Gravity Delivery Discussion

Yaay! I just got this invite in the email about the Grand opening of the Lucid San Jose Studio and Service Center! Exciting!!
Anyone else coming to this event?

I just might pop over the hill to check that out!..was hoping it'd be open and up and running smoothly for a while there before I take delivery of my GGT; who wants to go all the way up to Milbrae?

you will be SOOOOO glad you got the handling pkg; the rear wheel steering it comes with makes it a totally different car to park, maneuver in tight spaces, and whip u-turns with. It's like it's a smaller car somehow.. & More fun to drive period.

Well, I’m very happy that the one I’m getting now has Dynamic Handling.

Curious though, has anyone here actually driven the Gravity without Dynamic Handling to compare?

Technically, I haven’t. But I had an issue that caused my air suspension to be stuck and rear wheel steering
to not work (it thought a door was open…long story I’ve talked about before).

Anyway, the ride was noticeably less refined and I could tell a noticeable difference when making turns and switching lanes. Car just felt bigger and less agile.

Dynamic Handling Package is a game changer. The rear wheel steering is actually pretty subtle but it obviously changes the turning radius of the car and stability at speed. My first experience with rear wheel steering was in a Honda Prelude in the early 1990s. That car has so much rear steering angle is felt like it was drifting even when you were just turning into a parking spot. But the tuning on the Gravity is pretty amazing. If anything, I wish they’d allow for a bit more steering angle at the rear.

We have rear wheel steering in one of our cars and once I experienced it, I'd never want to drive one without.
But on the other hand, the majority of cars out there aren't so equipped and people still enjoy driving them.
This is why I suggested rear wheel steering package when someone a while back asked what to skip for for budgetary reason.

So the pause is real?

Love the timing. Whatever it is, it’s very important - but not as important as selling cars by end of quarter…

I kid…kind of…
They would not deliver a car with a known safety defect, ever. If they knew about it, they didn't deliver it, which is what sounds like happened to @Alex who was right on the cusp.

I was told by my SA that it was all the cars at the Scottsdale service center that were put on hold to check for safety issues – not just my car. Maybe some of them have been released by now, but mine has not yet.

Yeah, that's my point; they didn't just deliver them by the end of the quarter. They discovered a safety issue, and it was more important to check for it than make the end-of-quarter numbers. I both respect that and expect it.

Yes, saves me an extra extra trip to the service center, which is 120 miles away. Unless they could do this with a mobile visit, which doesn't sound like it’s suitable for this problem.

I just got notification mine is going into production ( supernova bronze, Oja, tech package etc) but no vin yet. Any one know how long between notification to assignment of vin to finish of build rough estimate?

In your Lucid Dashboard if it reflects "In Production" your VIN would be under Owner’s manual & Software Updates
From In Production to Preparing for Delivery it can be as short as 7 days or up to 8 weeks

I asked my SA about the cash price discount of $7500 reflected in the Lucid designer and he told me it was only for leased vehicles, and only if ordered before Sept. 30. I was hoping my cash deal was going to get $7500 cheaper!
Right? We are past Sept 30 why is the discount reflected on Lucid website for someone interested in designing their Gravity now?

When our and @Ron_Burgundy's cars were in for service our work invoices came back with a notation that the driver-side "push panel" had been corrected due to the possibility of its coming loose and interfering with the brake pedal. Neither of us were aware of the issue beforehand. I wonder if this pause had anything to do with that.

In a "Carmudgeon" podcast a few months ago, auto journalist and stunt driver Jason Cammisa talked about the Gravity's rear-wheel steering system. It only deflects up to 2.7º, which sounds paltry compared to the 4º (and optional 10º) deflection on cars such as the MB EQS. However, Cammisa said it was the most sophisticated and effective system in the industry, rivaled only by Porsche's new-generation system (which also doesn't deflect that much). In Cammisa's view, the MB and similar systems that wow people who see the rear wheels turn sharply when parking are, in fact, more party tricks than real driving aids.

Unlike most rear-wheel steering systems which use a rear steering rack locking the two wheels to the same angle, the Gravity has independent actuators on each wheel, allowing for separate adjustment. Lucid has said that they are making use of that utility right now in only very limited circumstances but that future OTA updates might bring even more refinement to the system.

And, by the way, the Dynamic Handling Package also brings the 3-chamber air suspension system instead of the base 1-chamber system. In single-chamber systems, suspension stiffness inevitably changes as a function of ride height due to the differing behavior of air compressed to different pressures. A 3-chamber system allows stiffness to be adjusted independently of ride height, thus allowing you to retain the desired compliance when adjusting ride height for other reasons.

To me, the $2900 premium for the Dynamic Handling Package is the best bang for the buck on the whole options list.

Our second favorite site to make fun of, Motor Intelligence, is claiming that Lucid only sold 170 Gravity in September (after reporting, IIRC, zero for August). Even the most rudimentary QA on their numbers would show that these are absurd. I'm not sure how any of their data could be trusted.
