Gravity Delivery Discussion

I think they will build the Gravity X. If you can charge it anywhere and incredibly fast some loss of range will not matter much
THe market like the rigged off road LOOK tho no one really uses these cars that way much
The market for “mom mobiles” is much deeper and that’s what the R1S has really become and it’s what many folks will use Gravity for - no doubt. A company with limited resources doesn’t need a Gravity variant. They need to ramp Gravity and get to affordable models faster.

Totally agree. Lucid = luxury, not off-road. Not sure what they're thinking with this X idea.

I guess if it just adds an accessory or two onto the existing Gravity model, then it's not wasting hardly any precious resources on it. Hopefully that's all it is. But still, it just seems like a misfit that's gonna muddle the company image.

I wonder if this gives a little insight into what the smaller mass market vehicle will be? Gonna have to lose a lot of luxury to get down to $50k. Maybe they don't want to be known as a pure luxury brand to lower expectations for that one?

But for stuff that has to go into the service center to fix, on a brand new 100k plus car is a little ridiculous.
Especially when there's so few service centers.

I've always owned legacy vehicles (mostly Fords), where the dealership is 10 minutes away. The only Lucid service center in my state is an hour from me, and I'm probably lucky to have one that close. I've never experienced mobile service before, but I'm guessing that will be pretty limited on the issues it can handle.

All part of the risks of buying a car from a fledgling EV automaker, I suppose. I knew this going in and am willing to take the risk (I'm more concerned about them even being in business in 3 years), but it's still a little scary. But I wouldn't being doing this if I couldn't afford to take the loss if it doesn't pan out.

there were considerable engineering hours applied to widening the car's track, increasing its ride height,
They probably just set the ride height setting higher and put lower offset wheels on it.

I agree with your take on Lucid as a company. It seems like the hardware engineers, Rawlinson included, were focused on the fun innovative stuff at the expense of ignoring the manufacturing side. The marketing team is free to waste money completely detached from the rest of the company. And the software team...

Okay this isn't Delivery Discussion related, but I don't think they put in "considerable" engineering hours here. At the 0:38 mark of this video, Marc mentions Derek Jenkins came to him with the idea for the GX about three months ago.

Regardless, as others have said, I think this is a good move on Lucid's part. It's about marketing and it helps raise brand awareness. In parallel to building brand awareness, they need to work on software and manufacturing prowess. Very similar to Tesla circa 2012-13.

Hard to tell. At one point I got an email from Lucid congratulating me on my Gravity order and telling me to call my Sales Advisor with any questions. However, the name of the SA given in the email was not the same SA I had been assigned the day I ordered the Gravity and who had called me the same day. I thought maybe he had left the company, but when I called him to check he said he was still my SA and that I should continue to deal with him.
I just noticed this for the first time today too. Our SA suggests ours will go into production in 2 weeks. I know he is an optimistic SA, so we will see!

I have to admit I find the Concept X kind of cool to look at. Reminds me of the Audi All-Road raised estate wagon back in the day which I always liked.

But as a Gravity owner who waited several years for the Gravity to arrive and then finally received a car that has already had two mobile service visits, is now scheduled into a Service Center for an indeterminate length of time, is seeing blind-spot displays malfunction as well as myriad other software hiccoughs, I just wonder about the wisdom of trying to draw more attention to the Gravity with variants when the core model is not ready for volume production and current order holders are experiencing new rounds of delays.

Yeah, I totally understand. I went through a lot of growing pains with my first Model S in 2012. Our only hope is Lucid has the talent and leadership to pull it off long term. We've seen it can be done... I know that doesn't make it better today, but hopefully they will make things right for you and us future owners.
