Gravity Bugs / Issues

I think nearly everything about the Gravity in terms of design and engineering is brilliant. But the even small possibility that the thing that gets you access into the car (fob/keycard/phone, whatever) doesn’t allow you to drive the car is incomprehensible to me. I don’t understand how you can unlock the door with a fob, or with a keycard, but then not put the car into drive, as the car already accepted your means of entry. It’s like there’s a two step verification when it should be a single step. Of course most owners are driving their Gravity around just fine so this not the norm, but every time I see another post about it happening the fact that it’s even something that could possibly go wrong is confusing to me.
Obviously, Lucid is advancing the motoring industry by putting 2FA into cars as well...

Even in previous Aud's I've owned, it won't just take the unlock as enough to get the car moving. It needs to detect the key within the car to actually start it. If the batteries were flat you needed to tap it on the steering column I believe to get the car into drive.

Yeah if the battery is low I get that. But it could still be put into drive, whereas this Gravity issue some cars can’t, randomly it seems. Again it seems to be the exception and I’m certain Lucid is fixing it, it just seems to beyond a dead fob battery since the keycard doesn’t have a battery and some owners are having this failure (rarely and randomly) with two different modes of entry, one of which doesn’t use a battery and is supposed to be used as a backup.

Old school:
* Access car: open the unlocked door. Use manual key to unlock door if needed
* Start car: use manual key to start car

Early Fob/keyless entry:
* Access car: keyless entry. Often requires button press or touching door handle.
* Start car: use physical key

Modern fob:
* Fob enables unlocking door. Might have manual key backup (Mach-E Fob has the hidden key in the fob, but it's a blank since the car has no physical key locks)
* Fob must be detected inside car

Apps:
Before PAAK (e.g. Tesla before Model 3):
* Access: App tells server to unlock car. Out of luck if car out of cell range. This can be done remotely.
* Start: app might be able to tell car to drive (and can be done remotely). PIN inside car may be required to confirm.

After PAAK:
* Access: phone enables unlock via Bluetooth (either passive or when interacting with door). Can also use server to unlock remotely.
* Start: car needs to detect when phone is in car.

The thing all of these have in common is different actions and/or conditions are needed for start vs access.

It could be something as simple as bad wiring to a controller/antenna that is used both for detecting the fob inside the car and for NFC reading of the card key.

Welp, received my car back from the SC and my keyfob isn't working again after update to 3.2.2. Requested for them to push the software update again to see if that might resolve this issue like it did previously. Really hate pulling out my keycard every time I get in to drive. fingers crossed

I posted earlier that our car will not hold a programmed setting for the outside rearview mirror and will not accept a "Save" when it's adjusted. (Both the "Save" and "Restore" buttons are grayed out no matter which menu I am in when adjusting the mirrors.)

Today I might have found why. Based on another poster's report that his key fob issues did not change whether he had auto lock engaged or not, I went into the menu to turn auto lock on to see what would happen. While there, I noticed that the function to restore mirror and other settings was grayed out and would not activate.

So yet another software bug . . . ? Is anyone else seeing this?

Incidentally, I had just done a UI soft reboot (X/Mic/Brake) before this exercise, because when I got in the car the left side of the glass cockpit was grayed out, and the Pilot Screen menu was frozen on the default setting and would not open any other menus.

Those with Gravities, how are the blind spot and rear view cameras? I had two people tell me when they test drove, video quality was bad, and this was when the sun was shining brightly.

You wouldn't confuse the images with an 8K movie, but they are fine for the purpose. However, the rear view image at night is a little dimmer than in our Air, which may be more a function of the rear backup lights than the camera or display.

The blind spot images are both clear and fast enough in our car, although some software glitches have created intermittent bizarre behavior such as displaying a frozen frame from a right-side video in our left-side display when the left turn signal is activated.

On a related topic about outward visibility, I have found the supposed issues with the thick A-pillars that several reviewers have noted to be kind of a nothing burger -- perhaps because we are used to our beefy Air A-pillars.

Were you logged into your profile or guest profile when you were locked out of the restore driver adjustment screen?

That’s good to know, the blind spot camera images in my Gravity test drive were way worse quality than my air and looked like old Tesla model 3 qualify, but I attributed that to software that would fix it, so they must have fixed it.

I have the key-fob issue too but also knew that 3.2.2 wasn't written to address that issue specifically. On the bright side Creature Comfort now works when launched from inside the vehicle as well as the app.

To be honest, I don't put a lot of demand on image quality for a blindspot display as long as it lets me know whether the space is clear of obstacles or not. So it might not be up to more demanding standards.

Here's a shot from our right-side display that was weirdly showing as a freeze frame image on our left-side display for a while. It's not great quality perhaps but, to me, sufficient for the purpose:

I think your profile is hosed. I’m guessing you’ve already deleted it and made a new one and re-synchronized fob/keycard after logging in to Lucid account?

No, I haven't. I'll try that, but I'm kind of getting exhausted from trying to chase so many issues to ground.

Haha yeah what have you got to lose? Maybe erasing your profile and making a new one will at least have a nice placebo effect if one of your issues goes away after doing it.

The blind spot camera, while resolution is low compared to others I've seen, is totally fine for what it needs to be for me. A very quick glance tells me all I need from it. Backup is much better than my Taycan?which isn't saying much as it was not good) and better than my wife's EV9. It's all relative.

Remind me never to go to any apocalyptic-sounding events with you

I'm really frustrated with Lucid at this point. I contacted customer care once more today about the ongoing issues with this vehicle, and again they said that they will escalate the issue and someone will call me back within 24 hours. The ticket has been open since 8/1 and I've called multiple times since then and have received the same response each time. It's been 20 days now, and I feel like I've been more than reasonable; is there any reason I shouldn't get an attorney at this point and start a lemon law case?
