Gravity Bugs / Issues

I don't want to revive Fisker topic, which I'm sure was beaten to death here in the past, but as a life long technologist closely watching and participating in EV industry since 2007, it was clearly obvious to me that Fisker was doomed from the start as an engineering project and a business for too many reasons to list here, so MKBHD review did not cause it to fail, at best it saved many poor souls from being sucked into that disaster. Lucid, as an engineering project and a business is on a totally different level than Fisker, and while it might still fail, at least it has a decent chance of success, where Fisker was doomed from day one.
Couldn’t agree more. I have the receipts of me saying the same heh

Very fair point about other reviewers and specialty magazines. There’s just so much more out there today and it also creates more noise because any “expert” can do a video. To your point about MKBHD - he is not in any way a car expert but he has reviewed Fisker, Gravity, etc and he does have a massive following. He seems to be good at tech reviews for the masses. I don’t really know. His opinions clearly influence folks. As do CR’s. I admit, I was perhaps too focused on how CR does/doesn’t influence me and the folks with whom I speak.

I think it’s just harder for folks who aren’t enthusiasts to filter the noise and both good, and bad, get amplified. I guess it’s just me feeling old and the social media effect, etc.
I agree that these "classic" review publications like Edmunds & CR were the "standard" and highly regarded but that the plethora of video reviews online now dilutes their modern day influence a bit. Both seemed to be riding on their laurels and getting by with name recognition more than their awesome current content.

And for FWIW here's another "Old guy" perspective: It seems harder for the masses to "filter the noise" about anything these days and discern fact from opinion. The barrage of misinformation and agenda driven "info" out there on social mediais a form of oppression. But then, peasants are just like mushrooms....kept in the dark and fed Bullsh*t!!

Consumer Reports is right up there with Edmunds for me as it relates to uselessness of EV reviews. They have an agenda and aren’t objective.

I know there ARE clearly issues with the Gravity, so not defending Lucid, but CR is pretty useless in the internet age.
I actually think that CR is objective, but you do have to understand where they're coming from. They look at cars as appliances, and judge them on that basis. They're not going to appreciate the driving dynamics, and they'll consider every little glitch to be a ding against the vehicle's reliability. In that regard, they treat all cars pretty much the same. I do appreciate that they're one of the few review organizations that has no biasing relationship of any kind with the manufacturers. That said, their perspective on cars doesn't match mine, so I don't pay them much attention. But it 100% matches my wife's perspective, so she'd use them when researching, if she even cared enough about cars to do any research.

I stopped listening at “you can’t even adjust the seats.”

Yes, you can; it’s right there on the side of the seat. Whether it displays on the screen or not doesn’t mean you can’t adjust the seats in the same way every other car does.

Yes, it’s a computer on wheels. Sometimes it needs a reboot.

Welcome to EVs today, and many ICE cars as well.

(The fob thing is fixed, so while that’s fair, it’s now outdated)
I'm not sure he was saying that there's no physical seat adjustment buttons. I interpreted him to mean that the car was dead enough that the physical seat buttons aren't working. But your interpretation could be right.

My understanding is they also rely heavily on those who have subscribed filling in consumer surveys for reliability and Lucid simply doesn’t have a big enough pool of vehicles on the market for the data to be that reliable in my opinion. 20,000 owners, 100 subscribers etc. the data can be seriously flawed.

It’s a no brainer the Gravity isn’t going to do well in this review. It’s got very little user base and CR doesn’t really care about the driving dynamics. Not sure why Lucid gave them one tbh.

In the past, CR has said that they buy their test cars.
Either way then, Lucid is screwed 😂

I’m not expecting a good review from them and honestly surprised they’re doing it on a low volume car that’s not even 6 months into deliveries.

Agree.

What I don't understand is how Fisker got the backing to launch another vehicle after that hodgepodge mess that was the (nevertheless very cool-looking) Karma.

You can still buy the Karma, the tooling was acquired in 2014 by Wanxiang, who formed Karma Automotive. It's now called the Revero. I ran across a test vehicle in Palm Springs last year.
Karma Revero.webp

Fortunately for Lucid, most of CR content is locked behind a paywall or subscription. So these reviews will not be heavily disseminated. Just don’t expect Lucid to be advertising that they received an A reliability rating from Consumer Reports (at least not in the near future).

Oh no is that the Cabazon outlets? What a god awful charging experience I had there in a Polestar 2.

It was actually EA Palm Desert. It worked fine for me, albeit with the usual four stations, one broken and two already in use.

Ah ok looks just like the Cabazon one, also had two broken and one with a Jaguar charged to 100% and the other with a Bolt charged to 100% and no owners in sight. 🤦‍♂️. I ended up making it to cathedral city with like 4%, luckily those chargers were great.

A company here in NY bought the 9k unsold Oceans and they lease them to livery drivers. I've been in many Ocean Ubers

Realistically, it won't be just the near future, it'll be never. Lucid hasn't demonstrated the ability to get all the little niggles ironed out of the Air even after a few model years of experience producing them. And all indications are that they've done no better with the Gravity. CR tends to lump all issues together when deciding reliability is a problem, and Lucid appears to have an engineering culture that focuses on technical innovation much more than "it just works". Maybe Lucid's 3rd vehicle will be different.

Sorry, 2,800 Oceans, not 9k

It has to be or they’re in for a world of pain or failure. They simply don’t have enough Service Centers or staff to deal with the niggling issues that Air and Gravity have faced.

Consumer Reports posted a video short yesterday as a preview to their full review of the Gravity.

Things did not get off to a rollicking start:

Should there be a neo luddite test for users?
Next he will say he likes motor noise, wants a fake shifter, wishes it smelled more of gasoline… you know… an anti ev person… they ask range you say it does 437 they claim to need 600… never enough. Such boring folks.

Fisker is proof that a single person is not enough to make a successful auto co… the financial backers matter… gotta have deep pockets to build it…
