Too Frustrating

Well, they really kinda are in the context of products as complex as cars.
Wait, wait, wait, I thought the whole GTM around this was they were LESS complex because they had 60% less parts that required less maintenance?!

For what it's worth my Model S ran itself into the side of my garage once when using summon to park it. This was certainly largely on me for letting it do that. It had parked successfully several times and I just couldn't believe it wasn't going to recover.

There's a lot more to a modern car than just the drivetrain.

How many years into production does it take before we stop using the "they are a new company" line?
Short of these EV makers, there's hasn't been a true new autmaker for decades. All the others out there, either been around for near a hundred years or spun off from one of them and still had the backing and resources of them. Most still consider Tesla a new company and it will likely take a few decades before these companies are not considered "new". Producing cars for less than 5 years like Lucid has done most certainly keeps it in the new category. They build 2 models. One for 3 years or so and the other for less than a year now. Gonna be a good long while before they are not "new".

I think you mean the engine all cars have drivetrains.

Has a long time Tesla owner (8 years, M3 and late MS) I can relate to SXM. For instance MY and M3 do not have XM at all. Only the X and S do, and they use the satellite ant. Also Tesla does use AT&T for cellular, at ~$10 a month for high speed. I' in the queue for a Gravity so I find these forums enlighting.

Who cares! It’s been that way since day 1 so if it’s such a big issue for people then don’t buy the car.
I care, good example is the underpowered computer in the Air prior to 2025. Lucid says software driven, but the compromised in keys, chip, satellite….

How is it that we live in a world where the OP buys a $100k car that they clearly did exactly zero research about and then joins this forum and makes their first post complaining about features that 10 minutes of research here would have clearly steered them in a different direction or prepared them by setting appropriate expectations?

If you can find this forum to complain, you sure could have found it to do some research and take personal responsibility when spending a pretty tidy sum on a new vehicle.

We really need to think about this…are these kinds of posts a reflection on Lucid or our society’s newfound willingness to completely shun any kind of personal responsibility?
Well, I never knew Lucid didn’t have satellite, thought they never compromised.

This wasn't a response to the OP it was a response to someone who continually posts negative comments and seems to think they could do a better job at running Lucid. We've known for years that the car doesn't come with a satellite antenna and has been covered in here in many threads but yet they continue to try and beat a dead horse. At some point you need to wonder if they're just in here to rile people up.
I can post positives and negatives. Let me do that for every negative post. Shows you I am very fair in my assessment.

Best drivers sedan ever made! Makes me smile even after almost 3 years. Best combination of looks, performance, luxury, space efficiency and handling.Absolutely no regrets in buying this car.

But keys suck, no satellite radio and they introduced car with an underperforming computer that was upgraded in 2025.

It’s good to be honest in negative comments about the car, that’s the only way Lucid executives can improve on future iterations and future models. They have done a fantastic job, mostly- but keys suck, no satellite radio.

It's the dumb summon feature, you can use it to move the car into and out of the garage
But it is the only auto parking feature I care about. I can park my own car but every now and then some ahole will park so close to me that I can't get into my car (especially now that I have a non functional right knee -- I am scheduled for a replacement knee in late September). So the dumb summon feature is a useful one to have. I used to drive head first into my home garage; now I back in. The 360 cameras make that so easy. But, like @Bunnylegowski, I wouldn't trust any car to drive into a narrow garage space.

I guess it appears you post more negative because you repeat the same issues 100 times over so it's hardly fair at all. The computer was fine at the time Lucid designed the car and is the same process that all other automakers follow. Tell me though, how many automakers actually let you upgrade the computer vs telling you "If you want a faster computer, updated software then you need to buy the new model"? The answer is next to none so we can see how once again you turned something Lucid is doing as a positive into a negative.

Agreed.

The auto park on Air works great. Just used it during Monterey Car Week in Carmel and it totally saved my butt parallel parking on a narrow completely packed road.

You are impossible to please. Go buy another car for static and compression hell on SXM. Tesla ended SXM via sat, and many other manufacturers as well.

Cellular networks across the country (and I’ve just been on a cross country trip) have become very reliable even in rural communities. It’s a non issue.

Don’t get me started on the key, let’s just say they’ve always worked on my Air. Gravity sounds like it’ll be much the same after a few updates. Give Lucid some time, they have been and continue to be studiously working towards solutions.

Ladies and gentlemen I rest my case. Lol.

I think you mean the engine all cars have drivetrains.

What I meant was powertrain, which includes the engine or motor, the transmission, and the drive shaft(s). The single- or dual-gear transmissions of EVs are much simpler than the multi-gear setups in most ICE vehicles and should be included in a comparison of complexity.

It's sort of ironic that you mention the upgraded computer. Is that supposed to be a negative? In 2015 I bought my first Tesla Model S. In 2017 they came out with an upgraded CPU that I then had to pay for if I wanted the new features that it supported. Has there ever been a computer produced that 2 years later wasn't considered underperforming? I believe that's called progress.

Our 2021 Volvo, that we bought at the same time as our Air, also has an underperforming CPU. At times it makes the infotainment literally unusable. I'd be thrilled if Volvo offered a chance to upgrade it to the 2025 version as Lucid did, but they haven't stepped up.
