Gravity Bugs / Issues

Who knows, maybe they brushed it off because they’re sick of everyone bringing it up to them every 5 mins when an email went out acknowledging the issue and timeframe it would be resolved in.

FWIW - 2 months in and my key has worked with very minimal issues. Probably needed to use the card 2 or 3 times. For some though, even that seems to be unacceptable.
I view the key card as being an emergency key such as the mini key that is embedded inside most keyless fobs for past 20+ years. It is there only if the main key, either the fob or the eventual phone as key, acts up and doesn’t work. In the 20+ years of my using keyless fobs, I have had to resort to the emergency key maybe 2 or 3 times, which was usually due to dead fob battery.
So, having to use the key card once a month on average might be OK for now in light of the dumpster fire that is the current fob situation, the long term goal should be that the fob and eventual phone as key work well enough that you very rarely need to dig it out of your wallet except maybe to use it as a valet key.

I texted the service manager who is going to replace our HUD next week and try to get to the bottom of our frozen nav system to ask him to add the key fob issue we're having to the work order. He agreed to but said this was the first he'd heard of any key fob issues with the Gravity. I asked whether he had heard anything about a new front console being developed to deal with key fob antenna wiring issues in the current one, but he said he had heard nothing about that, either.
I'm not sure that they are developing/have developed a new front console for key issues. I've had both consoles in my car and both have worked fine for starting the car minus 2 random instances which I attribute to software glitches as it worked normally a few min later (and the 10min of time after the new one was installed and it was discovered that it needed to be reprogrammed to the car for the key to work). I'm still baffled by your key issues.

I took this photo tonight while at practice. If you zoom in you can see my Gravity I'm the distance of maybe 150-200 feet. My fob was turning the car on from this distance until I moved it over to my left pocket instead.

And people slagged on the Gravity for looking “like a minivan”. Pffft!!! No disrespect to minivans or minivan drivers (I was one for years), but people who make such comments have no idea about automotive design. Your Gravity looks nothing like the frumpy Toyota Sienna parked in front of it. The Gravity is a beautiful driving machine, and not a mere appliance.

I'm really surprised they haven't replaced the telematics unit yet, which is the computer that has all the antennas (comms, GPS, etc). It's the exact same module as in the Air, so it's surely not in short supply, and it's easily replaced. Maybe they have better diagnostics (but haven't fixed it?) but that's where my mind goes when I hear "GPS doesn't work".

Interesting that you posted this, as I was about to post something about key fob range.

As already mentioned, several days ago we became unable to get our Gravity into gear without rubbing the key card over the phone charger pad even though the fob was still opening the doors and turning the car on. Then last night over the course of getting into and out of the car during the evening we noticed the range of the fob was quickly dropping. On our last return to the car, we had to stand right at the door for the fob to open the car.

I assumed this meant the fob battery was dying (even though we've only had the car for seven weeks). I also wondered whether this could have something to do with the fob's not enabling gear engagements, although I couldn't see how that would be the case.

So I ordered a 6-pack of 2450 batteries from Amazon when we got home, figuring I'd try battery replacement when they arrive tomorrow.

As a Gravity DE owner I agree with you. However my first impression of the vehicle was "minivan". The roofline is too low but there's something about the ratio of length to height and the shape that say's "minivan". Sorry but it was my wife's first impression as well having never seen the car. TBH - It has the cargo capacity of a minivan!

I see the photo as a classic Past, Present, Future. The classic black Chevelle on the right as the past, the SUV’s to the left as the present and the Gravity as the future. I would also put the Siena as past. Look at what Kia has done to current Carnival that looks like an SUV from the outside but retains it’s minivan functionality.

May be a bug, maybe not…how does dynamic range reset? Mine hadn’t reset at all since delivery a week ago. Then, I charged it to 80% last night (which I’ve done several times) and got in this morning to find dynamic range was 310, so was rated range and the energy usage was 3.30…

I’d prefer if I could choose when to reset it, but can’t find that option or how it’s supposed to work…

The whole point of the dynamic range is that it's a moving target based off your efficiency from the last X number of miles. At least, I believe that's what the description says in the User Manual.

You’re not supposed to reset. It’s a moving target based on your driving.

