New Bugs Since 3.5.1

[…]
I have zero confidence in the software team's ability to release an update without serious new bugs.
Since I purchased my Gravity, every update has been great. The software quality for 3.5.1 is better than 3.4.1, which in turn was a big improvement over 3.3.20. Maybe it’s my imagination, but it seems to me the bug complaints on this forum have slowed down.

This isn’t to say each release hasn’t been without its problems. I’ve filed my share of bug reports on every release. However, there is no denying the software is improving. I’m looking forward to the next update!

Yes, software is certainly getting better, my main grief is with randomness and inconsistency of bugs. If something is consistently broken, I will find a workaround and live with it, then get excited when it gets fixed. But when it works perfectly for days and then suddenly goes berserk without any provocation, it drives me mad.

You are one of the lucky ones. We have two Gravity DEs, and both developed new issues after the 3.5.1 update. 3.5.1 did resolve a few of the issues the older Gravity had, but it brought some new issues to the mix. The newer Gravity was significantly less problem-plagued than the older Gravity before the update, but 3.5.1 dumped a bucket load of new issues into it, now making it the more unreliable car.

Among those new issues were increased key fob unreliability; failure of the car to lock consistently when left parked; passenger door handles extending upon approach but the driver door handle not -- and the reverse situation; the app showing the car being in reverse gear when it was parked; inability to change drive modes on the fly; entry/exit feature failing to bring the seat and steering wheel to programmed settings; the errant dashboard VIBE problem the older Gravity had showing up in the newer Gravity; Pilot Screen becoming partially frozen with all the manual controls on the toggle bar and the steering wheel becoming inoperable; screens in the car pulsing rapidly so that no information could be read from them . . . .

And, as @electric said, it's all random. Some of the issues also show up mid-drive when it's impossible to troubleshoot or reboot the car without getting off the road, something that it easier to do at some times than at others.

There is so much that the next update needs to fix before attempting to add any new features, and the track record isn't encouraging.

Mhh that sounds dramatic... DId you report all bugs etc?
1 x Air DE and 2x Gravity DE? Nice :D
you have many drivers at your home?

I have reported many of the problems to the software team email. I have had a Zoom call with a Lucid executive. A mobile tech has been dispatched by Lucid several times to confirm these problems, which he has done by both photos and videos.

We have two drivers in the household but have long kept three cars so that we both have transportation if one of the cars is out of service or being used by visiting friends and family. (I think one of the reasons my brother, a Tesla owner, now visits more often is to get to drive a Lucid without the software hassles of owning one.)

the software is definitely getting better. But it’s definitely frustrating that even the simplest things like remembering map preferences has not been implemented.

My Gravity is doing the same thing as yours, randomly, about 10% to 20% of the times the keyfob walking away is not registering and the car stay unlocked.
Here is the best part, after a couple of minutes I get mobile app notification "your car is still unlocked, tap here to lock it".
I find this behavior hilarious, the car and/or the app somehow figures out that things didn't go as expected, yet it wants my manual confirmation on how to proceed.
Somehow the car thinks that keyfob was left inside the car, even though it's not possible to communicate with it anymore.

I'm getting the same thing a lot, but it never occurred to me that it doesn't make a lot of sense that the car knows enough to know I've left and not locked the doors but can't lock them itself. That is pretty funny now that I think about it.

The software updates have been weird for me. I don't know that I'd say they're huge steps forward at the end of the day, at least not in my experience and for my preferences.

3.4.x was a solid one in that it resolved a lot of the key fob issues and warnings, which were VERY frequent and probably the most prominent annoyances of the vehicle. However:
  • The key fob issues have returned with 3.5.1, so whatever they did has been largely undone now. It's not quite as bad as it was before - usually the fob does work eventually to open the car, but very often not without standing there for 5-20 seconds while it decides to wake up. And it usually drives once I am inside, so "key fob not detected" is rarer than before. But the car doesn't lock itself after exit about 50% of the time now.... overall the fob performance is still very poor.
  • I'm not convinced that the warnings were resolved at the root so much as just turned off. I am still getting some of them - in fact my car is in service now for some of them coming back, but in an intermittent fashion that is hard to diagnose.
For me, the third most prominent annoyance of the car is the microphone for bluetooth calling. It seemed that this was better for a while, but ultimately I've concluded that it's still too unreliable to be used. People on the other end of many calls (maybe half or more) can't hear me unless I shout, and then I get frustrated and switch the call to speaker or ear buds. In fact, I usually carry airpods around now when I know I have an important call to take in the vehicle, which is a pretty annoying workaround.

