the imagery of your description made me smile!!

I rode in my friends manual M4 the other day. There is something to be said about the engine rumble and a manual transmission. Not just the noise, the vibration as well. And manually changing gears. Hard to get that same connection with an EV.

I think there will always be a place for ICE cars. Eventually it will mainly be enthusiasts I guess

Just like horses.

So folks with ICE in the future will buy gasoline at a feed store? 😊
I'm sure you know that the earliest internal combustion cars required fuel to be purchased at a pharmacy!

Yes, I do! Love studying the history of old iron. My oldest, now sold, was a 1899 Holsman Horseless Carriage with a 10 HP dry sump engine. Has a 55 pound flywheel. Primative electrical system for ignition. I broke two fingers in 7 places cranking it over.

On my test drive, I passed a Model S when I was accelerating on to the highway, just seeing what it had. I slowed down to 70 when I realized how fast I had gotten up to. I saw the Tesla in my rearview speeding up to catch us. I'm sure he was expecting to school us, but when I floored it as he caught up to us, he was clearly smoked, even with his "rolling start". I slowed way down and apologized to my test driver when I realized we were doing around 120mph. He said, "yeah, I saw that dude!" and just laughed! He did ask that I slow it down so he didn't get into trouble...

I guess they don’t have a speed limiter set on the test drive cars :)

Probably wasn’t a plaid or even a Raven performance but a garden variety model S. Which I might add is still no slouch.