Right, and that’s why I thought I’d be able to choose when to manually reset it versus waking up this morning to find out it reset itself…

It’s not a moving target if it resets itself…

You sure it “reset” and just wasn’t reporting a number based on the last few miles of driving? Mine has been very consistent.

Definitely. I went to bed and it was around 2.8 - I’ve been watching it as a “test” acceleration, etc, which I did a lot of yesterday. Then, this morning, after not driving all night, it was 3.30 and dynamic was equal to rated.

No. I will definitely try that.....I went to that screen but missed that button somehow.

Thank you, I'll let you know if it works.
Did this fix the driver's sideview mirror for you? I'm seeing this issue now too. Seems to happen first thing in the morning once car parked for a while. Have tried resetting the car, walking away, unfolding via button from the pilot panel, etc but driver's side mirror stays folded. Ultimately I have to push it with my hands a tiny bit and then unfolding via Pilot Panel works.

Lucid Service wants to take the car in for both this and frunk (needs two button presses to open) issue.

@DrZorro - in an earlier long post you had mentioned something which seemed like it may be the closest anyone has gotten to figuring out what could be the keyfob/card issue (although it may not necessarily point to a solution). I am referring to this text in your post:
And now for the fun part! I went to drive my car back into the garage and now the key fob will no longer start the car (doors open fine, but no key detected for putting the car into gear). This problem did not exist prior to the repairs (except on 2 separate 1-off instances over past 7 weeks which I've written about before---and that problem seemed to self correct fairly quickly). I told the service guys to do the "customer service reset" that I've seen talked about by other members--This was tried and failed to fix the problem. It was only then that I inquired if there's any way that the center console swap could have caused this gremlin to appear. It turns out (after a brief call by my service guy to someone at Lucid) that the new console actually does have a key antenna in it--and unlike the antenna in the Air console, this one isn't a "dummy antenna" and actually requires the car's software to be updated/synced to the new antenna inside--apparently this new console revision is made by a different manufacturer than the first one as well. So, after about 20min of phone calls/software updates, my key is working normally again. The techs were unfortunately caught off guard by this as nowhere in their manual or training were they told about this additional step.
...
****On a side note about the key issues that some are having. It now seems clear that there are multiple antennas involved in the car with one being in the B pillar (for unlocking) and a second in the console (for starting the car). I have to wonder if anyone having the issue with just they key not starting the car may need the specific software resync that they did on my car which seemed to fix the issue. I also talked with the techs and reflected on the two times where my key failed to start the car previously and recalled they had one thing in common: It happened after charging the car AND using the a physical button on the remote to unlock the car (to be able to unplug the charger)...which is not in my normal pattern of walking up to the driver's side door and pushing in the handle without using the key fob button. I'm not sure if using the button on the fob rather than just having it in my pocket somehow got things out of sync? Anyone else noticed this pattern?****

@hmp10 - perhaps you can ask your SA about this? or perhaps you can contact the same Lucid tech people who DrZorro connected with? Maybe they can check or try some troubleshooting along the lines of what DrZorro experienced? Is there some sync/config activity that needs to be re-done for your car?

Just thinking out loud... sorry if you already tried this or if this is not relevant...

We've had no work or replacement done on our console. However, the problem is continuing since it began last week,, and I'm willing to try anything. I'll text my mobile tech to see if he knows anything about this customer service reset.

If there is any way you can ask for NEW key fobs and NEW key cards (to replace your current ones - not add one more to them) and a NEW center console swap, then perhaps the process of installing and setting these up could trigger the right sync/config activities which in turn could result in an improved keyfob/card performance.

If wishes were horses....

The car is being transported over to the Miami Service Center next week to deal with the frozen navigation system, to have the HUD unit replaced, and to sort out the second-row seat noises. (Our satellite maps and navigation system have been frozen alternately on Lucid HQ, the Casa Grande factory, or the coast of Africa since we took delivery on June 30. Lucid also cannot pick up the location of the car from their end, indicating the car is not transmitting its location via GPS. Nor are any GPS-related features working, such as Homelink geofencing, time zone setting, etc.) I asked yesterday to have this key fob issue added to the work order so that they will know to check if there is an issue with wiring or hardware in the console besides just the software gremlins that are plaguing so many key fobs.

Wish you all the best! Hope your frustrations will be mitigated to the level of minor annoyances that most others seem to share...