The fourth most prominent annoyance is the erratic behavior of easy entry/exit, which is still a totally random experience.

I guess it's nice that they added CarPlay - I think that's a big visible upgrade that many people like, but honestly I'd prefer it if the onboard systems just worked more cleanly.

They also did some other weird things with some of the updates - such as changing the seat colors to make some of the seat functions work better.... that one is just odd.

So overall, CarPlay feels like a huge upgrade, but many of the common annoyances of the vehicle remain, or I wonder if they've really been fixed so much as skinned over.....

It's likely that I'm forgetting or glossing over early issues that are much better now and that I've memory-holed, so apologies if I have overemphasized the unresolved over the resolved....

We are experiencing these problems exactly as you describe them with both our Gravities since the 3.5.1 update.

We're also seeing new gremlins with the VIBE lighting in our older Gravity. It's been a while since we've had the issue with the errant 18" strip on the dashboard, but last night something new cropped up. When we got in the car the LED strips were glowing blue -- a color we have never selected. I reset the color to the "Joy" (orangish) setting we prefer. When we got home I noticed that the color had switched to white sometime during the drive, although I didn't notice when.

I remain perplexed as to why some owners are having certain issues and others aren't.

I get that feeling a lot. I'm at a point now with 3.5.1 where I don't really have anything major to complain about. There are things I'd like them to improve, but nothing that inteferes with us enjoying the car.

Same. We just don’t really have many issues, with my wife having the occasional fob issue.

I mean it doesn’t even have a lot of basic things. Or confusing versions of basic things. And then oddball features that work fine. 🤷

It’s gotta be some sort of hardware revision combination. There’s no way the same models just suddenly had problems all on their own. The Dream Editions seem to be very solid with few problems.

@hmp10 would like a word lol

Mine is a DE too...

For the past two days our newer Gravity has gotten increasingly erratic with locking/unlocking issues. But today took the cake.

I waited the usual 20-30 seconds for the car finally to recognize the key fob and unlock the doors. I got into the car and the "key fob not recognized" message came up, as it does about half the time. But this time I couldn't put the car into gear, something I usually can do even with that message. So I took out the key card and placed it on the phone charger pad, but the car wouldn't read it. So I rebooted the car. I still got the key fob not recognized message, and the car still wouldn't go into gear. So I got out of the car, went back into the house for it to reset, and then got back in.

The car had never locked (another recurrent misbehavior), so I opened the door and got back in. The car still wouldn't go into gear. I then decided to take one of the other cars and got out of the Gravity . . . or, rather, I tried to. The door latch would not release electrically, so I had to exert the extra force to open it manually. As soon as the door opened and I stepped out, the theft alarm went off. I got back into the car, and the alarm quieted. So I tried again to put the car into gear. But the car had switched to a Guest profile, and I had to enter the PIN. This time, the car went into gear. I switched to my profile and finally got underway.

This was close to a 10-minute exercise.

If the next update doesn't resolve these locking/unlockng and start up issues, I'm going to consider starting the lemon law process. Rainy season is coming around in Florida, and I can't live with a car fighting me this way.

most of the time I've started it today, it tells me that its restored stability control, but never anything about removing it so I assume that's just a bug.

The car "trapped" me inside twice so far. After getting in it would just randomly lock and turn off all screens. First time I opened the door with manual door latch release which ended with car alarm going off. When it happened 2nd time I spammed unlock button on the key fob and once it finally unlocked everything was fine. Reported this issue to SWFeedback back in February.

That could be physical too; I can see the crookedness of the rear hatch on this Gravity, and there’s big gouges in the striker plate because it’s not really adjusted right. 🤷
